It’s been a rough month or so, and far too long of a delay, but I just ordered this bitch not five minutes ago and am quivering in anticipation. My little X-Mas gift to myself.
I’m fuckin’ stoked.

I got mine awhile back and gave it a listen. I was really impressed. His vocals have gotten better. I’ll go more in depth once I’ve had time to digest more, but I am very excited about the record and it is easily better than anything Ministry’s done since the good half of Houses of the Mole’.
I’m surprised no one has mentioned that 2 of the songs are updated, cleaner (production-wise) versions of tracks from the first Pink Anvil album ‘Halloween Party’. The original versions had no vocals and were buried in static and sound effects (that’s not to say I didn’t like them).
I’ll go more into this later but I am amused that people who hated Pink Anvil and loved this record didn’t have the brain to see 2 of the songs were originally Anvil material.
I’ve been listening to it a lot, it was a slow grower but now I’ve really fallen for it. The comparison to a darker Foetus is actually rather accurate, it has a bit of an early cop shoot cop vibe to some of the heavy bits as well, I really like the use of electronics throughout. The slow building horns and keyboard samples sound great. Love the samples on the Perfect Pair pt 1. The only track I pretty consistantly skip is “Even This Day” which just doesn’t quite have the layers and oomph of the rest of the album. Really like the lyrics and his vocals as well, hope Paul considers taking this on the road sometime. I did notice that “A Blinging” sounded like an updated Pink Anvil track but not sure which other one on here originated from that album.

Or maybe we just like that material much better as actual songs.
Revok: I hadn’t really noticed this: “it has a bit of an early cop shoot cop vibe to some of the heavy bits as well” until you mentioned it, but I see it now that you mention it. Cop Shoot Cop had a lot of potential, but then just kind of faded out.
I like the samples on MySpace, good stuff. I decided to go with the digital download, which is still downloading at the moment. Looking forward to the whole thing…
EDIT: I’m really enjoying this album. The opening track is great. Paul should definitely put out more material like this. I can hear hints of LIG in a few of the songs. This would fit right in on Wax Trax, if they were still around.
The only thing I don’t like is the cheap-looking Arial Black font on the cover art. Regardless, solid release by Paul. Someone should tell him to stop by Prongs sometime and say hello.
1002
This thing came in today about noon or so. Three hours and three complete spins later, I am fully assured that this is indeed the best record of 2008, if not the whole Goddamned millenium.
Every aspect of this album is fucking perfect. Everything that made Lead Into Gold, Pink Anvil, USSA, and a good deal of Ministry great is present and in full form. Every track rips my soul to pieces and builds it anew. Each and every note and tone sends shivers down my spine, then caresses it like a mother would a child… then bludgeons it with a hammer.
Jesus H. Christ.
To say this album is great is selling it short. This album is everything I dreamed it would be, and then some. We’re talking exponentially, infinitely, unreasonably awesome in every concievable manner.
…
I said GODDAMN, man! [:)]
Highlights:
The Perfect Pair, Pt. II - Listen to this while staring at Paul’s face on the digipack. If you don’t have a religious experience, something is deeply wrong with you.
Lover’s Leap - This one REALLY got to me, for some reason. It’s probably the only song that makes me feel invincible and VERY uncomfortable at the same time.
Even This Day - I’ve always wanted to hear Barker split mic duties with a chick. I got my wish.
Holy Sugarwater - This one was my favorite on the Pink Anvil album, and very nice on “The Spoils” (a cut above this version, in my opinion), and GODDAMN, I love how fucking monstrous the opening is. Paul went completely Black Sabbath right there and I absolutely went wild.
If any of you fuckers haven’t listened to this yet, then you haven’t lived.
Get it.
Now.
A great enthusiasm for the debut of Flowering Blight, Icepick. I wont deny I’m drunk as I type. Just paid €3 to pass the hour as I wait for a bus. Ha.
I listened to FB again earlier as I made my way to town this afternoon. It is indeed a solid little gem. As I type there is some shitty J Pop music playing in this internet cafe. It is very sad and hilarious all at once.
Back to FB. ‘Lover’s Leap’ is a quality song. This to me is a little classic that will go undetected unless Paul lets it be known. ‘The Perfect Pair’ is a progressive classic. One of the finest numbers to be crafted by the big man.
Why ever did people refer to Al as “Big Al”?! Especially when Pauly B is at least 5" taller. How deceiving are those Dark Side promo pics that show Paul lower in height to Al, who is centred and Rey W to his right?
‘A Blinding’ is waiting to be experienced live. That pulse needs to be amplified… in a live setting damn it. P, I need some live drums.
If you only could hear the shit I am listening to right now. It’s beyond acceptable.
I remember Paul when I saw him last. 2003. He was to the left of that floating fat man, to the right of the guy who is into porn that features inbred hicks missing teeth. In hindsight I can’t but help think PB was just held back by that… situation. I don’t know if I’ll ever see PB in a live setting again but I’d fucking kill to see a live run through of ‘The Perfect Pair’.
Enough of my crap [crazy][laugh][cool][:P][crazy][shocked][shocked][shocked]
big al had the aid of photographers’ “props”–kinda like elevator shoes, but designed to accomodate all uh… statures.
he stood on a box.
Flowering Blight is a good album, but you all can stop slobbering all over Paul’s dick. He’s not going to marry you.
Wow awesome review by icepick or should i say Paul. teeheehee
you all can stop slobbering all over Paul’s dick.
That is an image I could have done without.

Doesn’t stop me from trying. [laugh]
I should so sig the hell out of this right here…
I really dug the cd. I agree about see the two ministry extremes when looking at this and the newer ministry releases. Saying that i prefer Flowering Blight. It seems more honest as opposed to the bush last two ministry records. Both RGB and TLS just seem like they were half assed. They both have moments where i think Al took time to craft certain songs to his taste but the majority just sounds like the band jamming and Al pressing record and giving a thumbs up while smoking and getting drunk.
I told you.

Wow…you need to buy some different records.

I thought ALL of Lead Into Gold, Pink Anvil & USSR was complete crap? Ministry on the other hand was all the more better with Paul. This new Blight record is nothing special though. I believe the reason alot of people here think it’s cool (apart from the fact they have a crappy record collection) is because for the most part Paul has released utter pish and this is a step up from utter pish…although it’s still just a step above a mediocre record in my opinion.
Sorry about sounding negative my friends but I thought it was time you were given a wake-up call.
Melvins rule.
Well, to each his own. For the record, though, this comes nowhere close to rocking as hard as DSOTS does, though.

That’s because DSOTS is the greatest record known to mankind.

Please share whatever it is y’all are smoking. DSOTS is at best good for being a beer coaster on my table.
