Hardcore fans?

so im big into hardcore (Sick of it All, Leeway, 108, Inside Out, so on and so forth) any other fans on the board?

i ask because my own hardcore band ‘Unwilling Participant’ just put out our brand new album ‘Our Bodies Will Burn Like Sage’ for free download here http://rustyhack-sawrecords.bandcamp.com/album/our-bodies-will-burn-like-sage and i was wondering if anyone here would be interested. i have picked up a lot of music from people on this board over the last few years, so i was hoping i could return the favor. haha.

Interesting that you bring this up. I was listening to X-Wave Radio on Friday at my job, and from about 7-9 AM, they played nothing but old-school punk and hardcore (X-Wave typically plays post-punk, old and new obscurites, and cold wave/electro on Sundays). I was a new wave/industrial nerd growing up, so it took years for me to backtrack and discover some old punk/hardcore, etc. I think my trail started with Pailhead, then I discovered Fugazi (the 13 Songs comp ranks high on my album list), then I listened to Minor Threat’s catalogue (which took all of 45 minutes!), and have had a casual interest ever since.

ANYWAY, listening to X-Wave on Friday, I heard “Five O’Clock” by Articles of Faith (a Chicago hardcore band), and “Steak Knife” by Angry Samoans, from Van Nuys, CA. Dug them both, and was pleased to find that their albums are easy to obtain. Don’t know if you know either of these bands, but I think it’s solid punk music. Also heard an Agnostic Front song, which was, oh, 15 seconds long, so I didn’t catch the title on the app display.

I will check out your music in the morning, cheers for the free download!

haha Angry Samoans are classic. haha. but yeah, some cool bands listed out there, we are more metallic and forward in out approach, so i hope it carries over in interest for you… haha…

its hard for me to find a good pinpoint for us… but umm… im the ‘singer’ so if you take any issue with the vocals, lyrics, or melodies, im the guy you should yell at. haha.

the bands that i listened to that I considered hardcore (which some could be considered “punk”) were…

JFA
Dead Kennedy’s
GBH
Dayglow Abortions
Exploited
Descendents

that’s all i can think of atm.

Dead Kennedy’s

Descendents.

+1
along with those, the punk Bands I adored as a teen:
Misfits
Circle Jerks
Black Flag (up until Henry showed up - not that I don’t like henry just never got into that era of Black flag)
D.O.A.
Minor Threat.
Bad Religion
All (after Milo left for college!)
I owned Never Mind the Bollucks but couldn’t really get into it.

I also was into a San Francisco band called “transition.” They weren’t early 80’s or anything but still had that kinda sound. They only put out one record called “spine” but it kicked ass. they came out on Greg Ginn’s SST label. Would love to know if any of those dudes went on to any other music.

The First Four Years lp is definitely something special…

Tough guy hardcore took me a LONG time to get into, but I dig it. My favorite hardcore act right now is No Innocent Victim. NASTY.

originally being from NJ i grew up with a lot of that stuff, and i donno, when i was way younger i got into it more. but now… ehh, i guess i still like MADBALL. haha.

for me hardcore is more than a sound, and its more than delineations in the sand about this and that, for me hardcore is music that means to much to be anything else. when the message in the lyrics is more important than the delivery, when there is more passion than beauty, or when you abandon any attempt to think about how to resent yourself. i guess its sorta when anger and fire takes over the music and everything takes a backseat to the passion.

so some of my fave hardcore bands would be 108, Cro-Mags (the John Joseph years…), inside out, H2O, RESSURECTION (yes, it is spelled that way), Agnostic Front, 25 ta Life, Sick Of It All, CIV, and the Pig Destroyer.

but yeah, have any of ya’ll checked out my (free) album? i would like to know what some of you guys think.

It’s a shame what hardcore has evolved into. Now it’s all hipsters in skinny jeans flailing their arms in the air in pits.

I used to go and see Black Flag quite a bit during their heyday. Pretty intense scene back then. Probably my favourite gig was the Black Flag / Minutemen show in '84. I think I got a black eye at that one.

Saccharine Trust were another good band. Not exactly ''hardcore" maybe, but their gigs definitely were.

I was a huge fan way back when.

Fragile Porcelain Mice.

so did any of you guys ever end up checking out the album? i would still like to hear from some of ya’ll.

and if you are interested, the book ‘Burning Fight’ (named after an INSIDE OUT song) is a really amazing oral history of 90s hardcore that i am quite in love with… revelation records put it out a clip ago, and amazon has some good deals on it…

I started listening to the track (at work, though, so I had the volume turned way down). I like the music, but the vocals were not my favorite. I’ll try to give more of a listen later.

Oh, I just realized there’s a bunch of songs there. The only one I listened to so far was “Our Bodies Will Burn Like Sage”. I’ll try to check out some more later.

Old, but it just wouldn’t be a ‘hardcore’ thread without it.

Ahhh, Moshzilla. Good times, Man.

I remember 6 years or so back when that thing blew up. My buddy found a site and people were posting new photoshops up practically every 1/2 hour. We spent the next three days looking at every single one and laughing our heads off.

I like the expression of the dude directly behind her!
