First Post

Hey all! Been a while since I’ve done any introductions and even longer since I’ve been a regular at any boards! I used to frequent usenet (alt.music.kmfdm) and post on boards everywhere and eventually found myself go into lurker mode because I found it less involving to just read for news and insights/opinions.

I’ve been lurking HERE for years. I find the posts here really entertaining. you all seem like a great bunch and I’ve discovered quite a bit of new music here too. I look forward to posting if you all don’t kick my ass outta here.

A bit about me. I reside in San Diego, fan of Ministry for the last 11 years. Was too young to catch the Fornicatour and hate myself for it, and didn’t really have any interest in seeing the trilogy tours. Read some of the setlists and didn’t think it would be worth my money. Makes me sound like a fairweather fan, but eh. Ministry’s music still means a lot to me and I hold just about everything by Luxa/Pan in very high regard.

Other favorites include Godflesh/Jesu, Swans, KMFDM, Zappa, Melvins, Neubauten, Husker Du and Neurosis. Open minded and able to find merit in even bands’ lesser releases, haha.

Toot welcomes you.

Toot likes your musical taste too!

Thanks Toot! Those are just a few bands I follow, I spend more money on CDs than food. Shameful.

I got family in san diego…but never know any decent record storesdown there when I’m visiting, what record stores do you go to down there? I used to go to off the record in Cresswood (is it? the gay community in san diego…?) but it’s long since closed down. Picked up a first pressing vinyl of die die my darling by the misfits and a misfits green evil live vinyl for stupid cheap!

Hi. Welcome to the board. Hope it works out for you.

BTW if you say you like any Ministry album beyond Dark Side Of The Spoon we will all hate you.

But seriously…

Speaking of new members, does anyone know what happened to evil dildo??

Welcome Nick, you’ll fit in here grand by the sounds of it. And Peligro is right; show any love for the Bush Trilogy and you’ll be firebombed! Nah, not really. This place is a bastion of tolerance compared to some other places.

Welcome.

Like most of those bands you mentioned.

Don’t worry - this board is pretty welcoming. It’s one of the FEW alternative music forums that doesn’t treat ‘noobs’ like dirt.

welcome dude.

thanks for signing up. always good to see people who lurk here finally take the plunge and post. we don’t bite!

speaking of where are they nows…I really miss jizzy :frowning:

have fun & welcome!

Welcome to the forum Nick!

I remember alt.music.kmfdm. Also, alt.music.ministry, rec.music.industrial, etc. etc.

Hillcrest is the place. They’ve got all the good ones. Thirsty Moon (run by members of local band Earthless) is one of the best, specializing in psych, experimental and all forms of “underground” metal. Also on that block is Record City. Friendly and knowledgable staff and I’ve found countless surprising and rare trade ins over there. The guy who runs that place seems to hate industrial/metal of any kind and marks anything in that genre a low price tag! Music Traders are only ok. Don’t really get all the GG Allin worship they have going at those places. Further up in Encinatas you’ve got Lous Records which is the closest thing to an Amoeba within a decent driving distance

Haha. I’ve liked Dark Side ever since it came out. Didn’t even really need to grow on me

I think we can squeeze on more in here, no problem. We’re all just going to have to take our pants off.

Welcome. If I ever leave Phoenix, I’m moving to San Diego, love that place.

Fournicatour was definitely the last great Ministry tour. Even though I’m a Houses fan, I was disappointed by the supporting tour, and the last two for that matter.

I’m a big Zappa fan, do you have the Baby Snakes DVD? The claymation bits are boring as hell (unless you’re on something, I’d imagine), but the live performances are jaw-dropping.

Do you like old/new RevCo as well?

Welcome and glad to see you talking instead of lurking

It’s safe to say you kick ass. Welcome aboard.

Incidentally, that phrase makes absolutely no sense in this context. Like Prongs is some kinda whaling vessel or something.

(In before the obligatory Piss Army joke.)

Ah yes hillcrest don’t know where I got “creswood” similar sounding I suppose… anyway thanks for the shops… I’ll run 'em by my sis before the next time I go down that way she’ll know exactly how to get there before I show up. Glad you’re here!

Almost ended up living in the Phoenix area, or around it. My general impression of that part of Arizona isn’t too positive, but that could be because I’m a spoiled socal sonovabitch. I bet your electric bills go high with all the AC you use in the summer, huh?

I rented the Baby Snakes DVD a couple of times and own the soundtrack (seems like an afterthought, they omitted a lot of good material from the film). Agreed on the performances being great and claymation sequences being too out there, but I think Zappa’s band was the best during the early to mid 70s with Murphy Brock, George Duke, Ruth Underwood and the godlike Don Preston. How I wish the Zappa estate would get their act together and release the Roxy DVD! The best document from that era out there is the You Cant Do That on Stage Anymore Vol 2 set. Renditions of classics like Dog Breath Variations, Idiot Bastard Son and Stinkfoot that destroy the originals.

Uhh, didn’t bother with Cocked and Loaded after hearing “Prune Tang” and reading uniformly negative reviews. It was at this time I started feeling alienated by the career moves Al was making so needless to say, I wasn’t too interested. Kinda curious about Sex-O Olympico, might pick it up if I see it under $5. With that said, I LOVE both BS & Q and Linger Fickin’ Good; the latter especially containing what I consider some of the finest blends of sound the Ministry camp at the time ever had to offer (why doesn’t anyone ever talk about “Creep”? that song will put me in a trance every single time).
