anyone know how much influence paul had on lards work cos i was wondering if there is going to be more lard in future and if barker aint on board will it be detrimental to the wonder that is lard. i say this because ministry have fallen down a considerable amount since paul left. is the same in store for lard?
imho considering that houses of the mole was very guitarish and had alot of “punk” in it, i think barker’s absence wouldn’t affect lard much. i does, in my opinion affect ministry (to a lesser degree) and revco (very fucking much) with that ugly “prunetang” track.
i dunno, barker doesn’t stand out as a bassist, what i mean his bass lines are very easy (and fun to play nonetheless) and he did have his unique “sound”.
You may not consider Paul to be too unique as a bassist, but that’s hardly the only thing he brought to the table.
The Lard stuff, in my opinion, was pretty simple stylisticly. Especially the last album and EP. It’s like they just threw Biafra whatever was laying around that didn’t end up on the album. It shouldn’t be tough to reproduce that. Now Last Temptation of Reid on the other hand…
I dunno if it was just me er somethiung but the very first thing I noticed about Houses Of The Moly was that it sounded a hell of a lot like Lard, but with Al singing. That wouldve been a pretty sweet album if it had Jello doing all lyrics and vocals, but since it wasnt, its just a mediocre release of Al trying to do everything by himself and as simplistic as possible while doing so. Paul didnt added crazy complex shite to Lard but he had some of the fucking coolest punk/metal bass lines on a lot of the songs. Anyone who doesnt like the bass parts on Forkboy is totally insane. I think Lard will definitely be affected by Paul’s absence, but I trust in them to come up with something cool sounding anyways. As for Revolting Cocks… they’re final album is and will always be Linger Ficken Good, unless Paul joins again because RevCo without Mr.Barker is like peanut butter without peanuts. And for Ministry… throw in a few more keyboards and I’ll think about giving them another listen to…
agreed with everything orbasm said.
but as for revco, to me, barker’s bass lines and that sound are VERY CRUCIAL.
Who’s to say that al didn’t help Paul with bass lines…Al was a control freak in the late 80’s…right?
i still miss paul
