Fan re-masters of Psalm 69 and Filth Pig

Scroll down a little ways. I can’t tell the difference as far as 16 bit or 24 bit. Listening to Filth Pig now - guy’s done a good job, but without the original disc on hand right now I can’t tell how well he improved it.

Anyone else? What do you all think?

unless the guy started with a 24bit 96khz source there’s little point in this samplerate/bit depth.

…although, thinking about it, I suppose there might be some benefit if he had access to something like a Massive Passive which could add extra harmonic content… but I doubt this is the case.

also, i never heard any ‘fan remaster’ which just takes original cd source and then starts eq’ing it and runs some audio plugins/whatever over it that sounded better… it just sounds a bit different, that’s it.

something that just occured to me - he will almost certainly be ‘remastering’ an already mastered copy. He’s not going to be able to undo any compression/limiting/eq/whatever that’s already been done. he may be able to boost the bass or something, but he’s pretty much going to be limited to whatever you could do with your eq on a stereo at home. so what’s the point?

I don’t get the point either. Unless you’ve got access to the original tapes, there’s not much reason to do this. I guess you could loudness-war them by limiting/compressing, but that would be particularly stupid.
