[#ffffff]Rush, Deep Purple[/#ffffff], Public Enemy and N.W.A. are among the group of first-time nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
They join returnees Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Randy Newman, Donna Summer and Kraftwerk among the 15 artists vying for entry.
Even in the iPod age, the list of nominees up for induction in 2013 is as eclectic as they come. Nominees differ wildly in sound, origin and influence, ranging from the enduring prog rock of Canadian trio Rush and Procul Harum to German proto-electronica act Kraftwerk, the disco of Chic and Summer to the New Orleans funk of The Meters and the blues of Albert King and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band.
Motown also is represented by first-ballot entries The Mavelettes.
Joel Peresman, President and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, acknowledged the extreme variety of this year’s nominee class in a Thursday news release.
“The definition of rock and roll' means different things to different people, but as broad as the classifications may be, they all share a common love of the music," Peresman said. "This year we again proudly put forth a fantastic array of groups and artists that span the entire genre that is
rock and roll.’”
A group of 600 artists, music historians and members of the industry will choose 2013’s inductees. They will be honored April 18 in Los Angeles.
It’s the sixth time on the ballot for Summer, but the first since her death in May at age 63. Chic is on the ballot for the seventh time since 2003.
What a joke.
Gay…
Unless a ROCK AND ROLL Hall of Fame has a giant statue of Lemmy on top of the building, inside the lobby, and in front of the entrance they have no idea what rock and roll even is and have no business even using the term let alone portraying themselves as some sort of experts.

I fully back this statement…
If I had a band that was supposed to get inducted into the R&R Hall Of Fame, I’d ditch the dumb jam session for corporate suits and baby boomer journalists and play a free show at a dive bar across town.
That’s rock and roll.
To date, the most Rock and Roll response to an induction was from AXL ROSE.
Like him or hate him (God knows I’ve goofed on his dumb ass for ages) you gotta respect this . . .
“I respectfully decline my induction as a member of Guns N’ Roses to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” Rose wrote in a long letter obtained by the L.A. Times. “I strongly request that I not be inducted in absentia and please know that no one is authorized nor may anyone be permitted to accept any induction for me or speak on my behalf. Neither former members, label representatives nor the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should imply whether directly, indirectly or by omission that I am included in any purported induction of ‘Guns N’ Roses.’”
the only good people on that list are Public Enemy, NWA, Donna Summer, and Krafterk…
…none who belong in the “rock and roll” hall of fame. (yes, I know, early Kraftwerk was “kraut-rock” or whatever)
Sex Pistols had it right. Awards ceremonies are a sham(e). Any entity asking you to pray for the priviledge of getting your ass kissed is a low down thing to do

Agreed,I loved Lydon’s note to the HoF…funny stuff…John Fruiscante from the Peppers is another one who said fuck that shit…
I actually meant to say “pay” instead of “pray”. They do honestly expect you to pay to sit at these awards per tables - I suppose if you’re egomaniacal enough you’ll go for it, like Geoff Tate, but I would cry foul if I were a rockstar having to pay to get an award.
Ridiculous.
Speaking of Goeff Tate,I saw an article about him and it had the tracklisting for his new album…there is a song on there called “The Way I Roll” hahahahahahahahahahaha…new meaning to the word douche…

Yo yo yo! Wassup, Bitchezz? That’s right, Dawg! I’m gettin’ all kinds of Silent Lucidity up in hurr! That’s just The Way I Roll!

Geoff Tate has a powerful voice, but i haven’t really liked anything else from him outside of this album.
