I was listening to Roxy Music’s Flesh and Blood CD this morning, and noticed that the beginning of track 1 (In The Midnight Hour) has a very similar count-up (with echo) to the beginning of Faith Collapsing. On the Samples page, it appears that it’s from Fahrenheit 451. I wonder if the Roxy song had any influence on Al in this case? The similiarity is too close.
I would say that Roxy, or at least Eno, has a major influence on Paul Barker, and maybe even Al. Many comparisons to Paul’s Pink Anvil project have been to Eno and David Byrne’s MUSIC IN THE HOUSE OF GHOSTS (right title?) lp.
It was also rumored for a long time that Al did a really cheesy cover of Roxy’s “Same Old Scene” to get out of Arista’s clutches, though a few people tend to disagree with this factoid.
Interesting, thanks. That Eno/Byrne album is My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts, btw. I haven’t listened to any Pink Anvil, but I may have to check it out, esp. if there are comparisons to the Ghosts album.
A Ministry cover of Same Old Scene, eh? That would be interesting. I wonder if Robert Roberts or another member of that line-up could confirm that rumour? Maybe Afra could ask Al about it? Not that we’d ever get to hear it, if it did exist.
Actually, it was Bob Roberts who denied it possibly happened. He’s a big Roxy fan, so he figured he would’ve had the heads up on it. Though Al claimed he did, as far as I know. It was just done to get out of his contract, playing into their hands so to speak.
I’ve actually included a question abouyt that cover in all of my interviews. So far, Bob has been the only one who’s answered it. I’ve got a couple more interviews coming up soon that may be able to answer that question definitively.
