The Mind Tour - 2/3/90, Ventura Theatre w/KMFDM
Why: The energy of the show was unreal, and getting to hear Pailhead, RevCo, Skinny Puppy, and P.I.L. made it extra special. KMFDM was solid, I was just discovering them through Wax Trax. I remember being happy they played “More & Faster”, which was in heavy rotation for me at the time.

It depends on how I evaluate “favorite” show. I’ll keep any backstage stuff, pre-parties, or any other such stuff separate, though and make my pick solely on stage performance and the show package. For me the best “show” was the DSOTS gig they did in Hollywood. It was either 1998 or 1999. I’ll check and see if I can find a setlist.

Been over 15 years, but that seems like a rather short list, to be honest. I would swear it was longer. Anyway, I remember Al looking so messed up and demonic. And Mikey was on fire! The whole band played their balls off and there was just a really sticky vibe in the air of dark decay and debauchery. It was really really cool.
I saw them a few times throughout the 90s and loved every show …but I have to say,I especially loved the gig I saw in Boyton Beach on the Animsoitisomina tour…I loved the setlist and the whole vibe…Al seemed to have this renewed sense of urgency and it was just an exciting, high energy show…and it was in a nightclub in a lonely strip mall that was previously a grocery store…that whole night was great all around…perfect gig, loved everything about it

The SF show on that tour was supposed to be my first Ministry show, but the dude that was supposed to set up the ride flaked on me. Instead, I would wait 5 years for C-U-LaTour and we all know how that went…
For me, it’s the Detroit 1982 show.
Revenge
Same Old Madness
Never Asked For Nothing
Effigy
Love Change
What Is The Reason
Work For Love
Cold Life
America
Overkill
Not only does this have several unreleased tracks, but the live sound of these tracks is awesome. I wish With Sympathy sounded more like this.
^
Maybe I should have asked what the intent of the question was. I thought it was asking for our favorite show that we attended.
If it’s about favorite live album or DVD or something, well, I’ll put “In Case You Didn’t Feel Like Showing Up” at the very top and then in close runner-up position is that Omaha (sometimes labeled as Dallas, I think) bootleg that’s been pressed a million times and has “No Bunny” and “Smothered Hope” on it.
^That version of Smothered Hope rules! Disappointed to find out it wasn’t on the “Burning Inside” single…

It’s really great. I only have the bootleg recordings of it, but it’s phenomenal and way better than the Puppy studio releases of it.

Detroit 1982!? That’s amazing. Do you remember the setlist or did you have it written down somewhere? [:/]
For me it’s the Paramount Theatre in Seattle 1999. I was working for a design company in Washington at that time in my life, lived about 45 minutes out of the city centre. Ministry I think was the first gig I saw after I moved there.
I went alone because I didn’t know too many people in town then. I remember it being a warm, balmy night. The crowd wasn’t huge but they were wound up. The show itself was very Filth Pig heavy which made me happy. Reload was worth the price of admission alone. The stage was bathed in red light and from where I was standing you could barely see Al, but his voice was booming and croaking and echoing all over the theatre. It was pretty insane.
I almost got the chance to see them in London during the Filth Pig tour which I could kick myself for missing out.
My impulse is to say '92, since it was the first time I saw them and obviously that was an amazing experience.
But really, the “final” shows of the C-U-LaTour in Chicago was probably the best time I’ve ever had. We saw the LA show, and decided to fly out for the final dates. Our first time in Chicago. The crowd was so nuts. (Not like lame LA shows where everybody just stands there) Got invited to the after party, and got shit faced with all the bands. Such a great night.
Probably 16/12/1988 at the Ritz. Too bad it’s incomplete.

I have a recording of the show, so I have the tracklist on hand. [cool]
You can also listen to it on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0jhLscqh28&list=PL26EA2EC4FA687A84

Chicago sounds like a better place to see them, but your gripe about the
LA crowd just standing there sounds like what I saw from the Retrospectacle footage. And I’m sure there weren’t any white trash neo nazi lookin motherfuckers in Chicago either like at SF…
It is close between 92 at the Universal Amphitheater or 96 at the Palladium but the edge goes to 92. They tear through those first four songs and then a nice lil’ slowdown (if you can call it that) to Psalm 69. It was two nights, I went to the Sunday show and I’m pretty sure they finished with Breathe that night adding more awesome points.
96 was fun but hard to remember due to chemical cocktails and I know 99 would’ve been my vote if I had any recollection of what occurred on stage; stupid Palladium Denny’s.

I went to one of those Universal gigs! (I’m guessing it was the Saturday one.) I think it was December 26, actually. It was absolutely perfect. We were high as kites and outside before the set there was the Miami Vice stunt show going on and crazy explosions and pyrotechnics going off so we were just in a total destruction mode.
The set (I don’t remember a bunch of specifics) was just devastating (I remember “Scarecrow” just being the heaviest thing I’ve ever heard live) and after the gig my buddy and I completely terrorized the Holiday Inn we were staying at.

There was plenty of dancing at the Retrospectacle, but none of the bands necessarily warranted a pit. In LA, only the heaviest bands get them. Otherwise, it’s people standing around worried how they look. Depending on how much beer I’ve drunk, I am often the pit instigator.
I see i should of said live bootleg show . sorry guys.
