Well, maybe they were considered possibly subversive because their mass appeal? Maybe they just started a file on them just in case they went all counter culture? That’s the only thing even remotely possible in my mind.
Right there in the 2nd paragraph, they were anti vietnam… that was enough back then.

Probably the Vietnam thing but it’d be a lot of fun if it was because of something like secret messages encoded in “Last Train To Clarksville”
