Fix The Movie Thread

I showed this dvd to Evil Dildo the other night - I do believe it gave him quite the fanboy erection…but I promised I wouldn’t tell anyone that!!

Oh wait…

YOU LIE!

I really enjoyed it. Wasn’t over the top, but was still as intense as I would have expected it to be. I mean, Al’s shooting smack left right and centre, there’s excursions to disrupt Klan rallies, David Yow’s dick, roast chickens getting fucked… but it all didn’t seem like it had been dressed up to the point of being wholly unbelievable it. It’s all there for everyone to see, and you can see why Al can get away with telling us his keyboard tech fucked an ostrich- because a lot of the time, shit like that actually happened, and it’s made all the more believable by seeing the people behind the stage act committing themselves to such behaviour.

Anyway… the way I looked at the main players…

Duane Buford- just a cool mofo. Glad to see him get a bit of the ol’ pussay…

Louis Svitek- seemed like your typical sort of stoner. Struck me more as a hippie than a metalhead. Hippie metalhead?

Zlatko Hukic- reminded me of a lot of Italian and Middle Eastern friends I have who are into heavy music. There’s a sort of knuckleheadedness about them, but they’re inquisitive. If it makes sense… they ‘try’ to think. The sort of guys who’ll give ‘A Brief History of Time a Read’, not really understand it, and spend days thinking about it and talking about it with friends so as to find an ‘answer’ to settle on. Then they’re happy. Not a bad thing though, their intentions are good. Gentle and well meaning, but I wouldn’t fuck with him.

Rey Washam- seemed a pretty level headed dude. I could imagine him being really intense, but with a sort of dry ‘go eat shit, kid’ sense of humour. Seems like the sort to be highly conscious of his ‘intensity’, and seems to be constantly keeping a lid on it.

Casey Chaos- sad. Seems like one of those dudes that’s had a lot of talent and the carrot’s been dangling torturously close in front of him, but he’s constantly missed it (SCUM and Amen were good fuckin bands). And that’s probably why he is the way he is.

Maynard- I don’t get all the Maynard bashing on the forum… is it serious? Eh, I probably shouldn’t ask. I always figured his stage act was just that- an act. Seems like a good dude that didn’t pretend to know everything.

Dave Navarro- A lot of people go hating on this guy, but I don’t think he’s a bad person at all. Seems very self obsessed, given he kept relating every story about Ministry back to himself, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be a nice guy.

Buzzo- I wasn’t surprised that he seemed like a bit of a know-all smart arse that gets off on people being made fools of all the time (we’re all guilty of it sometimes, but if that’s a constant thing, then… not really a great quality to have). I really do think that he’s like that to compensate for a lot of things… still, he makes awesome music, so whatever.

Ogre- Seemed like a genuinely nice fellow. Can’t think of anything more to say about him! Seemed like he still had a lot of respect for Al.

Reznor- Much the same, but you could tell by the way he referred to Ministry’s output in the past tense that he clearly doesn’t look at them, or Al, the same way he used to. Much like most fans, I suppose. Seemed a little intense and the sort of guy to take things more seriously than he needed to, but not to the point where you’d hate him. Unless you were in NIN.

annnnnddd…

PAUL BARKER- Just seemed like the quiet dude who keeps to himself most of the time, and probably bit his tongue more than he should have. Then again, would you have challenged Al and his personal paranoias? I could see Paul being the sort of person to outsmart anyone in an argument and let them think that they’ve ‘won’. Passive, pacifist and sort of pensive- not bad qualities at all. I guess you’d need to be whenever you’re around…

…AL JOURGENSEN- You’d love to party with him. But once the drinks run out, I could imagine him being a bit too much to deal with if you were sober. Seemed to vacillate between actually having something intelligent to say and being a complete doofus. It was hard to tell which was the act, sometimes. I guess that’s the thing with Al. You never know when he’s serious or not, or how he’s going to feel about something, or what he thinks of someone, etc etc. You’d be constantly walking on eggshells and unable to deal with that instability- being called an arsehole and punched in the face one minute, then being hugged the next. But, nonetheless, he’d always give you a story or 10 to tell. And really, he didn’t seem like a bad fella at all.

Urgh. I shouldn’t have spent so long writing that.

This is a small thing, but I’m pretty sure the quote on the back of the DVD is wrong (“They deserve us, so fuck em” by Lemmy). When I saw it I thought: “well what does that mean? Is he talking about Ministry or Motorhead? Is that supposed to sum up the movie? etc.” Well, I’m pretty sure that isn’t even what he says. It’s from a bit where he is talking about popularity. He mentions how Motorhead experienced some brief fame and widespread popularity around 1980 and that it went away and that’s probably good, etc. I’m pretty sure he says (when speaking about the broader popularity and the fickle nature of pop-fans) “they desert us, so fuck em.” which makes a lot more sense.

Anyways, that’s just a random thing. Not of any import at all.

I liked the movie, though, as with others, I wondered what the point was of the Korn guy and that other guy who drinks from the big pop bottle.

As someone also said above, when you see the smart-ish Al and the dumb Al you do wonder if the dumb one is a smart guy faking it or the smart one is a dumb guy faking it. Either could be possible I think.

I also wonder if he is as burned-out and non-functional now as he seems or if that too is an act designed to sell records to certain demographics (that dumb metal heads who like this simple re-hashed thrash with programmed drums and Sesame Street lyrics).

“SAXOOOOOOONIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!”

I’ve been meaning to mention this - did anyone else notice that in the end credits the song from Houses of the Mole (I think it’s “World,” but I don’t remember for sure) is credited as performed by Al Jourgensen instead of Ministry? I’m frankly a bit shocked Al allowed them to get away with that.

Maynard- I don’t get all the Maynard bashing on the forum… is it serious? Eh, I probably shouldn’t ask. I always figured his stage act was just that- an act. Seems like a good dude that didn’t pretend to know everything.

Most of the people here who do all the bashing don’t really get it either.

Dave Navarro- A lot of people go hating on this guy, but I don’t think he’s a bad person at all. Seems very self obsessed, given he kept relating every story about Ministry back to himself, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be a nice guy.

My ex partied with him once, about eight or nine years ago. Said he way waaay more intelligent than you would ever assume. Supposedly has a thing for cute cheerleader types too.

I’ve spoken to him before on a few occasions and he was always the friendliest and most approachable guy one could imagine. Not like his macho ego driven buddy, Mike Patton.

Wow. One of your boyfriends met Navarro and said he was smart. Well, I’m convinced. Did he also meet Maynard and tell you how awesome he was, because if he did I would have to completely change my entire opinion on the guy.

But what’s this juicy nugget? Navarro likes cute cheerleader types, huh? Wow! Imagine that! Someone call NBC News! This is a real earthshaker!

Finally watched Fix last night and thought it was pretty boring.

It was interesting here & there to see back stage antics but I couldn’t help but wish it was an indepth documentary about the history and progression of Ministry rather than the snapshot of 96 it was.

Oh well.

really? cus when i met Buzzo the first time he was a sweaty douche-bag. when i met him the second time he was a sweaty douche-bag as well. i had the option to meet him a second time, but instead i just loudly said that the melvins were the worst Nirvana cover band i ever saw. laughter was had by most in the room.

that said, i do actually like the melvins quite a bit.

and Evil Dildo, i like your character breakdown. i one time on this board gave a little explanation of my i feel bad for Al, it was around 2005 or something i think, but it basically boiled down to…

al and paul were very close and counted on each other for so many things that the other one could never do on their own, but like so many relationships built on mutually parasitic tendencies, it all had to end. when it did though, al (being the passionate one of the two) exploded, and like all jilted lovers he tried to re-write his past to say that he didnt need anyone else in his life, that he had always been alone, so being abandoned didnt matter. this constant push on his behalf to appeal to people comes from some HUGE self-loathing issues, and paul leaving must have broken his heart. this was the only person in his world who had followed him, stuck by him, helped him, and in many way (not to get toooo dramatic here) loved him. now without that safety net, he was left to try and stand up on his own.

paul has done NOTHING solo that holds a candle to even the boring ministry stuff, and al solo has done nothing as well.

i feel bad for al, because i can identify with part of this projected idea of him i have in my mind. this needy, hungry man who just wants so make the best art he can… i donno. al is tragic to me, and because of that i cant really bash on him as much as his last few years have made me want to.

i think smart al is an act, and i think dumb al is an act, i think in relALity, he has no idea who he really is, and now he is stuck playing a part just to feel acceptance.

fuck robbie smith, al is the true alpha depressed goth kid.

ReALity.

Million points for that.

Interestingly put, i’d never thought of it that way. I loved Flowering Blight, but other than that i’d agree with you totally.
