For all you money blowing TG fans www.gristleism.com
Frustrating how there’s no samples [mad]
Hope it’s as good as the Endless Not. One of the few ‘reformed’ bands that are making output that is matching, if not bettering, their old stuff (Dinosaur Jr is the only other band I can think of in this category…)
Are they just redoing older songs? I’ve noticed many older “songs” of theirs on there.
It’s one of those “Buddha Box” things, little boxes that play a set number of loops. They were all the rage 5 years or so back in the experimental/underground scene. It’s a little disappointing to see TG behind the times rather than pioneering space.
I actually dreamed about this release last night. Even though it’s in my dreams, I don’t imagine I’ll buy it.
Even if it is a sort of disappointing self-playing ‘best of’ sort of thing, the limited edition is pretty fucking beautiful:

Here’s a good explanation of the original Buddha machine http://www.popmatters.com/music/reviews/f/fm3-buddhamachine.shtml
I wouldn’t mind getting a Gristleism for Christmas, but this seems like a really unoriginal thing for TG to be doing. When I first heard of the device, I assumed the various loops would randomly combine with each other to create a “new” Throbbing Gristle track every time the device was turned on. Wouldn’t that be a little more novel and interesting?
