Gonna post a few things here that I dug out of a box while looking for something else. You may find this stuff interesting, or a complete waste of time. First up is a Wax Trax Tentative Release Schedule from January 1988 that was sent to me in the mail (I miss getting their cool shit in snail mail). Pretty interesting to see what was coming up at the time. It’s fairly short, so I’m just going to transcribe it:

These 3 are interesting

Revolting Cocks - ‘Cattle Grind’ - 12"
1,000 Homo DJs - TBA - 12"
Revolting Cocks - Black By Popular Demand - LP, CASS, CD

I suppose 1000 Homo Djs turned out to be supernaut…
Black by popular demand…? This was 88 right? When did Beers + Steers come out? re-name?
I wonder if these things ever got pressed or whether they were just bandied around at the time and then changed their mind before pressing?

since cattle grind studio version did surface after all, it proves that it was planned to be released as 12". as for “back by popular demand” i think it was renamed into “beers steers” and it’s nothing surprising. lorah album had “stigmata” as early name and working title, and psalm69 was supposed to be “tapes of wrath”.

awesome. i’ve got quiet a few of these. i also loved getting stuff in the mail. i’ve got some cool TKK stuff. When I ordered YGDSOB video I got a BS&Q poster, TKK stickers, and wax trax catalogue. Those were the days.

so are you guys sure that “black by popular…” wound up being BSQ? was there a tracklist for it? was there a tracklist for cattlegrind 12"?

Black was definitely a working title for BS&Q. I’ve got another interview or press release somewhere that lists it as well. No idea about a tracklist though.

Any chance of a scan? I’ve got a bunch of the old Wax press releases, and even like tracking down those dealing with other artists. Be happy to trade scans.

That was a frikking golden age.
Too bad I had no idea what I was missing until several years later.

I’ve got some scans coming of various stuff, so I’ll put those up in a little bit.

LORAH ticket stub from 1988:

The ‘opener’ was a film by Survival Research Laboratories.

Here’s an article from The Arts, an insert in the Chicago Tribune, from July 19, 1992:

I can’t seem to re-name my links here, is it somehow disabled?

Here’s an article from the Phoenix New Times, from November '88, the week Ministry was coming (I’d transcribed this one a while back):

Here’s a Wax Trax mailer from January '89. Anyone here have that RevCo Video CD for SSP? Did it actually get released?

Here’s that Wax Trax mailer I transcribed at the start of the thread. Yes, it really looks this bad. Fuckers sent me a bad Xerox or something:

Here’s a cool-looking Nettwerk insert - I think it came out of my Severed Heads “Dead Eyes Opened” vinyl. Printed on fancy textured paper…and check out how small their catalogue was at the time!

thanks…very cool stuff!

Speaking of Skinny Puppy, this is all I have to show for the rained out ViviSectVI show in Phoenix:

Imagine getting this thing in the mail. This is a postcard from crashARTS, advertising something called “BIG VID” and Laibach’s upcoming show for Sympathy and Let It Be.

http://thecorrugation.com/crash_card.jpg

I went to both events…because I would’ve been stupid not to! The BIG VID event was really cool - we all sat on a concrete floor in this broken down art space in the most industrial part of Phoenix (this is where Ministry and Puppy appeared). We watched a bunch of videos that came from the Wax Trax samplers, some Nettwerk vids, and the 4AD Lonely Is An Eyesore video, plus we actually saw the video for “Flashback”, which I don’t think anyone had really seen (not sure if 120 Minutes ever played it). Once the event was over, the DJ started playing tunes, and the first song was “Apathy”, and I had no clue who it was! Probably thought it was a Ministry ‘clone’ at the time. I’ll get to Laibach in a moment…

I had to post this Laibach stub…just a great-looking ticket (and it’s huge), and to this day one my top 5 concerts.

I wish I had the New Times clipping that warned all concert goers to bring sunglasses to the show. I thought it was a joke, but when we got inside the room at Crash, there were 5 or 6 flood lights aimed directly at the crowd. They lit those bad boys up a few times during the show, it was insane. Of course, Laibach was awesome, and it was a perfect mix of material from Opus Dei and Let It Be, with Sympathy For The Devil, and I think Die Liebe from Nova Akropola. Those guys just know how to put on a powerful, entertaining show. I was lucky enough to see them again in Phoenix in '97 for the Jesus Christ Superstars Tour. Great show, but it didn’t top the '89 gig.

Very cool stuff! Thanks, 1002!

great stuff 1002. man, i need to scan some stuff too.

Found something here I wrote the night after the Ministry concert in Ventura, California on 2/3/90. I used to write personal journals on and off back in high school, and a few years after. Basically, a few of us saw Al smoking outside the theatre after the show, so we walked up and talked to him . I wrote down a few things we asked him (don’t remember which questions were mine), and though not entirely interesting, it’s a small document of his state of mind at the time. This is the condensed version with just his responses:

When asked how things were going at Wax Trax:
“Fuck, hell if I know. I’m not a part of that label anymore.” I don’t keep up with the shit they put out. Nah, I have nothing to do with Wax Trax anymore. For all I know, they just put out a bunch of weird fuckin’ European bands. They don’t tell me when to take a shit in the morning, and I don’t tell them what groups to put out."

When asked about Sire Records:
“I hate Sire.”

When asked who he liked better, Sire or Wax Trax:
“Neither, man. I’d just as soon play a bar mitzvah than do this shit! Fuck, does anyone have any acid?”

When someone offers him some Nyquil instead:
"Shit, don’t give me any Nyquil. I’ve got plenty of that stuff, man. Shit, that’s how I sleep at night. "

Ok, not much to wow you there, but we were all naive 19-year-olds at the time, and no one really knew what to say to the guy. At the time, we were all surprised that he had nothing to do with Wax Trax (since the side projects were still coming out).
