Does this mean AmeriKKKant will be out by mid-October?
When I pre-ordered on Pledgemusic, it said September release.

Gonna try to hit the MA date; it’s close by, and I love Death Grips too. Weird combination but it works.
Incidentally, the biggest-by-far Death Grips fanboy I know absolutely loathes Ministry; He hadn’t ever heard of them before meeting me, and since he’s a college-radio DJ with a high opinion of his own musical taste and knowledge, he treats them like some no-name nobodies who’ve never accomplished anything and that nobody’s ever listened to except me. The only ‘industrial’ band he’ll have anything to do with is Rammstein, and he’s one of those indie guys who’s usually too good for metal unless it’s some kind of hipster-blog-approved -core crossover thing like Converge or Dillinger Escape Plan, so he shits on Ministry every time the name comes up and is a dick about how me liking them reflects my music taste. He’s also completely set on and desperate about going to Death Grips the next opportunity he gets because his attempts keep falling through (and they keep ‘breaking up’ every album - say, they’re not too different from Ministry the more I think about it). So I kind of relish the thought of him finally having his chance to see one of his all-time favorite groups that he’s waited years to go see, but having to fork over to see Ministry for that chance. If only it weren’t a co-headliner and Death Grips were just the openers to add insult to injury.

Wow, peligro made it sound like he was at full on professional radio station, not some rinky dink hamm operator’s school station. [:)][:P][laugh]
Co-headliners? I’m pretty sure Death Grips is the opening band. I’m not a good gauge of what’s popular nowadays, but I can’t see that they’d be more of, or even close to the draw of Ministry.
Anyway, I’ll be drinking beer in the parking lot anyway.
The only way this could go completely and perfectly full-circle is if Death Grips breaks up before the tour two days before the first date. Epic comedy.
Hey, they did it to NIN - might as well do it to Ministry.

I keep hearing either one thing or the other. If they are co-headlining, even though I don’t think that’s how it ‘should’ be, I can completely understand why. I’ve honestly never met a single person under the age of 30 who’s heard of Ministry, whereas Death Grips is hot shit with that demographic and everyone in that age range I talk to is into them or at least vaguely familiar with them. I guess it would be good from a promotion standpoint
Every now and then I wander into a Hot Topic and I see dozens of t-shirts for bands I’ve never heard of. Based on the font styles their mostly metal. Now I know more about what’s going on in contemporary non-top 40 music than most 42 year olds, but there’s still this whole subsurface of shit I’ve got no clue about it. Sounds like Death Grips is probably one of these.

Do you think that’s going to happen? I think it’s odd that we don’t have a public release date for an album that’s supposedly only a month away.

To confound matters they recently cancelled their AUS/NZ tour with Filter. No idea why.
I’ve not gotten any updates via PledgeMusic or anything, so who knows?
Even Sin doesn’t know the release date.
The new record is done. And were going back out on the road we have a US tour that starts mid-October to mid-November. First I heard the record is going to be out in October, but now Im not sure if it will be out in October or if it will be out in early 2018, but the record is done. Its already mastered, and its ready to go, but Ive heard a couple of different things from management on when it will be released because there is a whole label thing that theyre dealing with right now. But then we start all over again in 2018 well get another world tour happening, so were still busy.
I thought the whole point of PledgeMusic was to self release and avoid label entanglements?
Why don’t they release it through Cleopatra? Do they really need a larger label backing this late in the game? Not to be negative, but I think the number of sales goes down significantly with each album they put out, they seem more like a novelty act than one that’s still popular and selling tons of albums. Unless I’m that out of touch, which is possible.
I feel there’s a distinct possibility that they’re going to sit on this long enough that Trump will be dead or deposed by the time it comes out, which probably won’t be great for the relevance of the songwriting.
Never heard of Death Grips until now. Checked it out. NOT impressed. Anyone who prefers this over Ministry should be politely informed that they have wrong taste in music & that opinons can be wrong
Is anyone here going to the Philly Show?
Anyone going to the Columbus show on Tuesday?
Columbus show was pretty awesome. Death Grips opened. They had a cool laser show, but they were absolutely terrible. The venue was packed in the beginning and the younger crowd filtered out in between sets.
(spoiler alert)
Ministry played a very good mix of tracks ranging from 1989-2017. They played Thieves and So What back to back. Also a cool version of NWO with a slow melodic section in the middle of the song. The first encore was Psalm 69 and Filth Pig, second encore was Gates of Steel. Visuals were cool as well, mostly focusing on Trump (no surprise there).
This was my first time seeing them since 2003, Al was was very much with the program and gave a great performance. He called us “a frisky bunch” and overall had a great attitude and performance energy.
I went to the Kansas City show last night. Venue was probably 80% full. Death Grips put on a frenetic set that was a sort of endurance challenge. The crowd loved it. A good portion of the floor crowd bailed after their set.
The sound was god awful for Ministry. And to my unpleasant surprise, they had a DJ on stage with them. DJ swamp worked as a pseudo keyboardist. In my opinion it didnt work. And we got a small set from him to close out which was one of the dumbest things Ive seen. I wont spoil it for those that still havent attended the shows.
Al seemed to have good energy and looked good. The crowd was into it (but not as much as they were with Death Grips) and the band seemed fired up. The show just seemed to be lacking for some reason. This is the 4th time Ive seen Ministry, and I walked away with an apathetic feeling. Im not sure what it was, but it just wasnt a real good show overall. Maybe it was the awful sound, the stupid DJ Scratching during some of my all time favorite tunes, or that the crowd never regained the intensity they had with Death Grips. Curious if some of you felt the same way.
Super late show review. I was at the NYC gig at Terminal 5.
I enjoyed the show. Ministry felt very traditional and outdated though after Death Grips, which felt more cutting edge and again there was a ton of kids moshing. That being said they have very few songs that I find memorable or enjoyable. But I recognize their talent.
I felt the huge disconnect between the old era of Alternative and the current, where it seems like rock is just flat dead and Rap has infiltrated all aspects of everything relevant.
Death Grips had a big throbbing jumping pit. Ministry had the oldschool circle pit with shirtless beer belly guys getting their aggression out.
Some of the Death Grips fans stayed and were swayed, to some degree, but the sing along slogans of Uncle Al just felt kind of hokey in comparison…especially the new stuff like “Antifa” it was like “ARE YOU READY TO REBEL KIDS?!”
To a generation that is so wary of advertisements of any kind the chanting hooks of Ministry felt very P.T. Barnum with fake dreads…
Again, Death Grips going before made me super conscious of these things and cast Ministry in a worse light than when I saw them mere months before at Riotfest and really enjoyed their set.
They played a Devo cover which was cool and interesting. Would’ve been at home on Cover Up or something but was pretty synthy which was nice…
The DJ ending was confusing and strange, but interesting visually. It was just an odd way to end things. Are we promoting Surgical Meth Machine? Are they going to do songs from that now? I was left confused and bewildered, as were most around us seemingly.
Was the DJ Ministry’s attempt to be hip and connect with the Death Grips fans? Felt a bit like that…but it sure didn’t work.
The big blow up stage decorations were cute, and Al did look in great health/spirits.
We didn’t get “Filth Pig” sadly but we got “Bad Blood” and the other classics.
Overall a mixed bag but definitely enjoyable.
I was glad to see Ministry dabbling in things like touring with a hip Industrial Rap band that is super relevant in the current music scene. Sadly the crowds didn’t seem to mesh all that well…
Hell, the fact that this dinosaur of a band is still chugging is in itself impressive and miraculous, so I’m just grateful he’s still going and giving us his all!
PS I was sad they ditched the hot bassist they had at Riot Fest for yet another fat bearded metal d00d from whatever fat bearded metal d00d factory those people seem to emerge from
RIP hot bassist (he looked like a more scrumptious “daddy” version of Danny Lohner complete with salt n pepper stubble shivers girlishly)
