It appears to be genuine. Though I dont find them too disparate from each other I never thought they would work together (though the role of ‘executive producer’ doesnt mean shit really). The film sounds fairly cool all the same.
Im a big fan of both of them, but maybe Herzog moreso. Ive yet to see a bad Herzog film (and ive seen around 15 of them).
On a much more bizarre note Herzog is also remaking ‘Bad Lieutenant’ with Nicholas Cage taking Harvey Keitel’s role… this is easily the strangest thing Herzog has been involved in to date. Nic Cage, despite a number of acceptable roles namely ‘Leaving Las Vegas’ and ‘Adaptation’, he is rather woeful. Him and those responsible for the remake of ‘The Wicker Man’ should have been vaporized. But then again it is a wealthy source of unintentional comedy.
i like both directors. lynch more so.
the combo could be what the stupid film industry needs now.
that said, i don’t want to see yet another remake of anything. bad lieutenant was bearable, in a crappy, camp, yeah i’ll see harvey keitel in anything way.
i guess there’s still the sentiment to milk and milk. and forget that human beings wrote the original stories.
screw that.
david lynch’s "weather reports " on radio m-f in LA are pretty hilarious.

Herzog is a fucking numpty for attempting to remake that film…he’s an even BIGGER numpty for getting Cage to play the lead…what a couple of fuckin ball-bags!
I can just picture Cage trying to do the “show me how you suck a guys cock” scene…they’ll probably replace the kick ass Schoolly D “Signifying Rapper” song in the film with a Puff Daddy one…Herzog SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS for for this outrage!
‘Even Dwarves Started Small’ is one of the most messed up head fuck films of all time - right up there with ‘The Holy Mountain’ by Jodorowsky. It is the film equivalent of a Nurse With Wound album.
Lynch is great too - although he has had his fair share of duds. ‘Inland Empire’ was incredible - even if I STILL can’t get my head around it (which is a complement by the way).
‘Dwarfs’ would easily be one of my favourite films. Its one of the most interesting and funny films ive seen by Werner. Some of the lines are brilliant e.g. “All the chicken’s have bald asses”. The best vignettes are the ones with the 2 blind inmates, Azucar and Chicklets, and when they crucify the monkey and send the car into the well. Theres something very tragic about it too but its subtle, not melodramatic fuckery that you get elsewhere.
I would recommend people who have not seen Herzog work to invest in the 2 box sets of his work: one includes ‘Dwarfs’, ‘Stroszek’ (the film Ian Curtis from Joy Division killed himself after watching), ‘Heart of Glass’, ‘Fata Morgana’ (thats one for the stoners and Leonard Cohen fans) and ‘The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser’. The other box set is a collection of Werner’s work with Klaus Kinski which is also amazing (particularly ‘Aguirre’) but you have to able to tolerate Kinski to watch them all.
INLAND EMPIRE I thought was great, was cool seeing it in a good theatre with a quality sound system. Great soundtrack too.
Love, love Lynch and know Herzog by name but not as an artist…
Is there going to be some co-directing? That would be truly wicked! Two HUGE director names… how to balance these egos…
As far as I can tell Werner wrote and will direct the film, so essentially its his film. Lynch is executive producer which may not mean much at all, they usually get big names to act as executive producers for films. Directors often feature as exective producers for other directors work e.g. Michael Mann does a bit for Martin Scorsese, Ridley Scott was exec prod. for ‘Assassination of Jesse James…’
I believe Lynch is also going to be exec producer for Alejandro Jodorowski’s new film ‘King Shot’ which is due to feature Marilyn Manson and Asia Argento among others.
“Aguirre” and “Inland Empire” are two of my favorite movies. That said, I can’t imagine either director playing terribly well with others in terms of co-directing so I’ll be interested to discover the extent of the collaboration.

Exciting news! I always felt Lynch should executive produce more films, maybe he is just now getting to the point financially where he can afford to do so. “Crumb” was magnificent and "Nadja was an interesting little indie vampire flick.
That makes me VERY happy to hear another Jodorowsky directed movie will see the light of day! It’s too bad he’s had such a hard time raising money over the years to shoot his films, but it was cool we got some good graphic novels out of him.
Not sure I like this idea of remaking “bad lieutenant” though… I never thought it was that great to begin with. Yeah, it’s fun to watch Harvey Keitel act psychotic, but I never found the overall story to be that profound; seems to thrive on shock value overall.
Oh, and I just wanted to say… Thanks for the film suggestions gentlemen.
I believe new Jodo when I see new Jodo. Should it happen for sure, few new movies would make me more excited.
Yeah, he’s supposedly had several films that were “in production” over the years that never saw the light of day.
There is an entry for it on IMDB listing David Lynch as the executive producer, however IMDB has been known to not always be the most dependable source of information, especially when it come to their data on projects that are not even in their production stages.
Please let this be true! If Lynch hooks him up wit da scrilla then why wouldn’t he be able to get his film made?
A Lynch/Herzog combniation sounds intriguing, agreed though I can’t imagine them sharing directing duties. The story certainly sounds interesting. Loved Inland Empire (don’t fully understand it and don’t think it’s meant to be) and I’m very excited to see where Lynch goes from there.
New Jodo would be wonderful but I’ve been rather skeptical as nearly two decades have passed since Santa Sangre and it seems he has a new project starting up every year that gets chucked into the void. I did see some storyboards for the “Son’s of El Toro” or “King Shot” or whatever the new project is called and they look spectacular. That would be great if Lynch was attached producing wise as well. Still, I’m really hoping, if this thing gets made, that Manson does not end up in the starring role. I just don’t think I could totally throw myself into the film with that guy on screen in every frame, it would be difficult to detatch myself and see him as a totally unique character in the film instead of Marilyn Manson (unless of course Jodo is going for some message about fame and what not with this project).
Supposedly much of the film is like this, featuring protracted scenes of the actors staring at the camera. Did anyone else have an urge to push the dwarf off the stump at the start of the clip?
