Fantastic Album 100% Free Download

My good friend Costa and his band, Dead Sea Choir make beautiful, experimental, electronic music. He is without a doubt a highly gifted singer, songwriter and producer. They are now releasing their entire first album free on their website. I’m not completely sure why, b/c he’s told me that it’s been selling really well. I guess I will ask him later this week. Regardless, you would be missing out by not taking advantage of this. I bought this disc at their cd release party a good six months ago, and I’ve yet to take it out of my car cd player (it’s 6 disc, to be fair though). The artwork is great too. Costa has sent me some of their new demos, and they also sound great, but unfortunately, I can’t share them here. Anyway, here is what was posted on their myspace:

1 album.
3+ years of recording.
11 songs.
64 minutes of music.
32 pages of digital art.

Free.

We can’t buy you all gifts.
We’re broke.

We can’t look you all in the eyes.
You’re ubiquitous.

This is our way of thanking you, Tulsa, and abroad,
for supporting us over the years.

For those of you who already have the album,
then we hope you download and enjoy the digital rendering of our art.

For those of you who don’t…

Album review on absolutepunk.net here:

Cool, thanks for the link, am downloading it now.

That review makes it sound promising, esp. if it gets compared to Radiohead & Mogwai (though not Coldplay, who suck balls).

Anybody check this out other than Mick? It’s FREE. It’s a great album. Mick, what did you think? I hope people don’t think I’m trying to promote a friend’s album, bc I wouldn’t have posted had they not made it available for free. It’s been out since late last year.

Heavily inspired by Radiohead and Interpol.

I’m downloading now also, so i’ll definitely give it a listen or two when it’s done and give an opinion.

I’ve spun it a number of times and its impressive

If the listener was none the wiser you would easily think some of the songs were Radiohead (esp. the 2nd track). A stand out track is ‘430’, an epic of sorts. I’m a sucker for songs 10mins+ that have their heavy moments.

This album was, if I’ve got it correctly, made by one dude who’s only 24 in his basement or something? That is amazing really because this stands up with most polished studio albums of the same ilk. Costa is obviously very talented and if he wishes to continue with this I would say he’s sorted. He will probably face accusations of plagiarism (Radiohead) but I think he does enough to make it his own. Some of the drumming I like too. I would prefer a bit more variety in electronics and tempo and there are some changes within songs that are not smooth but this is buttons really. It’s a mighty effort and probably the best new album I’ve heard this year.

I’ll be listening to this again and would be interested to hear whatever else he makes.

I’ll attempt to give it a whirl… if the asshole next door keeps his wireless on long enough.

Downloaded and on one of my iPods. I will listen as I drive back home from Florida tomorrow.

Kind of reminds me of Kid A/Amnesiac A LOT. I’ve only heard it a couple of times, but it sounded cool.
