I saw Butthole Surfers @ The Echoplex this past August.
Absolutely blew my mind. Since then I’ve sort of had the
attitude above about music. Somehow that because a lot
of the Butthole’s sound is sort of free flowing, without structure
that it is somehow superior on an artistic level.
Ghost is the exact opposite. They go overkill in regards to song
structure and making room for eachother. For me, it’s a nice change
of pace. In my opinion their set @ The Roxy on Feb 2nd was terrific.
They played the Opus record in its entirety plus the cover of “Here Comes
The Sun”.
I think they sound better live than on the record. Every song was executed
very well. The only low moments of the show were “Death Knell” and
“Prime Mover”. But then again, those are the two songs I consistently skip over.
I just wonder where they go from here in regards to their retarded costumes.
I don’t doubt that their get up got them noticed. But…holy moly is it tough to
take seriously. I hope they ditch them in the future.
So pissed I missed them a few weeks ago. I just checked and tickets for Mastodon, Opeth and Ghost are 45$ + tax.
That ain’t happening. Sucks.
Yeah, that same tour is rolling through LA in April, but I couldn’t care less about Opeth and Mastodon and as the show is at Gibson Amphitheatre (previously Universal) I’m sure tix after fees and taxes and such will be at least $60.
I’m hoping Ghost will do their own thing sometime and do some smaller club gigs. I’d check 'em out for for $25, if it’s somewhere accessible, but I’m not interested in some dang arena.

Sorry, I forgot to answer you on this. I did skip through it, actually. I try to give a lot the bands I don’t know or are not familiar with a fair taste.
I’ll say that that track is definitely more interesting that previous SUNN O))) stuff I’d listened to. But it’s not something I would typically invest into anymore. I think it would be cool backing for an arty film piece or some atmospheric sound for other visual performance, but as a mere “song” it just doesn’t work for me.
There probably was a time when I would have got all frisky for it. Back in my late teens/early 20’s I listened to a good deal of stuff like NON, Nurse With Wound, Premature Ejaculation, Throbbing Gristle, etc.
I just don’t have the patience for it anymore.

What the fudge? I was checking their Myspace site and a bunch of other crap and all I saw was the gig with Opeth and Mastodon coming in April. I would have loved to see them in a small club.
