A friend forwarded this youtube link to me yesterday. It’s a cover of “Halloween” done by the winner of “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” Outside of “wait, what?!” I’m not sure what to think.
I haven’t heard too many Ministry covers, but Al is getting a dose of his own medicine. As in, he does shitty covers of other people’s songs and someone returns the favor by doing a shitty cover of one of his.
I actually thought it was hauntingly good.
Not my favorite, but I respect it. I really like the piano part. Mainly, though, it meets MY criteria for covers . . . that it be re-interpreted into something new and original. I’m not a huge fan of the vocals, but the concept is great. I’d like to see the same idea/arrangement fleshed out by someone a little more accomplished in the vocals department . . . maybe Tori Amos or something.
I didn’t finish it either.
And good point about the “meaningfulness” of it with the tranny. I kind of missed the obvious on that.
And I never even liked the original so I guess it’s impossible for me to get butthurt about any cover version to begin with.
Agreed. That’s how you do a cover version.
Here’s another off the wall cover song I like.
It was very appropriate that a transsexual was singing the song considering the lyrics. I think that is what made the cover work for me. If Tori Amos sang it I think I would just find it pretentious and boring.
bingo! both of them are trannies, actually. pretty awesome, especially considering one of them is iranian!
I like it quite a lot, actually. Better than anything I’d have expected to come out of that kitchy show. Al aside, I’d bet Jim Nash would’ve loved it. Given his history with Divine and all.
Reminds of Stabbing Westward. I’ll pass though.
I’ve given it some thought, and I do like the musical arrangement. It’s along similar lines to what Gary Jules did for his cover of “Mad World.” But the vocals definitely leave something to be desired.

Gary Jules butchered that song.

No, I just like Tears For Fears. Though I sure could use a drink after seeing the 9ers lose.
Tears For Fears is SUCH an underrated band, literally every song they put out is good.
lol I saw this drag queen perform live once in a packed gay club
It was…yeah
He looks exactly like my ex…that guy who runs the Wolf Party…
But this cover is surprisingly well done, so that’s cool !
