Ghost III - Meloria

I know some of you love them, and some not. Ghost released this ad a few days ago. Apparently it played on one station (VH1 Classics or something) at 4:00am. During a Caddyshack commercial break… It hasn’t been replayed since.

More bands need to do this kind of stuff. It’s brilliant.

The only copy of it is shitty though, so you’ll need to put up the volume:

The new singer will probably sound exactly like the other two singers.

I was under the impression that it has always been the same singer, just different personas?

Oh, is that how it works? I don’t think I properly understand their mythology.

I thought the Rev’s first comment was just brilliantly dry sarcasm. But for everyone’s benefit . . .

Yes, it’s always been the same singer.
They just have redone his image . . . now for the third time. I guess they’re doing it for each album.

I like that they have kind of a WWF or Dethklok storyline / mythos surrounding each new assemblage of Ghost. It’s fun, and it gives “meaning” to the new image and such instead of “Hi, we’re Slipknot. Yayyyy, new masks! Aren’t they scary?”

I really love the dry humor of the Ghost guys too.
“Papa II’s brother . . . he is a full three months younger.”

HAHAHAHAHA!!! Come on! That’s brilliant stuff right there.

I don’t presently own any albums but I’ve listened to 'em on YouTube plenty of times. I like them. I like everything they’re doing. The sound, the theatrics, the imagery.

I got no beef with these cats.

I only listened to 1 track, which i thought was utter crap, but the whole backstory and all that stuff is hilarious.

There’s a better version of it out now on their official site:

Something else that was great (that most people didn’t catch because they aren’t aware of what they sell…) Is when she says:

“don’t blame this fine merchandise!”… and she picks up the Ghost dildo.

Great stuff.

After watching the commercial I went back and revisited their catalog.
What they need to do instead of switching to chrome demon masks is remember how to write head-nodding riffs like they did on their first album and back off on the AOR synth stuff.

Rev - new single is out on their website now.

I think you’ll appreciate it. It’s slower and heavier than most of the last album. More riffy like you mentioned.

Yeah, that’s more like it!
More early '70s Ozzy, less late '80s Ozzy.

This is good advice for ANY band that wants my money.

70’s Carrie all the way:

That’s awesome.
I really do appreciate a band that presents a complete conceptual package . . . music, image, video, stage theatre, etc . . . .

Has anyone seen them live? I’ve caught them twice now… the first time was a real event, and completely sold me on them. Download festival 2012. Have a look: https://youtu.be/hXQynE2dDvk
The atmosphere before they came on was genuinely weird… not bad for a small tent, during daylight. Just wish they’d played Here Comes The Sun, which I only heard later. Not a Beatles fan, but that works so well. Second time I saw 'em was weird in a bad way… a package tour with some shitey techy metal band as the main draw. Ghost headlined but most people left before they came on. Their loss. I think the second record was a bit patchy, but I’m enjoying the new song so far - hoping for good things.

I’ve not seen 'em live, but I’d love to. As you’ve hinted, they seem to get packaged with some odd pairings which is one of the reasons I’ve not gone out of my way to catch them. I think I’ve seen them as support for Mastodon and something else I don’t care for . . . Deftones or something.

I think the PERFECT match-up would be Ghost as opener for KING DIAMOND.

Saw them in the early evening at an outdoor show opening for Opeth and Mastodon. Not ideal.

That’s a great song and cool video, but the new costumes suck.
They all look like monkeys.

Totally agreed on the new faceless ghouls’ masks. I was like, “What the heck is this? Robot ducks?”

The real ones (that have horns and such) that they wore on stage last week in Sweden look a lot better.

But the videos of the show don’t look that clear, so we’ll have to wait and see.
