Don’t Crash is a really great song that didn’t get attention.
I agree best single song they ever did, at least they play it on the recent tours. The covers on those records Politics of Pressure, and Interception were great among my favorites. That was all part of the 242 package, neat graphics and slogans alongside the music.
Them playing Lollapalooza during the day in baggy shorts, while gaining them greater exposure, was sort of a low point for me.
I just picked up Pulse for the first time ever. I expected tracks like Triple X Girlfriend to be really lame but it’s actually a great, sad and lonely track - not at all the sort of nuMetal 242 hybrid track the name conjures. A lot of cool instrumental stuff too.
Can’t say I really know too much about these guys. Don’t mind the early 90s stuff and Tyranny For You is half decent, but I would say it’s been at least 12 years since I last sat down and listened.
Listening to “Official Version” recently and surprised at how much some of the no-club hit stuff sounds similar to some of LORAH. Tracks like “Television Station”“Rerun Time” and “Red Team” have a very similar vibe to guitar less/bassless versions of “Destruction” and songs like “I Prefer” and the first 1000 Homo DJs single. Anyone else hear this or am I mad?
I’ll have to see what album it was, but I recently picked up a $2 CD of Front242. I thought it was called Front-by-Front, but maybe it’s something else. It was from around 1987 or 1988, I think.
Uggghhh!!! This is not material that was pleasant to revisit. It really sounds so horribly dated and just . . . . lame.
I think I might be able to respin some of the later stuff like “Tyranny for You” or something (maybe I’ll try it later) but . . . . not this one. Nope. Just . . . doo doo.
That being said, I’m sure it was radical and cutting edge at the time . . . but, hey, so was PONG at one time.

Front by Front is the classic one with Headhunter and Welcome to Paradise. I love that album with all my heart.[/reply]
It had Headhunter on it, but I think it was a different version that said like Headhunter3.0 or something. That’s definitely the standout track for me, and is still awesome (maybe their best ever).
I’ll look the thing up tonight and let you know. I certainly don’t speak for everyone on these matters, but it just didn’t do anything for me except make me feel old.
I love Front By Front, but I don’t care for much of their stuff before that. Too “square” or something.
Tyranny is spectacular, but I think the Up Evil + Off combo is their finest hour.
They put on great shows too. That '98 tour was amazing. As was their Retrospectacle performance. They’re playing here in September, so I’m looking forward to that.
I just checked. Yeah, it was Front by Front that I picked up recently. If any of my homies want it, just tell me next time and you can take it out of my car.
Front By Front is an odd album, and I agree in that it’s not an easy listen. Of course Headhunter is a classic, but overall it’s a rather cold and joyless record. To me it almost seems more dated than their older work - perhaps too much reliance on samples and ‘modern’ technology, rather than just making stuff that sounds good. Saying that, I think most of their records are a bit patchy. Back Catalogue is a nice little mix of their first few records. Just as good, but rather different, is the Evil Off record - quite gothic and ambient with lots of female vocals. Certainly a favourite from back in the day. I caught them live back in '98 and wasn’t too impressed, but listening back (Re:Boot) and hearing them more recently they seem a pretty good live band. We know Al was a fan from way back, so no doubt some influence crept in somewhere… I was going to mention Nature of Love, but I see that Richard 23 appears on that record anyway.
