Try either Psychic TV’s “Allegory And Self” or Throbbing Gristle’s “20 Jazz Funk Greats.” Both are great introductions to the world of Genesis P-Orridge.
Same here but they were important to the path of industrial music.

I’m very picky when it comes to TG’s work most of it is edgelord geekery but I’ll always be a fan of TG Now and Heathen Earth. I’m well aware of her impact and influence

I love Genesis.
S/he was really radical and the intensity of the live performances (which I sadly never got to witness in person) was off the fucking chart. I found he/r so interesting too, not just musically, but really all of the wacky off-court shit with body mods, the weird gender (or non gender) transformations, their relationship with that other gal who tragically died earlier and with whom they were doing that weird oneness jibber jabber where they were trying to look or be the same person or whatever. The drugs, the weird cult shit… . . . just everything. And, while Psychic TV had a really accessible pop sensibility, I actually really liked Throbbing Gristle too. Full on pioneer, s/he was in many ways. And, yeah, total key ancestor and originator in the whole Industrial family tree bullshit.

Well said. I like how TG blended certain pop with primitive noise and how something like “Subhuman” still sounds uncomfortable almost 50 years later.
I kind of sided with Chris&Cosey&Christopherson over Gen at the breakup of TG2, so fell out of following he/r, and that’s on me for being boringly tribal.
It’s fascinating to me how s/he predicted the whole fluid gender thing years before pansexuality became such a media focus. Honestly I think s/he’ll be known for that as much as the musical influence.

Jesus, that article is pretentious as fuck! I only made it about 1/3 of the way down before i fell asleep on it. How many different ways can he say genesis is/was a cult leader? And do you really need to employ all those 5$ words to do that? We get it, youre showing off your vocabulary but still youre just writing a piece about a cult leader. It’s not that important.
What TG was doing was 10x more punk than the punk rock of the time. That’s the funny part in all this. True pioneer.
In fact most halo industrial bands were far more innovative, rebellious and original than punk imo.
“Hamburger Lady” remains one of the scariest songs ever recorded.

^ It’s been a long time since I’ve played the song, but I always kinda thought of it as an industrial prototype of “One” by Metallica. They talk about the lady being burnt and in a hospital or something, so I just figured “hamburger” was a visual metaphor for her looking like a blob of charred meat. And, yeah, it’s a creepy song. I had “DOA: The Third and Final Report of Throbbing Gristle” (not sure if I got that totally correct) and the songs I remember and played quite often were “Hamburger Lady”, “Hit By A Rock”, and “Weeping”. They were all pretty haunting, hahahaha.
I just listened to it for the first time when you posted that it was scary so I thought I’d check it out. and yeah, it grabbed me pretty quickly for how haunting it was. I couldn’t make out most of the lyrics, really just “hamburger lady.” but the whole feeling I got from it was what I posted about a butcher and a woman being turned into hamburger.
Hamburger Lady — It’s a commentary on the societal expectations of gender norms and features a Hamburglar from McDonaldland, but instead of being the regular Hamburglar, this one has giant floppy tits and a big hairy pussy. It was pretty avante garde for the times, but I think we may finally be ready to embrace it.
