Cleo has a new vinyl release coming out on 10/31 called Halloween: The Lost Mixes…which is a handful of unheard unreleased stuff from 1985.
Halloween: The Lost Mixes (coming out on 10/31)
Side A: Everyday Is Halloween (Dirt Mix)/Everyday Is Halloween (Dirt Dub)
Side B: Playground/I See Red (Instrumental)
Here’s the press info: Unearthed from studio tapes comes these two unreleased mixes of Ministry’s electro-pop masterpiece "Everyday (Is Halloween)!"These mixes are extended and hypnotic offereing glimpses of the industrial direction that Ministry founder Al Jourgensen was heading in!Also includes two additional unreleased gems on the B-side!Colored vinyl!
So the two mixes are vintage, no idea those existed prior. Playground is a known unreleased song but is totally unheard, so very excited for that. I think it was recorded for Twitch, but could be wrong. I See Red is an instrumental remix and isn’t just the original song sans the vocals.
Also, there is a new vinyl release for Halloween: Greatest Tricks as well, only containing about half of the tracks from the original CD.
“Playground” is an epic twelve minute “Twitch”-era track. It has been sitting in my bedroom for over 30 years since I got it (and the other songs in this release) from “borrowed” reel to reel tapes, acquired from DJ Mark Stephens at Medusa’s one Friday night in 1986. Thanks to Cleopatra for letting me find a proper home for them.
I highly recommend buying this release if you are a fan of this era Ministry.
Very cool, thanks for sharing. 12 minutes? That does sound pretty epic. I knew the song existed, and now I’m even more excited to hear it. Looking forward to the Halloween mixes as well.
I’ve heard a bootleg version of the instrumental I See Red, and if it’s the same mix, it’s a cool “in between” version of the original and “My Favorite Things”. A different arrangement of the song with some added beats and effects. It should be almost identical to the PTP version, minus the guitar and vocals.
There’s still a couple of buried holy grails from this era, the heavily remixed/reworked version of “The Angel”, as well as the original version of “What’s My Mission Now” with Al’s vocal track. Hopefully those surface one day.
Are there any remaining live shows from 1982-1986 (audio or video) that could still surface? I recall a photo that Julia posted of the Wax Trax archives that included several VHS tapes with “Ministry”.
Oh yeah, they had a ton of Ministry VHS tapes in those pics. Very curious to see if any footage exists for 1982. Even if the quality isn’t great on all of them, they should still at least try to get them out there for fans to enjoy.
As far as audio goes the Palladium 83 show still needs to be released. Wax Trax has a decent audio copy of the 84 Exit show, hopefully that comes out in full.
Actually, Playground is around 10:46- I just checked for accuracy…
I heard years ago at Wax Trax the Angel Remix but have been unable to find a copy. I have some audio from unreleased shows including their first ever from 12/31/81, and have recently unearthed some more With Sympathy demos including What He Say, Say You’re Sorry, Here We Go, etc. It’s up to Cleopatra if they want this stuff for any future releases, but they don’t seem to be too jazzed at the moment.
If that’s the one with The Missing on the b-side, it’s a non official mix. The unreleased version is supposed to be completely redone with new vocals and new instrumentation.
