Favorite Whiskey

Man, I just had a rough day at work… our server crashed which put us back to the mid-20th century again (you know, just papers and pens etc). Very stressful to say the least…

But it’s ok now, just kicking back and relaxing with some “Bulleit Bourbon”. Yummy, yummy stuff. Lots of hints of honey without being too sweet. Comes in a bottle that looks like it came str8 outta the 1800’s, like something you’d see in pioneer days or something Al Swearinjen would be swigging on HBO’s “Deadwood” (WHY GOD DID THEY CANCEL THAT SHOW?!?!?) It’s a bargain at $25 a bottle, I like it better than Makers, which retails for much more.

That said I am a whiskey fan, here are some of my others:

Woodford Reserve - Delicious! Tastes like you are sucking honey liquor off of a wood barrell. A++

Makers Mark - slightly overrated but still a DAMN good drink. Not too sweet. Beats Jack Daniels by a longshot.

Jim Beam - “Choice” or “Black”… good stuff. Has a sweet taste that mixes well.

Jack Daniels - overpriced on brand name, Jack is still some good shit, especially “gentleman jack”, aged 8 yrs I think.

Evan Williams - If you must go cheap, EW black label is the ONLY way to go.

Irish Whiskey - Delectable. Bushmills or Jameson. Has a smokier flavor than American bourbons. Great for when you get tired of the Kentucky shite.

Fuck Canadian Whiskey - Black Velvet is the only decent one that comes to mind, and all Canadian whiskeys are blends, which means it’s half true whiskey and half everclear, basically. Low on flavor, for pussies that can’t handle the bite of a real whiskey.

Scotch Whiskey… now thats another conversation altogether…

My favorite remains Bulleit http://www.bulleitbourbon.com
As good or better than most $40 bottles for only $25. Drink up!!!

I keep Jim Beam Black around the house for my everyday bourbon. For about $22 a bottle, you just can’t beat it.

Wild Turkey Rare Breed, Old Rip Van Winkle Family Reserve and Woodford Reserve also faves.

Booker’s and Baker’s are overpriced, but still good whiskeys.

Went on the Bourbon Trail Tour down in Kentucky a couple of years ago and hit the JB, Maker’s Mark, Heaven Hill distilleries. Also attended an event sponsored by Evan Williams. EW holds a tasting every year of their 10yo Single Barrel. It was fantastic.

Stopped at a liquor store in Bardstown that had every conceivable kind of bourbon. My buddies and I dropped about $500 in there and carted out boxes to bring back to Chicago.

Sadly…it’s about all gone now.

I like Johnnie Walker myself. Which label I pick up depends on my cash flow situation. I try to steer clear of dark liquor nowadays though. I always wake up without knowing when/how I went to bed, and I’m always nursing some new bruises. I tend to drink too much of whatever it is I’m drinking that night.

Nice choice for the table whiskey!

Never tried the “Rare Breed”. the original Wild Turkey is just too harsh for me. (I know, I’m a pussy…gosh!) Never even heard of the Old Van Rip… I’ll give it a shot if I see it!

Never had those either, guess I must still be a rookie.

Sounds killer. Never did any of the tasting stuff myself. Some people swear that Evan Williams is better than Jack Daniels. Never had their top of the line, but I bet it’s beyond decent!

Food is meant to be eat, liquor is meant to be drinken!

I like me whiskey, though I am by no means a connoisseur. I have yet to find a whiskey nicer than Jameson; its my old reliable to get me going (or keep me going, or fuck me up) Its good anyway you have it: straight, diluted, hot, cold, in a mix, whatever.
Never felt any love for JD, its too sweet or something. Frankly Jameson pisses on JD.

Alright Whisky/Whiskey/Bourbon folks on the board!

Oh man…We don´t get enough bourbon brands here in Sweden. Interesting thread to stumble upon, just had a traditional Jack Daniel´s a moment ago after a hard day´s work so i can relate to the feeling pretty well.

One personal Whisky favourite is 10yr old Ardbeg Scotch Whisky - great caramel taste but with good f-in punch. Ardbeg´s apparently been proclaimed The Worlds Best Whisky in Jim Murray´s 2008 Whisky Bible. Don´t know Jim but everyone should try an Ardbeg!

BTW… passed through Heathrow airport, UK a while ago and found a Lagavoulin Single Malt from 1937 at the tax free store at a fair price of about 15000$
…I didn´t buy it… found a fabulous Au De Toliette…and a great book…Of course, no garanty of good taste after so many years… [;)]

I pretty much like any whiskey cut with water. Except Wild Turkey!!! My grandfather used to drink that brand on holidays. He used to buy the bottles that were shaped like turkeys!! While I haven’t tried the Wild turkey out of those bottles (Dont even know if they still make it) I have tried the just the normal brown label wild turkey and I gotta say I don’t have taste for it. Right now I’d say JD and Makers are pretty good! although they taste pretty close to the same!

I like Johnnie Walker myself. Which label I pick up depends on my cash flow situation.

I would disagree with you there, I think JW is an overrated brand name. The taste always reminds me of bacon, and although I love my pork products I would much prefer a Chivas Regal.

Good call. although waking up with bruises not knowing where you are can sometimes indicate you’ve had a good evening, it can lead to much embarrassment and regret!

JW specializes in blended whiskeys and it wasn’t until they’d been in business for over 50 years that they even bought interest in a distillery. A typical bottle of premium JW is a blend of 15 different whiskeys, most of which JW didn’t produce themselves.

I prefer a nice single barrel bourbon. Or at the very least, a small batch (15 barrels or less) bourbon.

Oh fuck yeah! But that is some spendy shit!

Wild Turkey Rare Breed

You’re a man after my own heart, that has to be my favourite.
I can’t stand JB, any kind, woke up with an empty bottle of it and an empty bottle of

Not one of my finest moments I must say.
If I’m running out of options JD would be a choice, and then somewhere along the line, JW. But JW to me is a harlots drink.

Never noticed the bacon flavor. However if there were a bacon flavored whiskey (or cereal, flavored water, chicken…) I would have to try it out.

You may be right on the whiskey, 9x/10 if I’m drinking liquor it’s vodka. Other than that I usually just stick with beer.

i prefer gentleman jack. its pretty much all i drink.

Jura!

failing that, Jameson or Bushmills
though I hardly touch the stuff now, just a couple at breakfast
and a half bottle after dinner, for my nerves

Fuck Canadian Whiskey

blasphemy.

I’m more of a beer drinker myself, but some CC is good every now and again.

I’m also partial to gin…

And to Southern Comfort…

And Absinthe…

The smell of Scotch makes me want to puke though.

It’s possible to get a bottle of single barrel for $30-35. Woodford’s for example.

WT Rare Breed is small batch and it’s about $35. And worth every dime.

My drink of choice has always been Johnny Walker Black label. Love it. So smooth. I take that over any alcoholic drink. On the rocks. Hmm gonna pour one now

ho ho hooooo!!! you just sold me good sir. I will be trying this brand!! mmmmmmmmm liquid bacon.

Old Crow.

It’s what Principal McVicker drinks on the Beavis and Butthead show.

Low price point and tastes like shit - but man, it’ll fuck you up proper.

Fuckin’ A. [cool]

I’d take straight jack

but i’m more of a crown and coke man myself…
