Fear Factory

So have any of you guys picked up Mechanize? It’s pretty rad! Most of the record seems be in the vein of Demanufacture and Obsolete. I never bought the last three albums they made but this one has some really awesome tracks. It has a lot more programming and synths than i can remember Obsolete and every before it having (excluding remixes).

well ryhs needed to do something with himself since that false icons cd he did for 13th planet… again I think prong is the only active band on that label right now

I think Mechanize is a really good metal album, albeit certainly too stupid for the resident malcontents of this board.

I listened to a bit of it (I think I have it on file). Is good for what it is, but my use for such an album would be limited.

The one track I heard was OK.
I might get a remix album of it, if they put one out.

I actually liked it alot. Real heavy, the time signatures were all over the place. Overall, I just thought it sounded good. To me, though, it’s more of a mix of Demanufacture, Soul of a New Machine, and with a dash of Obsolete. Just seems like they went into the studio and had a pretty clear conscious of what they were doing from beginning to end this time around. Some could probably say this one could certainly be the spiritual follow-up to Obsolete. Although, I do enjoy the Archetype album, and some of their Transgression album.

Any blatent godflesh rip offs on it? kinda like the whole “reach for the sky” part of revive off obsolute… which reminds me of track 1 i think of selfless/merciless

Not really, although I guess Designing The Enemy sounds a little bit like Godflesh/Jesu.

did you happen to get the deluxe or regular version? i know best buy has the regular for 7.99 this week

I got the regular version off of iTunes. Sucks, I had to download the artwork somewhere else. I might get the deluxe version for the rerecorded bonus songs sometime. If its at their merch booth I’m totally getting it.

I was listening to a replay of BCB and DC in the XM Liquid Metal studio. They played Powershifter and a few others. Meh.

I listened to a few tracks. Vocals are too clean for my taste during the screaming parts. Never was a huge fan of Fear Factory. I think mainly the yelling caveman vocals and not enough programming turn me off.

EDIT: Cool album art though and I definitely see their talent. The production on the drum is great too. The sound fucking awesome.

But overall not feeling (but don’t want to be totally negative cuz it’s not bad in the least)

Have not.

I like Demanufacture a lot. I was gonna pick up Remanufacture at Hastings for like a buck, but passed on it and got an MtG booster.

Yeah, I just lost all my Prongs cred, didn’t I.

Well being an old school fear factory fan (surprise?) I actually went out and got this at best buy yesterday since it was only like 8$ and I have a giftcard with some money on it… I didn’t get through the whole thing yet but it’s alright. It’s not gonna win anybody over, just a more of the same thing. But not in a bad way. The drums are out of control. The new guy really did a good job replacing ray. And he pretty much doesn’t do much different playing than ray would except for the odd roll down the toms here and there. FF drum wise, always was more or less just done with the snare cymbals and kick drum with the kick doing most of the beat changes. I wanted the deluxe edition but saw it was already out of print so i settled for the cheap regular version. Besides the deluxe only has a few rerecorded songs that I already had before.

Dunno. They kind of sound the same, but the new guy is a bit more aggressive, and beats the shit out of his drums. Same style though. But he certainly brought something new, or moreso renovated.

that’s basically what i was saying… he doesn’t really change the sound. which would make the band sound drastically different. I think basically if you were a fan before you’ll like this cd, but it won’t win over anybody new.
Have any of you guys gotten burton’s other new band city of the sun’s cd?
It’s too bad he didn’t do more with watchers. I really liked that cd alot. Even the cover of sounds of silence…

in the other thread somebody mentioned music to read to, well FF is just great for playing first person shooters like quake arena and digimortal really went well together. fast agressive music that’s unrelentless mixed well with the fast nonstop killing… god i miss the sega dreamcast. I still have mine, but it’s just a shame that it didn’t succeed as well as it could have. It had it’s share of stinker games, but the good ones were amazing.

Gene Hoglan - drums.

Exactly, I find it funny how people call Gene “the new guy” when he is actually a far better, more credible, talented and legendary drummer than Ray ever was.

haven’t had the chance to check this out yet, used to love FF. ot sure if i’m into metal like this anymore though. good to see some non crappy reviews.
