Episode VII

Any thoughts?
I thought it was ok. Perhaps JJ Abrams had a little too much influence on the script.
The big pay off for me was seeing the old cast in their roles. although ford was just reciting lines for the introduction of his character and didnt really come into han solo until easily into the middle of his part. And poor carrie fisher… When i was a little kid i couldnt take my eyes off of her because she was so pretty and now i cant take my eyes off of her because she is so wrecked! I keep thinking how the hell did she morph into that? I keep trying to see a resemblence to my former honey bunch and i cant see it.she belongs in the cantina from episode IV. Even her voice is fucked up. [:(]

I loved it. I’ve seen it twice already.

Absolutely loved it. Did you catch 007’s cameo? You don’t see his face, don’t wanna spoil anything for people who haven’t seen it.

Has anyone heard Gilbert Gottfried go off on Carrie Fischer? It’s brutal.

No?! a Link?
I know she’s loving being the center of attention again with all of her interviews.

Let me look for it. I think it was part of the Joan Rivers Roast. My buddy was playing it a few months ago in my car and we were dying. He was so obnoxiously great.

I’m at work now so I can’t play it in full with volume, but I’m pretty sure this is the set. Carrie is just one of his targets, but the whole set is amazing.

I thought it felt a lot like Disney making a Star Wars movie. Fun enough, but with zero risky choices that might cause the movie to make less than the absolute maximum profits that it can. I also think it will be less well regarded in five years by which time we’ll have had another five movies out.

I didn’t catch anybody’s cameos. Supposedly Yoda and Ben had cameos. But I didn’t see them.

All in all, I liked it, and it felt closer to the movie world than, say, the second X files Movie did to it’s world (second X files movie just looked like a generic movie that they threw familiar characters in to help boost sales)

[black]I like that they brought back porkins’ kid! That fat Xwing pilot could only be a descendant and a nod to Porkins.

One thing I was disappointed with was they didn’t tell any back story on how the first order rose out of the death of the Emprire. Hopefully more of that will be explained in the next movies.

The head bad guy… Did Gollum get transported into a galaxy far far away or what? My serious theory on the head bad guy is that it is Vader. The gash on his head, the fucked up skin, its consistent with the wounds suffered on Mustafar. Luke wasn’t able to turn him to the good side but for a few minutes and his soul spent so much time on the dark side that that’s what he is now by default

Also, Kylo Ren takes his mask off and Alfred E. Numan is underneath!!! WTF?? The fuckin ears the nose the mouth…What?! me worry?

Back in the 80’s after Return Of The Jedi I remember being on the playground and some kid talking about how the Story after Jedi focuses on Han and Leia’s kids. Spot on 30 years ago… Props to that star wars nerd!!

Saw Kylo Ren killing Solo from hundred miles out. As soon as Han walked out on that bridge I knew it was over for my favorite character.

but I bet that’s the only way Ford would do the movie is if they killed his character off. I remember reading he wanted Solo to die at the end of ROTJ. Also, with as busted as Carrie fisher is now, that passionate hug was probably written in place of the kiss that was supposed to go there but Disney compromised on the 15 MORE million that they would’ve had to give him for that scene alone[/black]

I think it was easily better than episode I and II

I’ll check it out in a bit

Though I know this may blow my cover as a sleeper agent planted here by Russian counter-intelligence, I have to declare that I’ve had no interest in Star Wars beyond my childhood.

That said, I try to be a good sport and play along with my friends who do still have a deep abiding interest in the story. They successfully dragged me to showings of both episodes II and III.

I was perfectly sober during both screenings, but I have almost no recollection of what actually happened. It felt like being in the midst of a CGI shit-storm, which meant some fun moments here and there, but nothing I remembered for long.

I have to declare that I’ve had no interest in Star Wars beyond my childhood.

I’m sorry for your loss.

I would put them in this order (ordering the movies seems the thing fans do)

IV
V
III
II
VII
VI
I

I actually quite liked Clones, so I know I’m a weirdo in that regard. I also don’t much like Return of the Jedi (loved it as a kid, but it fell apart when I saw it as an adult)

I loved it! I’m a pretty big fan of the series in general. Going to see Return of the Jedi in the theaters and getting some of the action figures were some of my earliest memories.

I love all the movies, some better than others. Here’s how I would rank them overall:

  1. The Empire Strikes Back
  2. A New Hope
  3. The Force Awakens
  4. Revenge of the Sith
  5. Return of the Jedi
  6. The Phantom Menace
  7. Attack of the Clones

[reply]The head bad guy… Did Gollum get transported into a galaxy far far away or what?

Funny you should say that, the villain, Snoke, is actually played by Andy Serkis, same as Gollum [:)]

  1. The Empire Strikes Back
  2. A New Hope
  3. Revenge of the Sith
  4. Return of the Jedi
  5. The Force Awakens
  6. Attack of the Clones
  7. The Phantom Menace
  1. The Empire Strikes Back
  1. A New Hope
  2. The Force Awakens
  3. Revenge of the Sith
  4. Return of the Jedi
  5. The Phantom Menace
  6. Attack of the Clones

This is the proper order.

The prequels are an abomination, I will take the Ewoks over Episodes I-III any day. Lucas just threw shit at the screen with the last three. There are so many weak story lines (many unexplained), masked in horrible dialogue and cartoon-level CGI. I did not go see those films to sit and listen to trade negotiations, and wonder how Anakin could be such a whiny bitch, tell Padme he murdered women and children, yet still gets in her pants and marries her! Episode III is the ‘best’ one, which is like saying it’s the freshest pile on top of a mountain of shit.

The thing about The Force Awakens is that it’s exactly the Star Wars film that needed to be made first to restore confidence in the fan base. The nostalgia was intentional, but there was enough newness to not be a total exercise in fan service. I really enjoyed the movie for its familiarity to the original three, and they definitely played it safe with the New Hope-ish story (Jakku could have been Tatooine, and it would not have made any difference).

More chances will be taken with the next two films. I think where this film succeeds the most is the casting and likability of the new main characters. Rey, Finn, and Poe are all well-developed (Poe should be more present in VIII). Also, JJ didn’t blow his load with the first one, he left the audience with plenty of questions for the next film. I have my gripes about certain things in the movie, but overall it’s a very well-made sequel, and more often than not, reminded me of the Star Wars universe I grew up with.

1002

I thought it was pretty cool. Definitely the best since “Jedi”. I couldn’t even stay awake for the 3 prequels, and had totally sworn off the franchise.

Aside from the terrible cheesy soap-worthy pilot dude, Poe, the acting was decent. The movie LOOKED like a proper Star Wars film, which was great. The little throwback nods were nice too . . . like the cantina scene, the Falcon’s gameboard, the practice ball thingy, etc.

What I found most refreshing about this film was the proper special effects and set design. They did not rape my eyes with cheesy cartoonish CGI work. It was really seamless and there wasn’t any part where I rolled my eyes at the crappy graphics work. It ALL looked great. I found myself staring at the funny little orange Asian midget Jedi lady’s face in disbelief, figuring it must be CGI but not “seeing” it as anything but “real”. The details in this film were really great. And the large shipscapes inside and out . . . Geiger-esque and so sterile and lovely.

Also, even knowing the biggest of spoilers of the film beforehand, I got so lost in the moment that it still hit me with proper impact.

Anyway, I’m not a Star Wars geek and am about as pessimistic and negative as can be, so the fact that I enjoyed all 2 hours of the film and even held my piss so I wouldn’t miss part of it really says something.
