Evil Blizzard - The Dangers Of Evil Blizzard - Debut LP

So underground heavy metal fans here in the UK are kind of going bananas over these crazy bastards who just released their debut recently called “The Dangers Of Evil Blizzard”. I’m sure they’ll be bringing their insane live shows to a town near you at some point soon.

Evil Blizzard feature a drummer that sings and lastly a four bass guitar attack!!! That’s right…one drummer and four bass players is the band. Imagine throwing Black Sabbath, a heap of Krautrock, Dub and a heap of obscure 60s & 70s psychedelic rock into a blender…you’d get Evil Blizzard!!!

The debut album is great fun and balls to the wall rock’n’roll. The vinyl is limited to a pressing of 5oo and is a super sweet pink! Also out on CD.

Below is the press release from Manchester’s Piccadilly Records

“Bands like Evil Blizzard, they give me hope that music is alive and kicking” - Mark E Smith (The Fall)
Like Hawkwind on even more acid or Sunn O))) meets Butthole Surfers/P.I.L. with four bassists and droning powerful songs.
4 bass players, a singing drummer, a baby’s head theremin and a dancing sacrificial pig…

Welcome to the surreal and slightly worrying world of Evil Blizzard. An assault on the ears and the eyes, their brutal onslaught of bludgeoning riffs has been making friends and enemies in equal measures throughout the country over the past 12 months.

The debut album THE DANGERS OF EVIL BLIZZARD is released on JOHN ROBB’S Louder Than War Records CD, and very limited edition pink vinyl (500 Only For The World). Comprising of four bass guitars, with minimal vocals, keyboards and samples, the band have drilled right into the void currently present in the UK music scene. With influences ranging from Hawkwind, Dub Reggae, Krautrock and Black Sabbath they have amassed a huge and dedicated following in a short space of time, playing with such varied acts as Bo Ningen, Conan, Ufomammut and Gnod.

Spotted at an early gig by Mark E Smith, who promptly took the band on tour supporting The Fall, the band have spent the past year gathering phenomenal reviews for their incredible live shows which feature a myriad of masks, on stage brawls, off stage brawls, stage invasions and audience participation. Their tribal and ritualistic performances are a B-Movie theatre of the absurd; a mix of bewilderment and celebration.

The album was recorded live in one take at Sunshine Studios in Manchester by Andy Gibbon (who has worked with The Fall amongst others). Recording it took 5 hours. Mixing it to emulate the chaos of them live took 5 months.

Listed as ‘one of the top 20 bands to watch out for in 2013’ on their hugely influential website, Louder Than War supremo John Robb was so impressed with the band he set up Louder Than War records to release the album, despite the band having several other offers from labels.

I’m diggin’ it.
Whalebomb, especially. It’s like 18 minutes of crushing heaviness. The whole album is cool, though. Recommended that people who like the less faggy side of Godflesh (i.e. Just “Streetcleaner”) check them out. Cheers, Akbar! Thanks for the disc, Brothaman!

Yeah man Whalebomb friggin JAMS when it gets to where it’s going!!!

Don’t thank me…thank the Monchhichi haha

I like songs like that just build and build.

I like songs like that just build and build.

Totally…and when it finally arrives the best ones just drill that rhythm repeatedly until ya head caves in!!! Swans are masters of that in the live department.

Evil Blizzard rule!!!

I bet that’s a good jam.
Do they use any coofin guitars for it?

the video of this song live is cool.

Ha!

the video of this song live is cool.

As cool as Hitler?

It’s not awful musically or anything, not exactly my bag either. However the whole thing seems kind of gimmick to me.

I can understand that. I guess a lot of people having heard music from other masked bands such as Slipnot etc would assume it’s a gimmick. However every single person who has caught one of their live shows or heard the entire LP will tell you otherwise. Just google Evil Blizzard live review and read away. Obviously it’s all subjective and I haven’t seen them…however I will be catching them when they swing through town. If Mark E Smith thinks they kick major ass live then I’m definitely along for the ride. But yeah I’ve spun the record and listened to the album under the cans numerous times and love it…proper balls and all rock’n’roll.

Those two tunes featured on the videos are actually the goofiest (for a better word) from the album.
