Favorite Album Ever?

The Secret Machines - Now Here is Nowhere

A guide to sucking Trent Reznor’s cock - AKA The Downward Spiral, wait that’s not it.

Undertow - Tool

A lot of what I listen to now is recent enough that I’d feel cheating if I called it favorite ever, I have no idea if I’ll still listen to it in five years. My music taste is pretty transitory.

Maybe the “Aguirre” soundtrack by Popl Vuh. I’ve listened to the track “Aguirre III” probably more than any other piece of music. Problem is, the rest of the album’s fine but nowhere near as amazing. The first Neu! album is pretty awesome too as is Michael Nyman’s “Drowning by Numbers”.

Aceyalone “Book Of Human Language”

I like your reasoning to this. I think the oldest album I have that still gets played on a some what regular basis would have to be Guns N’ Roses Appetite For Destruction… so there you go… GN’R

Guns N’ Roses Appetite For Destruction

Quite possibly the worst album on the face of the planet. If someone starts up a “Your Worst Album Ever” thread…that’d be mine!

commencement [2001] by deadsy.

honestly no album has ever moved me liek this one.
after that, i’d say reality by bowie, in utero by nirvana, rain doga by tom waits, and then river runs red by LOA

I’m starting one up tomorrow.

And yes, ‘Appetite…’ will be on there.

Excellent choices, people.

I just noticed you didn’t list YOUR favorite album of all time! C’mon now, fess up…

(sigh)… I know. I didn’t realize how difficult it was going to be to decide. I was tempted to just blurt out “AGE OF REASON FTW,” but then I sat down and thought about it. I hold so many albums precious. So many of them have affected my life and given me some degree of clarity in some odd, warped way. True, Lead Into Gold is DEFINITELY up there for me, as are “Twitch” and “DSOTS,” but so are other things like Type O Negative’s “Slow, Deep & Hard,” Skinny Puppy’s “Bites,” Paradise Lost’s “Shades of God,” KMFDM’s “WDYKD,” Download’s “Eyes of Stanley Pain,” Black Sabbath’s “Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath,” Pigface’s “Washingmachine Mouth,” Leaether Strip’s “Penetrate the Satanic Citizen/Fit For Flogging,” The March Violets’ "Botanic Verses, Dessau’s self-titled, etc., etc., etc., and so many MANY more.

So I said to myself, “What’s the one record you find yourself listening to the most? What disc can you play anytime, anywhere that NEVER gets old?”

The answer is (somewhat embarrasingly)…
En Esch: “Cheesy” [left]Though the record is just as cheesy and trashy as the title implies, I can’t think of any other I’ve spun more.[/left]

The closest I can come to doing something non-plural is to pigeon hole things into categories some.
That said, any given one of these could be my favorite album depending on the angle approached:

Favorite EDM album:
Prototype 909 - Transistor Rhythm

Favorite “Metal” album:
Ministry - Psalm 69

Favorite Industrial Dance album:
Front 242 - Up Evil

Favorite Alternate/Indie Rock album:
Mono - You Are There

Favorite Hip Hop album:
Digable Planets - Reachin

I dunno…
I could go on all day in this fashion I suppose

ZZZZzzzzzZZZZZZzzzzzz that along with G’n’R album will be in my “Crappiest” top 10.

Another of the top albums ever…

SWANS “FILTH”!!![mad][mad][mad]

GODFLESH “US AND THEM”!!![mad][mad][mad]

SCHOOLLY D “SATURDAY NIGHT”!!![mad][mad][mad]

Hmm… obviously it changes from time to time, but if I could make an average from out of the past 5 years… I’d probably say I get more pure pleasure out of Belle & Sebastian’s “If You’re Feeling Sinister” than anything else.
That makes me completely gay here, doesn’t it? Let me switch then… “Total Sex” from Whitehouse. Now I’m a man, and very cool.

“Boy with the Arab Strap” is pretty high up there for me. In fact your email inspired me to put it back on. I’ve continued to listen to that one with some regularity and get great joy out of it.

Eno’s “Here Come the Warm Jets”, Devo’s “Are we Not Men” and Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” also get regular listens over the years. Is the first MIA too new to count? Honestly “Twitch” would be up there too - it’s a great album.

I think that album as a whole is decent, but not amazing. However, “Sleep the Clock Around” may be my favorite song of theirs.

“Arab Strap” was the first album by them I spent any time with. I listened to it constantly over one of the better summers of my life which has, no doubt, something to do with my love for it. Honestly I feel about “Sinister” in a similar way as you do about “Boy”. The long distance runner track on “Sinister” is utterly brilliant.

[reply]The Downward Spiral.

More than just a collection of songs, more than just music…

Hi Trent!! Way to plug yr material!!

Oh dear…[/reply]
Hello Devine!

How’s tricks?

Pink Floyd - The Wall. Listened to it relentlessly in high school. Still find myself reaching for it more often than not, despite its flaws…
