For the record I have never watched an episode of Game of Thrones in my entire life.
However, seeing as every time I turn on the tv or surf the net, I seem to come across bits and pieces of this supposedly “captivating and enthralling” medieval hoo ha, I was wondering if anyone here at prongs was a fan and could fill me in somewhat.
In short:
The fuck is about?
Should I care?
I hear it’s set in a mythical land or parallel universe or some such nonsense, so, in that case, is there any “gnarly” creature cgi shit?
I also notice it’s rated R (18+ here in OZ) and supposedly features “high level sex scenes” (at least that’s what it says on the dvd box) - so I guess my next question is: do I get to see lots AND LOTS of full frontal?
And if I DO indeed get to see full frontal, do I have to wade through about an hour of boring exposition, lots and lots of talky bits and drawn out battle scenes to GET to said full frontal?
And one last time - the fuck is the deal with this thing and should I just buy the darn thing on blu ray???

if you dig fantasy drama will gore and tits, then yeah, you’ll dig it. they actually tend to use the exposition scenes as an excuse for tits, as some of the more dry character/plot development happens whilst someone is fucking whores, getting a bj, etc.
there isn’t too much cgi stuff, the books aren’t TOO filled with magic type crap, but there are some tiny dragons and some undead type creatures (wights), a dire wolf here and there, and witches birthing shadow creatures. characters you think are gonna be around forever get murdered quite frequently and horrifically.
TL;DR it’s alot like Lord of the Rings but with tons more gore and tits. I dig it (read all 5 of those fucking 900+ page tomes, too), your mileage may vary, but I would say it in no way would substitute some decent pr0ns.

I saw about an episode and a half about 6 months ago and I distinctly remember seeing several scenes featuring gratuitous bush.
I could be wrong though, but I do have a feeling they went all the way with that stuff.
As for the quality of the series - eh, it’s ok. I think I’d probably have to watch it from the beginning though as I remember having a hard time distinguishing who was who and why they were important to the story line.

I have not seen a single episode, for the sole reason that I’m reading them now (halfway through book/season 2). Very good stuff. It’s fantasy… whaddya want?
I’m in the same boat. One of my friends watches it religously. I dont get the appeal though. And I’ve noticed their audience is mainly women, that’s another turn off right there… I’m more of a sci fi geek anyway, and if not that, some dark comedy a la Always Sunny in Philly.
Too many pretty faces in this though, which means the acting is probably shit.
Peligro, dude, it’s not your kind of thing I’m telling you. As someone mentioned previously, it’s full of pretty faces (I’m fairly sure most people in them ancient days weren’t so physically appealing with perfect skin, hair and teeth) saying pompous, silly overly dramatic things and having affairs and plotting to overthrow everyone else. It’s King Arthur for suburban dumbasses. Don’t even bother.

Some of the places it’s filmed in are shot where i’m from, and a few miles away from where i live now, they shoot in a few locations in Northern Ireland and Morocco, Croatia and other places. I watched the first episode, having bought it for my friend, a fantasy fan - who it turned out didn’t like the books anyway - the blu ray series 1 set. Kerrrrrr-apppppp!! Shite. Fucking hated it. Load of rapey, incesty tits action for shock’s sake.
I appreciate that some of my locale is onscreen, i’m happy when Ireland is onscreen, but the subject matter was not my scene at all. I fucking HATED it. Also, the person i bought it for never watched any more after i spent a load of cash buying the fucking thing, can’t say i blame him. Anyway, i give it a huge thumbs down, sub-LOTR cack with rape/whore/incest obsessions in almost every scene.
I’m so glad to see that people aren’t falling over themselves to praise it here. My wife and I have tried desperately to get into it, because we feel like we’re missing part of the cultural conversation, but it seems like a chore for us to slog through it. I usually fall asleep about fifteen minutes before each episode ends. There is a lot of talking about things that have happened, or that are going to happen, but there is precious little that is actually happening. I hear it’s great when you get far enough into it.

I had a looksee at some of the sexy bits just before and it doesn’t appear to show as much as I had hoped. Lots of tits and ass and little in the way of full frontal. The women, it seems, leave their dresses on and take their tops of during sex (?!?!?). And when they do take it all off there’s usually a strategically placed object in the way of the nether regions. Go figure.

But seriously, admittedly even though I know very little about this, what I have checked out does seem pretty naff. A soap opera set in some medieval fantasy kingdom? Has anyone seen that Merlin tv show?? Yikes. Game of Thrones seems to be like an “adult” version of that and little else.
Every once in a while the mainstream goes apeshit over some new fangled tv drama - which then eventually becomes passé and everybody who crazy over it suddenly pretends they never liked it in the first place. Remember that Desperate Housewives “phenomenon” ? Remember Grey’s Anatomy?
