Grindhouse on DVD

Anybody know why the original double feature hasn’t been released together yet? I really, really want a badass triple deluxe edition with extra trailers, commentary and all that other shit.

It’s most likely a marketing ploy. They know that fans will buy the 2 of them as they were sold individually and then buy them as ‘Grindhouse’ when they decide to release them in that form. As of now only Japan and Germany are selling the complete ‘Grindhouse’, (Germany region 2 version: http://www.amazon.de/dp/B0019JIY0E/)

I didn’t get to see ‘Planet Terror’ but I saw ‘Death Proof’ and was underwhelmed by it. I think Quentin went too far up his own hole and got lost. He could have paired off at least 25 mins and slapped it together with ‘Planet Terror’ as Grindhouse, a version that could be shown as a double feature internationally and would less likely bomb at the box office.

I vaguely remember that sales weren’t that good for these to make it happen

I had to record it from Starz to get Grindhouse together. I bought Death Proof and Planet Terror on Blu-Ray.

Reminds of the Kill Bill “Whole Bloody Affair” set that never came out.

It’s available to watch online through Netflix too. Fuck them for not releasing that 6 disc version stateside. I was expecting the “make suckers buy two copies” marketing ploy, so I didn’t (and won’t) but the single movie DVDs, but at this point I feel burned enough to not buy the full version even if they do release it.

I was also underwhelmed by Death Proof, but the car scene at the end kind of makes up for it. Planet Terror is ridiculous(ly awesome), and makes the whole thing great. I want the whole thing though, as it was intended to be seen. I would also like the “Hobo With a Shotgun” trailer, that wasn’t shown in the states.

I saw Hobo with a Shotgun when I saw this in the theater.

I don’t know how Deathproof would hold up on a TV set (at least a smaller set like mine) but on screen that last half hour more than made up for the total crap that most of the rest of the movie was.
