Embarrassing.......

Well folks,
Thanks for the welcome since I joined a couple of weeks ago. Been good.
I notice from my ‘Celine Dion’ post that one or two of you seem to have some fairly embarrassing gig experiences in the past; it’s time to own up!
In the late 70s/early 80s I was into the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM!!!) as it was then called and feel I can boast an Embarassing List of Gigs to make some of you squirm.
Here goes (in no particular order):

Tygers of Pan Tang, Hellanbach, Raven,
Toad the Wet Sprocket (truly awful),
Girlschool, Vardis, Wrathchild,
Witchfinder General, Ethel the Frog,
Venom, Fist, Angel Witch,
Saxon, Iron Maiden (original line up!!!),
Praying Mantis, Whitesnake, UFO.

This list is by no means definitive, but does constitute the basis of any case against me for both bad taste and bad judgement!!! There are also counts of bad taste and derisory judgement during the late 80s/90s and 00s; these remain unconfirmed at this time.

There were the occasional beacons of good taste, but the majority were SHITE!

Surely, I am not alone…come on, confess one and all.

Yours, in shame,

JasonA

since I’ve already embarrassed myself once already tonight by getting a story totally wrong, I don’t mind sinking a bit lower into the crack in the world so it can swallow me whole.

here goes, most embarrassing gig ever…Extreme.

there, i feel better.

Not bad, not bad at all!!!

Did you have your lighter swaying gently over your head as you sang along?

Jason A
(dammit…I might have done that myself!)

Ligher was out and glowing for ‘more than words’ yes. [blush]

I was only 13 though…

Awwww…bless!

and then there was Trev and Simon…but that’s a diff story not entirely a gig as all it entailed was 100’s of people shouting ‘swing your pants’

My gig taste rapidly improved over the years

My first concert was in '85. I was 12.

Yep, RATT with Bon Jovi as the opener.

Never saw them, but must confess to Quiet Riot.
Sorry.

I saw Quiet Riot a few years ago.

Firehouse, Slaughter, and Warrant opened.

We went for the laughs since Quiet Riot was “cool” when we were in about 6th grade.

Hair Metal…genius!!!

never had a problem with girlschool.
face value.they were cool.
style pushes everything forward. or backward. look at al’s get-up for the current now over tour. the tophat the overdressed big boot action.he probably saw the assasination of jesse james, starring brad pitt and ran with the look.
what came first. chicken or egg.
that movie was copyright '07. you be the judge.

First show Tesla opening for Great White at Aragon. Yikes, once bitten . . .

Saw buddy rich around in 81 or 82 but:

Tom petty in 1983 was the first concert I saw.

Ive seen my share of ridiculous music, but that was all at festivals, so it doesnt count.
I think Ive never actually gone to a club gig that I later found embarrasing though (except for a Geddy Lee show, which I find embarrasing primarily for not remembering it at all due to alcohol level in my blood). People say it was a good show but I dont remember any of it!

EDIT: I just remembered something: Skid Row! I guess that would count as embarrasing.

Yes.

Yes it would.

Evanescence before they came out…sorta. They played at a fair here before their first album came out. Thought it was a little bit tolerable too, but when I started hearing it on the radio and on tv, it got stale real quick.

Tesla’s Five Man Acoustical jam is still great! [:)]

Their concert might have sucked but “Slave To The Grind” was a great album. More albums from that time period that I don’t mind admitting that are great are Queensryche: Empire, Anthrax: Attack Of The Killer B’s

tbh the concert was great fun. same goes for Dio, who I saw at a festival - kinda silly music but performance was top notch, energy was right and it was basically not a waste of my time, even if I wouldnt ever actually buy any of his albums. At the very least, it helped my understand what people see in this sort of music.

saw Lenny Kravitz earlier this year.
what can I say…guilty pleasure. puts on a HELL of a performance live though, fuck the radio singles, this guy has a passion for music and really jams out. played with a 101 degree fever that night too.
not to mention, the highlight of the night: I was next to this couple that looked like bobby brown and whitney houston, and they were sharing drugs all night long [laugh][laugh]
