In glorious capitalist fashion there’s also the exclusive kmfdmstore only CD and CD/T Shirt combo. Was happy to see the downloads were readily accessible.
The Melvins take has sort of a dub feel with heavy emphasis on the vocals and bass. (the Security Forces remix). Never thought I’d see their name near a KMFDM release!
The new 2010 version sounds like a synthesis of the original 12" mix and the Doglike version from a few years later. Not at all what I’d have feared (and maybe expected).
If anyone wants to preview the Melvins or Prong remix, they’re on Youtube now (illegally). The Prong mix is kind of cool, but there’s still a lot of current releases I’ll buy before this one. [:/]
just pre ordered and i have to say the Godlike 2010 track is pretty badass. cleaned up, few more guitars, but overall sounds much stronger than the original. now onto the remixes…
i like how their mp3’s were 320kbps non variable as well.
Yeah, this trend I find really boring. Not being cynical (for a brief moment) and thinking about such things as cashing in on past glories, I can see how the artist might find it fun from a nostalgia standpoint, but from a listener/consumer point of view I just don’t find it interesting.
I do like reissues of past albums with additional tracks etc. But this re-recording, remixing, whatever thing just doesn’t interest me.
Even Neubauten, my favourite band ever, bored me with the remake of Neun Arme on the Supporters’ album #2. I just don’t see the point. It never seems to capture the magic of the original, and its an exercise in futility.
Nostalgia trips provide a little entertainment but when it’s still an active band rehashing their old hits it can make you pine for the days when they were still a creative force.
It does make me wonder if this means the next album will have more of a classic sound to it, with the involvement of outside contributors and the EXTRA series, remasters and the upcoming Greatest Hits collections all coming out within a couple years of each other, giving newer fans more exposure to the good old days as KMFDM moves into their fourth decade of existence.
this entire bundle for 25 bucks is pretty awesome man. i was just gonna get the shirt, the bundle isn’t much more. the fact that the godlike update mix sounds good was +1.
