Good comedians meaning NOT DANE COOK

I find that it’s really hard to find some funny people as of late. Especially with the appearance of dane Cook… He doesn’t even tell jokes he tells these pointless stories that go NO WHERE and have NO humorous qualites to them what-so-ever (Stick to acting buddy!)

The the really good comedians are gone. Rodney Dangerfield, Sam Kinison

With the death of Mitch headberg a few years back witty, silly, one-liner jokes have been very scarce.
However, I think Demitri Martin is definately in the vain of Mitch. That guy is so silly I can’t help but laugh. He’s New and Around

Chappel has stayed solid. Although, he has taken the last few years off but his 2nd special was just as strong as his first. and his TV show was comedy GOLD. But He’s M.I.A. right now

I like Wanda Sykes but she has made some crappy career moves which don’t do her any justice. I think she is often overlooked. also M.I.A.

Jim Gaffigan hugely funny Although his little “mock the crowd thoughts” is a bit old (he could do with out that in his act. I understand it’s just filler but find something else!) still around

AS i said in a previous thread Denis leary is pretty funny although I think he only appeals to a certain generation.
His stand up is definately M.I.A.

Lewis Black pretty much Rounds out the funny stand ups (I Like John stewart but I don’t consider the daily show Stand up) Still around.

“Dice” Clay was funny back when because you couldn’t beleive that guy was saying stuff like that. He was just so damn mean you can’t help but laugh. Although some people could help from laughing. I understand! His stand up is M.I.A.

It seems the old stand by comedians are crappy now too!
I present Carlin!
His old stand up is still very relevant and very funny. All the way up until “back in town” released in like 92 maybe? After that, man it’s the bitter ramblings of a hateful old man. “Back in town” was great but after that album it was like he hit a wall.

I present Chris Rock. First two Albums (Born Suspect and Roll with the new)Fantastic!! Last two albums blew chunks!

I know he’s not much of a stand up guy But Adam Sandler’s CD’s went crappy after the first 2 CD’s

Colin Quinn The Original DANE COOK UGH this guy makes me more mad than Dane! NOT FUNNY! NEVER BEEN FUNNY. consider yourself luck for having a successful career in a field that you know nothing about! Like me getting an award from nasa for theories on Calculus. Unbeleivable.

The new “Phenom” Comedians SUCK:
Sarah Silverman- if she wasn’t pretty she would have no career, Eye candy for the Men. I think Dane cook is the Same thing for the ladies, Eye Candy.

Pick anybody on any of the Comedy central roasts.
Just pitiful! Jimmy Kimmel was doing his best stuff on Ben Stein’s $ sad sad sad!

My personal list of favorites:

Rodney Dangerfield
Sam Kinison
Emo Phillips
Steven Wright
Mitch Hedberg
Dave Chapelle
Richard Pryor
Eddie Murphy (Delerious-era and his 80’s comedies)
Chris Rock (Bring The Pain is his best)
Steve Martin
Robert Schimmel
Greg Fitzsimmons
George Carlin (older stuff)
Lewis Black
Bob Newhart (clean, but funny stand-up from 40+ years ago)

I like Sarah Silverman’s show, it’s pretty outrageous at times. The singing, I could do without. The fictional Cookie Party TV show is freaking hilarious. Any show hosted by a transvestite and a muppet gets my vote. Plus, I want to bang Sarah’s sister, Laura. She’s strangely hot.

Dane Cook, yeah, he blows. I saw his Kool Aid man animated bit on Comedy Central’s website a while back…thought that was hilarious, but nothing else he’s done since is any good. The guy made a film with Jessica Simpson, I mean…c’mon.

Someone that surprised me recently was Dave Attell. He was always just ‘ok’ on Insomniac, but his recent HBO special was really good.

Dice was good at the very beginning, and on The Day The Laughter Died. He had a profanity-fueled blow up on CNN not too long ago that was funny as hell (I hear it on Howard Stern from time to time).

Can’t stand Sykes, Gaffigan’s ‘thought mockery’ gets on my nerves, Leary annoyed me with the MTV commercials and that stupid “Asshole” song that everyone seems to like. Colin Quinn was kinda funny on Remote Control, sucked ass on SNL, and is mildly funny when he participates in roasts on Howard’s show.

Not sure that I have an absolute favorite comic, but Dangerfield is definitely right up there. The guy was a natural. Loved watching his HBO specials in the 80’s (that’s where I discovered Kinison).

Bob Newhart (clean, but funny stand-up from 40+ years ago)
I forgot about Stephen Write HE IS FUNNY but where is his new standup? he has been Missing In Action too. I forgot to mention Harland Williams too his newest stand up is really funny! Damn that guy is good!I also forgot about Norm Mcdonald damn he’s funny too! But Also M.I.A

I only know Newhart from the newhart show and I never thought that was very funny.
I’ve never heard of Robert Schimmel Greg Fitzsimmons, or Emo Philips and
while steve Martin is a funny guy I don’t think I’ve ever seen any stand up and at any rate he’s not performing new material so he too is M.I.A

ANother big Name I don’t find Funny any more is Robin williams. He was funny in the 80’s. I think “a night at the Met” (or ment or whatever the name of the venue was called) was the best thing I saw/heard. His newest one “On broadway” or whatever is HORRIBLE every one raves about his bit on golf and I think it sucks!! Carlin’s Golf bit was much better!!

I’ve never really liked eddie murphy. Didn’t think many of his jokes in RAW were all that funny. never saw delirious and thought he was stupid on SNL. But thats par for SNL and black comedians. Chris rock sucked on SNL too cause they type cast all the black folks. The funniest thing I think Murphy has done is Be DONKEY from Shrek He’s really good in that but then those are someone elses jokes!

Dane Cook, yeah, he blows. I saw his Kool Aid man animated bit on Comedy Central’s website a while back…thought that was hilarious, but nothing else he’s done since is any good. The guy made a film with Jessica Simpson, I mean…c’mon.

Yeah I forgot about Kool aid man that was amusing but I think his funny list stops there! You can tell how funny it is really considering that was his only memorable bit and I forgot about it!!

Dice was good at the very beginning, and on The Day The Laughter Died. He had a profanity-fueled blow up on CNN not too long ago that was funny as hell (I hear it on Howard Stern from time to time).

What happened here? I never heard about that. Give a brief synopsis please is it youtubeable?

Colin Quinn was kinda funny on Remote Control, sucked ass on SNL, and is mildly funny when he participates in roasts on Howard’s show.

Funny on remote control? All he did was sit there off to the side with Kari Wuher (or however you spell it) on his lap and try to act cool. acting cool with a hot chick at the time does not = funny. Now Sandler LOL that guy was good on Remote control. He would always parade in as these different relatives of the host ADAM was funny!

I can’t point to a memorable line from Quinn I don’t think Quinn has ever even made me crack a smile he always just pisses me off cause he’s so damn stupid
Not sure that I have an absolute favorite comic, but Dangerfield is definitely right up there. The guy was a natural. Loved watching his HBO specials in the 80’s (that’s where I discovered Kinison).

I agree Dangerfield I think definately led the pack! It seemed so easy for him. THat line from caddyshack STILL has me in stitches. I bet when you buy a hat like that you get a free bowl of soup!" His delivery was comic genius!! Kinison very funny guy and sad when he died! whenever a preacher reforms you know you;re gonna get some good shit!!
Late,
grmpysmrf

good post grmpysmrf, i’ve been meaning to check out good comedians of recent years, i had no idea who mitch hedberg was but his stuff on youtube is hilarious! shame he passed away.

i’ll defo look at the other names mentioned here, but my personal faves would be dangerfield and bill hicks.

Bill Hicks
Dana Gould
David Cross

Carlin is my god.

Rollins has a lot of humour in his spoken word nowadays…mostly jokes slipped into anecdotes of endless touring…

Can’t believe I forgot Bill Hicks. He’s on the list, too.

I was actually thinking of Sandler on Remote Control, now that you mention it, grmpysmrf. Quinn was boring there, too.

Steve Martin was a classic stand-up back in the day. The material is dated, since most if not all of it was from the 70’s, but it’s definitely worth listening to. Bob Newhart performed stand-up in his early days pre-Newhart. He would typically perform a ‘one-man conversation’, which usually involved a telephone call exchange. You could almost ‘hear’ what the voice on the other end of the phone was saying, just by his witty dialogue. I discovered his stand up listening to Laugh Break on Sirius Radio.

‘Raw’ was a weak Eddie Murphy concert, check out ‘Delirious’ to see a classic show by him. I actually saw ‘Raw’ in the theater, and after the 100th time of “Eddie! What have you done for me lately?!”, I wanted to walk out. His SNL bits Buckwheat Sings Your Favorites, and Mr. Robinson’s Neighborhood, are classics.

I discovered Schimmel and Fitzsimmons through their appearances on Howard, and Emo Phillips is just downright weird, but his punch lines are always out of left field, and hilarious. Definitely YouTube some Emo, decide for yourself. You’ll either love him or hate him:

Eddie Murphy- Raw & Delirious
Eddie Izzard
Jack Dee
Russell Brand
Peter Kaye
Lee Evans

Nothing beats Britains comedians
[:P]

I’ve seen Chappelle 2x in the past few years and he is out of control funny live. The first time i saw him he performed for 3-4 hours and was funny the entire time. he did a 6 hour set in l.a. last month so he is still around. but seriously if he comes to your area go see him, even if he does charge $50-$75 a ticket. it’s well worth it.

I also fine Bill Burr to be hilarious. He was a writer/actor for the chappelle show and is pretty damn funny. he’s white and does racial humor in a very intelligent way. He had a half hour comedy thing on HBO a couple years ago. i try and go to the montreal comedy fest every couple years to check out new people. that is where i first saw burr. This past year i spent my time checking out “the family guy live” and “the kids in the hall reunion” so i didn’t see much standup.

chris rock is touring now. i’m considering going to see him in detroit.

Hedberg was brilliant. Can’t stand Cook.

I find sarah silverman atrocious looking, but she can be funny in 5 minute doses. Like when she called Tim robbins “mr sarandon” at the mtv awards. but she gets annoying quickly.

Definitely YouTube some Emo, decide for yourself. You’ll either love him or hate him:

Yeah he didn’t do it for me.

Here’s that Dice clip:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6M9C6a1K0nI

Dice is hilarious! That totally did it for me! HA!

Forgot to mention Chris Rock’s “Bring the Pain” and “Roll with the New” are the same show, just one is on DVD and one is on CD. Rock’s Tv SHow was great too. That was my first intro to wanda Sykes (Who coincedently writes jokes for Chris)

Saw Dennis Miller, Kevin Nealon, and Dana Carvey live at the Kennedy center 20 years ago. Miller’s hucken fillarious live.

Nealon Has grown on me since “Weeds”, He’s so funny!I liked him in Happy Gilmore. He was ok on the news For SNL.
I’ve never cared for Denis Miller ALthough I can see his comedy appeal to some people and he still occasionaly has a zinger that is pretty funny. I guess he is My version of Dice clay I can see why people think he is funny I just don’t care for his comedy.
As for Carvey who would have thought the Star of waynes world and the church lady would be a HAS BEEN now… SAD SAD SAD
Oddly enough I heard the tall chap Bob something or other from Full House is pretty damn funny, funnily enough.

Yeah I’ve heard that too! Bob Saget is his name. Actually Saget won me over a little bit in “Half Baked” where he stands up and says he’s sucked dick for Coke and the black dude next to him says “I seen him Do it”!
TOO Funny.

KEZ

I like British Humor I love how dry it is! I’m sure you hear it all of the time but John Cleese and the Dudes from Monty Python are hysterical. Even now 30 some years later. The tv Show and The Search for the Holy Grail are genious!!

Eddie Izzard
Neil Hamburger

I don’t have much to add here, but Bob Newhart - NICE. I can’t believe someone listed him. He’s usually overlooked despite having a huge record career in the 60’s. #1 record with his first.

-E

I live for Neil Hamburger. Met the guy once and he’s incredibly cool too.

Not one mention of Zach Galifianakis? You people are insane.

1002:

Robert Schimmel’s early stuff is great!

Not one mention of Zach Galifianakis? You people are insane.

Whew???

Alright I just you tubed him and it seems he uses plants quite a bit because his act is always the same “SHUT UP!! Your stupid! I appear to hate myself but you’re even worse so that makes me angry” comedy. He had a couple of smile moments but mostly for the situation, but every clip seemed to mimick the last…Meh whatever

grmpysmrf

I think Maynard from Tool used to do stand up.

yeh he’d open for bill from time to time im told…
