I would say that Obama actually might have a shot at winning. I think the majority of peeps are very sympathetic to his campaign.
Time will tell.

Obama pisses me off the least of everyone currently running.
Save McCain, but it’s six years too late to have the lunatic in the White House.
Meh.
What this nation needs is not better presidential material, but more grassy knolls.
It saddens me here, as Jizzwad points out, that people do not usually vote for their best interests here in the US. Though, I must say this about Obama:
Considering 4-5 years ago, that only Chicagoans heard about him, and no-one else did outside of the city, he’s doing a damned fine job. He is tied with Clinton who has been in politics for decades and whose husband has been elected twice. Even with that much pull and familiarity on her side, Obama is doing better than anybody else. Him winning Maine really surprised me as did Iowa, so who knows? Amongst the democrats in these states, he’s pulling some weight - no-one is leading by a huge margin as is usually the case.
Obama got elected into Senate and is fiercely running against Clinton. He did this all by himself, having been raised primarily by his mother. He educated himself and rose. In fact, these are similarities he shares closely with Bill Clinton. Senator Obama’s an extremely intelligent man with huge charisma and appeal.
Maybe not this election, but perhaps the next or the one after that. He’s certainly on the right course. After all, he’s only been in this game for a very short period of time and he’s already turned the heads of the world.
But what do I know - I can’t even vote…
In my lifetime, Obama’s made it the furthest for a black man running for president. I’m a little skeptical about him though, as he seems to be fighting really dirty. I’m not particularly for clinton either (don’t agree much with her terms of what censorship should be), but she seems to be a little more “ethical”, if the word for it. Obama is just…smug?
But i’ll give him his credit: he strikes me as a guy who might not fuck around, but the way I see it, “one bush fucked things up, and a clinton did the repairs. Another bush fucks things up, and maybe another clinton will fix things up again…”.
As I’ve said before I am/was a Bill Richardson supporter, but now that he is out, I have to admit I like what I’ve seen from Obama lately. More sepcifically, I liked Obama a couple of years ago when I saw him on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.” when he wasn’t anything but a Jr. senator from Illinois. He was calm, cool, collected and he didn’t sound didactic at any point. Cut to him being a candidate for pres and here comes the didactic rhetoric and the 150 dollar smile and just more plastic than human. Cut to everyone else out of the race But he and Clinton and I’m starting to see that persona that was on the “Daily Show” come back, the 150 dollar smile is gone, the didactic speeches are waning and he seems to be back to just business from a smart guy.
But As jizzy points out, he is black, and I while I don’t share the same pessimism as afra and Jizzy thinking that the American voters won’t vote in their interests (well I do share that pessimism but not in this case) my “well he’s black” fear is probably darker. I’m scared that some, “rednecked, mentally deficient, bible thumpin’, nigrah - hatin’ crackers and trash”
will put a target on his head and that he will never get to take office. Moral dillema: do I vote for the best candidate and help put this target on his head? Or do i not vote at all and hate myself for not doing all i can to put the best candidate in the whitehouse?

Not trying to be a smart-ass here, but how is he fighting dirty?

You just quoted Hilary from her last debate… I think Hilary is a snake and she is running on her husband’s cred. I also think her administration will be nothing like her husbands and that Bill won’t have as big a role as one would think within her administration. Her health care plan is ridiculously stupid; Making it LAW that everyone must have health care and then wage garnishment for those that can’t outright afford it. Egh YUCK! right down to her crying/sniffling at a press conference. that was just a press conference what happens when she doesn’t get her way with congress? guilt trips? locking herself in the bathroom??
YUCKY HILARY!!

I think the “a Bush needs a Clinton to pick up after him” is a dangerous type of idea in that it turns American politics into a form of Dynasty. The next natural progression would be for Jeb to take over for Hillary and then who, Chelsea? We’ll already have gone through 20 years of Bush/Clinton/Bush in the ruling seat (28 if you count Bush Sr.'s time as VP) do we want to make that number higher? If so, when does it stop?
There are times that the Dem/Rep division seems a little Coke/Pepsi as it currently is, this just makes it that much more so. Seriously, this is all completely new territory for the presidency and I think it’s best to tread carefully.
That said, if Hillary wins the nomination I’ll vote for her.
…he’s only been in this game for a very short period of time…
Maybe that is exactly what is needed… someone who has not been corupted yet.

Yes, I did indeed quote her: too damn good to pass up! And when I say “fighting dirty”, I mean just overall attack and strategy. Most who campaign and run are usually civil with one another; with Obama and Clinton, he’s pretty rude. I’ve seen her go to shake his hand, while he just turns his back to her. Bad mouthing is a must, but he’s digging down real deep, which I suppose to necessary…don’t want another kerry now, do we? But I just get bad vibes from him when it comes down to his attitude towards his competitor (hilary). Nothing wrong with being aggessive and wanting to win, but you can be a little civil.

What are you watching? I’ve never seen him turn down her handshake. I’ve watched all of the debates and the closest he’s even come to attacking her or “digging up dirt” was asking her about her bullshit stint on the board of supervisors with wal mart. I think he was totally within his right to ask her about that because obviously wal mart is hurting the middle class and has always hurt the middle class so after she says she’s all about the middle class I think he was well within his perameters to ask about that. Other than that I have never seen obama be anything but polite to her even to the point of pulling out her chair at the last debate… Well whatever to each his own,

[reply] the bullshit myth of the immaculate conception in which Jesus is birthed by a deity as well as a mortal woman.
yeah boy! A diety, A Mortal woman! You Know it’s not true. I gaurantee a diety would blow a load like a shot gun right through her back! What about said mortal woman’s uterus… Could she carry a diety’s child? the fetus would be half god for christ sakes I bet it would kick right through her womb! There’s no way some mortal chamber could cage it! Also GOD fathering a child? AS a God that makes him perfect in every way so that would mean all cagillion sperm he shot off would have be able to penetrate her feeble mortal egg. if not, would that mean her egg is stronger than any one sperm of a mighty GOD? Forget twins she would put this planet in over poulation crisis by herself!

Hey all,
I truly hope that Obama wins too. I don’t dislike Hillary though. Unfortunately I highly doubt the majority of Americans will vote for him primarily because he’s black. And if he does win, I’d still be worried: The people in the US government are ruthless enough to actually assassinate him so that a black person doesn’t become president, not to mention that he’s of an islamic background. There’s no way that’s going to go down smoothly for the opponents…
I’m actually an ex-patriot. I haven’t lived in the US since 1997. I feel kinda strange voting abroad, like it’s almost none of my business. But my family still lives in California. In my opinion, what’s really pressing for Americans in a better health-care system and reconsidering alternative resources to oil. I think that goes for both democrats and republicans. Unfortunately, I don’t think the health-care thingy will ever happen because too many companies thrive on the current lack of a public health-care system. But oil will eventually run out… Time pump up those bicycle tires!
It’s interesting to note that Muslims have never attributed the crucifixion of Jesus as true.
"and they killed him not, nor did they cuase his death on the cross "
( the Koran, Surah 4 )
That’s true - though Jesus (or Isa, in Arabic), in Islam, is considered the Messiah as they believe he will return to earth. Muslims believe he was not crucified (this was an illusion) but was ascended to heaven. Muslims also believe that he was not the son of God (Allah).
Though, this leads me to ask. In Christianity, particularly the Catholic branch, how did Jesus die for sins though he returned three days later? Why would God use deceit in that situation? Also, why is Christ worshipped when this in fact is not allowed by any of the Abrahamic faiths? I’ve always wondered these points but could find no (good) explanation.

by the primary numbers it looks like a majority of americans have already voted for him. He’s won 21 states to Hilary’s 10

I don’t think the government would assassinate him for being black for but for actually being in a position to change things especially with a democratic congress. although I’d bet the government won’t have to assassinate him some dickhead racist will do it for them.
not to mention that he’s of an islamic background.
He has NO islamic background. For those that care he’s christian, also, he says the pledge of allegiance, he took his oath of office on a CHRISTIAN bible. his “radical muslim agenda” has been gossiped/rumored about on right wing blogs. I have no proof, but imagine that it was probabably started initially by Limbaugh. As much as I detest O’reilly, Bill doesn’t stoop to that level of lying the way Rush does.

the liberals who actually care enough about the primaries to go hit the polls have voted for him which is great. but i think the turnouts for a general election for presidency will be a bit different if he actually makes it on the democrat side. the big question to me is can he get more people to go out of their way to drive down to their town hall and vote for him just because he is black than those will do so just to vote against him for the same reason. nobody should vote for any candidate just because of their color, but i am sure in this country many will vote against him just for that reason. so i think he needs the ignorant vote on his side too. i hope i am wrong of course. but i really don’t think he’s got a chance in hell of winning the presidency. but i don’t have a lot of faith in our general public.
His father was Kenyan Muslim and he did attend a Koranic studies school for 2 years in Indonesia when he was under the age of 10. However, he also went to Bible school around the same time. He doesn’t seem religious whatsoever from either side. In fact, his middle name is Muslim (Hussein).
The Clinton camp played all this up quite big - it didn’t seem to work much though.

His father was, but apparently his mother and father seperated before he was 2 years old. I’ve seen Multiple reports on CNN, MSNBC, and crooksandliars blog that have said that the Koran school rumor is completely false and has NO MERIT and is bascially a bold faced lie. I do agree with you though, he doesn’t seem to be religious either way and that’s definately a plus in my book. you’re relgious? KEEP IT TO YOURSELF! especially if you’re a public official.

The great thing is that the sort of people who’d be likely to vote against Obama due to his race are also the sort of people who consider McCain a liberal and therefor are likely to vote for a religious right third party candidate (and I’ll bet you money there’ll be one) rather than McC.
This year the Religious Right stand to divide the vote much like Nader did for the Gore race. It’s nice to see this happening on the other side of the fence. The fact that I <3 Hukabeebee is still running and getting votes proves that there’s a strong contigient of anti-McC feelings boiling under the surface in elephant land.
