The new Deftones and the new ISIS have both leaked on to the 'Net. I suggest both to pick up.
The new Deftones, Saturday Night Wrist, is quite possibly the best album they have ever done. It displays everything that they have been doing for years now. They float and shift between melodic, good Sacramento rock styles and Washngton thrash very easily. Chino is on queue and in fine form everwhere on the album and even mixes it up with a few guest singers (Serj Tankian and Annie Hardy for a few). Great addition to the catalogue.
The new ISIS is indeed wonderful also. The lyrics are more present than any other album they’ve made, and Mr Hydrahead does his customary job of sliding between harsh growls and gutteral gravel to his ever present diversive side where he sings with a strange harmony. The bass is just as present as it has always been but has been allowed to expand a bit more on this album and the drums are quick on the trot to keep you plodding well but the guitars on this album are where it is at. Wonderful soundscapes everywhere. Good stuff. I would rate this right up there with Oceanic but not quite as good as Panopticon. Still a great listen though.
Peace!
