1 hour and 40 minutes of pure unadulterated misanthropy. Total annihilation of the senses. I wish JKB had the guts to record something like this at some point. Buy maybe its not too late? Him and/or Jarboe collaborating with Esoteric would be a sign of the inevitable apocalypse.
After the new AmenRa, Mass IIII, this is the album I’m waiting the most for this first semester.
I guess their music is a bit too much for most of the people of this board. Ultra-doom metal of the more extreme sort, doom-metal.com sums it up very well:
Maybe the ultimate doom metal band creating a very powerful atmosphere filled with apathy, insanity, hate and disgust for the human race. Ultra slow music, very long tracks, a devastating, apocalyptic sound with samples and highly distorted vocals.
good to see someone interested in the band (and in amenra, which I also enjoy). Im not so big on classifying Esoteric as ‘ultra-doom’ or whatever because there are so many different shades and feelings in their music. In fact it is not one dimensional at all and the psychedelic textures, guitar melodies and even the tormented vocals are just as often mindblowingly beautiful and tranquil as they are angry and devastating.
I truly see Esoteric more as a psychedelic band than an ‘ultra doom metal’ one. What do you think?
To my ears the band sounds a lot less psychedelic and a lot more monolithic than bands like Middian (or Yob of course), Ufomammut or Electric Wizard. I feel Esoteric is closer to bands like Moss or Asunder… but I’m not a real expert of the doom scene, a bit more into post-hardcore (Neurosis-like bands) when it comes to slow and heavy (apart Godflesh of course).
