GODFLESH NEWS

GODFLESH, the industrial metal band from Birmingham, England which formed in 1988 by Justin K. Broadrick (guitar, vocals, and programming) and G.C. Green (bass) and disbanded in 2002, will perform at this year’s installment of the Hellfest, set to take place June 18-20, 2010 in Clisson, France. This will mark the reunited group’s only appearance in Europe.

According to Justin, the band’s lineup for the Hellfest performance will consist of Broadrick and Green, accompanied by various “machines and projections.”

Justin explained to U.K.'s [url “http://www.terrorizer.com/”]Terrorizer magazine the reasons behind the band’s return to the live stage.

“It wasn’t remotely planned,” he said. “Whenever it’s been mentioned previously, I’d stated categorically not, regardless of the color of the offers. But, somehow, this started to make sense late 2009, and once I put it to Ben ‘G.C.’ Green in no unceertain terms, it made sense to him, too. Not having to support a record or a label and just do as we wish on our terms is exciting, and to play as GODFLESH were originally designed is even more thrilling. Not that this may be repeated at all after Hellfest; we’re literally taking it as it comes.”

Terrorizer: What else have you got planned?

Justin: “GODFLESH will not commit to anything but Hellfest currently. I am unsure as to where we will go from there, if we go anywhere at all.”

Terrorizer: Obviously, I’ve got to ask, what are the odds of any new GODFLESH material?

Justin: “That is fairly minimal. We are more than happy to return to our old sound for a show, but uncertain how we could do this in the context of new material. We’ve both moved on so much, but we will not rule out any possibility currently.”

Terrorizer: What do you think makes a reunion worthwhile?

Justin: I consider it more worthwhile for those who never got the chance to experience the band live, especially under great conditions, as in projections and big stage/sound."

GODFLESH split up in April 2002 — six months after Green announced his departure from the group. “Regrettably it took until the day of leaving for a lengthy U.S tour for the realization [that the band was over] to finally take its toll on me,” Broadrick stated at the time. “Unfortunately, the finality of the decision and the responsibilities of making the decision proved too much for me to bear, and I collapsed under the weight. I found that without G.C. Green, GODFLESH is not GODFLESH, and him leaving proved to be an omen for me. I also feel that everything we originally intended or even imagined with GODFLESH we have done.”

Ah, Justin the neo-nazi.

It will just be the 2 of them? No Parsons or Dalton? That’s a minus point for me. I just think live drums will always beat machines, esp. with a band like Godflesh (but maybe not for their earlier material)

Justin is also remastering Streetcleaner to coincide with the Hellfest set. I also believe a few of the songs that didn’t make Streetcleaner are being added???

who’s the chrome dome on the left?

@evil dildo: that would be Ted Parsons

drummed for Swans, Godflesh, jesu, Killing Joke, Prong…

pretty cool record for a pretty cool drummer.

He also recorded and/or toured with Of Cabbages and Kings,Buckethead,Foetus,Teledubgnosis,Public Image Limited and the Legendary Pink Dots…

Justin is just bullshitting since I happen to know that the Hellfest offer is very green indeed.

Judging by GREYMACHINE and that part of Infinity, you know he wants to do heavier music again. Maybe he’s pulling a Gira and “in order to move forward, needs to reactivate godflesh”. Would be nice.

it’s just speculation, but maybe he just feels like going out and reliving a few songs with some friends? I mean, music is so much a commercial institution now that any sort of reunion large or small is considered a cash in. You ever get a few in you and miss those old songs you used to play with so and so? (to the musicians here anyway) and mix in the right offer at the right time to play a show and maybe you’ll take it up. sure you’re maybe getting alot of “green” and maybe it’s for the green or maybe you’d have done it for far less, but why take a pay cut on principle. Personally I’d have rather he took brain out as the drummer for this show, but whatever. It’ll be cool, one time thing or whatever it turns into.

Seriously.
It’s Godflesh, for crying out loud, I guarantee you they’re not making THAT much money. It’s not like Abba is reuniting for billions or something.

They are getting paid a lot for this show, probably more than any show they ever played.

BTW - it dooesnt matter really, I’ll still try to go to this show. I just dont like people being delusional - the motivation behind this reunion is largely a financial one. There is nothing wrong with that since if they can get a lot of money for a single concert, why the hell not do it?

All reunions are about money. Except Pink Floyd’s one in 2005, that was about Bob Geldof.

I remember seeing them when they opened for danzig, pretty good show.

Justin is doing this reunion for the fans and the fans alone…

Of course he’s doing it for the friggin money!

95% of the folk at that friggin festival won’t know who the fuck Godflesh are!

The Hellfest set is going to be a monster…Godflesh with a massive sound system and high quality projections…AWWWWWWWWWWW YEEEEEEEEEEEAH!!!

I’m sure the next day after Hellfest a few extra copies of Streetcleaner will be shifted.

It’d be friggin awesome if the set is recorded for a dvd/blu-ray (I wish) release…

Regardless of the reasons behind it, the prospect of new material and a remastered Streetcleaner is intriguing.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Also excited about hearing Streetcleaner with improved sound quality. I trust JKB will have the good sense to work the levels so there’s no clipping involved. The album sounds great the way it is, but it’s never loud enough!

The vinyl of it sounds great the way it is…and believe me it’s DEFINATELY loud enough when I play it!

Regardless I’ll be buying the remastered cd to see what Justin does with it.

When in the bejeezus are we getting the re-released (and extended) version of ‘Heart Ache’?

JKB is like a bad parent, all promises…

When in the bejeezus are we getting the re-released (and extended) version of ‘Heart Ache’?

I sure he’s said this already…but I’ll repeat it…we’re getting that Heart Ache re-release when you tidy your friggin bedroom and clean your teeth mick!

I remember there was this thread where someone compared JKB to Tom Hanks, and this conversation painted this epic picture in my head of Hanks in some movie where he makes his kid cry because he missed his ball game.

I fucking love Prongs.
