Hawkwind, anyone ?

Well, I know this is a Ministry forum, but posting about Ministry would be sooooooooo predictable. So, instead : are there Hawkwind lovers, fans, amateurs, aficionados, whatever, here ? I would have asked about “space-rock” in general - actually I do listen to quite a wide range of space-rock, from Monster Magnet to White Hills thru… Alien Sex Fiend ? - but I always felt the “space-rock” label is just a bit too narrow for Hawkwind. Pre-punk, pre-industrial, heavy, tribal, acid-folk, glam, stoner, techno, prog, ambient, they explored much more sonic landscape than most bands ever will do, and influenced bands you would never associate with their “old hippies that used to know Lemmy” image… (to name a few : Portishead, The Sex Pistols, Senser, The Clash, The Sisters Of Mercy, Monster Magnet, Pulp, Acid Mothers Temple, The Buzzcocks, Throbbing Gristle, Jello Biafra, Chrome, Der Blutharsch, Amorphis, Sheep On Drugs, New Order thru Peter Hook, The Legendary Pink Dots, L7, Mudhoney, Primal Scream…)

Ok, stopping the cosmic rant now. I just wanted to say if any of you guys is interested, I have a (rather) huge collection of Hawkwind bootlegs, and that I’m always happy to share, just ask

(and didn’t Al mention in some interview he used to listen to Hawkwind as a teen ? Makes sense.)

I’m a casual appreciator, I guess.
I’m a Lemmy/ Motorhead fan first and foremost so that’s my generic excuse but I’ve liked some of their works aside from just the late 60’s/ early 70’s stuff. I used to have XENON CODEX which I’d picked up for 99 cents somewhere and I thought it was a pretty cool album. I liked playing it in my apartment as background/ atmosphere music when I wasn’t doing anything particular.

Love Hawkwind and most of the bands mentioned…but we have already discussed it on the other board[:)]

nice foetus quote.

can’t say i know hawkwind, though. welcome to the forums!

SONIC ATTACK!!!

They’re a decent band but the lyrics are silly and kinda ruin it for me.

I agree that Space Ritual is fine album though. Pick it up on vinyl if you can!!

Hugely influential band.
