i saw puppy last year and although it was a great gig, from a performance pov, the sound was fucking appalling. my g/f, who wanted to like it, pretty much hated it… but she tolerated it for me. i hate all the fanboys that think everything the kevs touch turns to gold when sometimes it simply isn’t that good. i love SP, i really do, but coming out of that gig and having to explain to my g/f that it was the sound in the venue which was shit, along with pretty fucking poor front of house mixing, made me feel like an idiot. the fact i knew what it was supposed to sound like helped a lot, but for someone that only knows their stuff in passing (i.e. my g/f) it sounded like shit. then all the fanboys online were going on about how amazing the gig was… and it wasn’t. it was shit. ruined by poor sound. it’s not like ogre is a conventional singer at the best of times… anyway, i’m fucking stoked about the new album and can’t wait. i just hate the way people have blinkered vision over SP. ffs, some of their stuff is just noise. a lot of it is awesome though. lol, i’m a shit ‘fan’.

when they are great they are great, but everything has to fit I guess…I like the sound of this better than mythmaker …which I cant listen to almost.Haze and ugli were ok though…

last saw them in 04 …hope to catch`em again soon…

It’s normally hard to gauge quality from 30 second samples however these have me excited to hear the album - Skinny Puppy’s music from nearly every era is so dense with layers of synths and samples that hearing a few clips doesn’t really do justice to the scope of a full song.

Some of these sound tonally darker than anything from Mythmaker. Appears the kick and snare tones used are more abrasive too if that means anything.

To those criticizing the similarity to Ohgr material, I’m not really hearing it. I’m getting the vibe from these samples that this is a much more lyrical album than the last two which is great as I felt both Greater Wrong and Mythmaker, while containing some excellent music from Cevin and Mark, fell back on too many repeated vocal stanzas that wasn’t typical of the best SP material.

Totally not expecting anything as earthshaking as “Spasmolytic” or “Worlock” though.

…oh, what the hell.

I know I’ll buy it.

I liked the “Village” sample.
