East Bay Ray & Neurosis Speaks Out On Biafra

Grmpy…
…yr ok by me.

He only said he owns the “Souls At Zero” CD, he didn’t say he liked it or listens to it. I confirmed it from a trusted source that Voidhead gave him the CD to use as a mirrow when putting on poop lipstick.

I’ve listened to it a few times. no poop was worn using it as a mirror though.

I always thought Lard was much cooler than DKs…only because the music was more metal I guess and obviously because I was totally gay for Ministry at the time I got into Lard. In saying that, the DKs have numerous songs which are absolutely fantastic musically and lyrically.

The DK/Jello thing was very complex (maybe?) I imagine with possible “mistakes” on both sides…but when you’re a big fan of Jello and you listen to his spoken word album Become The Media where he talks about the DK suit you really do get caught up in the “us vs them” war of it all.

As a big Jello fan I took his side and never went to the DK reunion shows and always thought they were douche-bags. In saying that I never got to hear Klaus, East Bay Ray or Peligro spoken word albums with their version of events.

Over the last few years Al Jourgensen has taught me very well not to take musical heroes too seriously as chances are they’re complete douche-bags.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!

Too true.

It’s funny, I’ve talked to lots of people who tell about getting into DK via Ministry. I was actually the opposite.

I was totally into DK/Jello and Rigor Mortis and then when I read a review of “In Case You Didn’t Feel Like Showing Up” and it mentioned both Mike Scaccia and Jello I thought my head would explode. I bought the video and cassette album and that was it . . . .

I was gay for Ministry too. I then found LARD . . . that, to me (especially the “Last Temptation” album) was like the absolute apex of everything cool.

That made me even more obsessed and gay than ever . . . to the point where I started making my own clothes even . . .

Oh, I also wrote to Jello and sent a handful of weird clippings from magazines and such that were later used by Winston for the collage insert in “Pure Chewing”. I even got listed in the liner notes/ credits, which to me, at the time, was the ultimate success of my life.

I’m still gay for my heroes, but as I get older they tend to get REALLY old. Some of them are able to break past the age barrier unscathed (Lemmy, Iggy), while others tend to struggle retaining their street cred and awesomeness (Al, Jello . . .)

I’ve met all the Rigor Mortis guys and they are all super badass and grounded, they’ve not let me down (yet) . . . probably because they never got to the level of icon status as Jello and Al to the point where it poisons them and turns them into self-important, delusional douchebags.

I followed gunnars path as well.
I had no idea peligro and the others had spoken word about the trial I should try to dig that up

DH, Klaus and Ray never did any spoken word stuff or spoke about the trials. Akbar was just speaking hypothetically — that is, if the other guys had been talking a lot and putting their “message” out there opinions (his and public) may have been different.

As it was, Jello was the most vocal (and the most apt to be listened to) so his position was given more weight to the outside world.

The other guys had occasional comments about stuff put up on their websites or in interviews or whatever, but they don’t have the access (or public interest) to put out CD’s about such crap.

Anyway, I don’t give a crap who ripped off who or who’s a sellout. Jello’s obviously the star of the band for good reason. But everyone’s gotta pay the bills . . .

I was never a DK fan, but I feel the same way about The Misfits.
I’M not gonna go see 'em, 'cuz it’s not the same without Danzig, but I’ve got no problem with the other guys making a buck out of something whose creation they were a part of.

I can understand that, Glenn wrote 99% of the music and lyrics, and that band has a Spinal Tap-like roster of former members. Even Jerry Only is not an original member, Diane Dipiazza was the 1st bass player, but Jerry counts as he is on every recording (excluding those where Glenn re-recorded his bass!).

When I think of the Misfits though I see Doyle and Jerry in my mind. They just epitomize the whole band’s image for me. So I didn’t mind seeing them live a few times when they first came back. Both the brother’s playing had vastly improved from the early days even if Michael Graves was not the best substitute for Glenn. After even Doyle left I didn’t bother again.

I never saw them live or bought any of their new material, but my buddy made me a copy of an album they did called “Project 1950”, I think. It was a bunch of covers of old 50’s and 60’s songs. I really dug it.

100% correct. King Buzzo has said in interviews he’d be happy to have Melvins music playing in Star Bucks or go on tour with Madonna…as long as selling your music doesn’t compromise the sound of it then why not make money from it.

Johnny Lydon is on ads selling butter over here in the UK…good on him.

Iggy was all over the UK for some stupid insurance ads, but nobody slagged him because . . . well, it’s Iggy Pop.

That’s what you’ve got to do if you want to be a musician in the 21st century. The old model just isn’t going to work for new artists unless you’re Kei$ha or Lady Gaga or somebody like that and unless an old artist has wisely invested he’s going to have to find new methods of income (selling coats and hats in auctions, for example).

I think it’s funny when small-time bands get called sell-outs for becoming popular or signing to a major label or something. Living off of microwave burritos and driving an old broken mail truck to gigs might seem romantically badass when you’re in your early 20’s, but I’d suspect it stops being so fun when you’re in your 40’s . . .

I was never a DK fan, but I feel the same way about The Misfits.

that’s a little different though. when you hear ads for the newfits it not Danzig singing. It was the graves cat on the ads.

Also, You know they went through a ton of legal stuff in order to be able to tour with that name too. the Kennedy boys just said Gimmie!

The newfits ain’t that bad though, the famous Monsters CD is actually quite good. Was not a fan of the project 1950 cd though or the American Psycho release. But I hear they are releasing a new cd sometime soon though, unless that is off again. It’s on again off again so often now that who knows.

certainly not the original Misfits but at least they don’t try to sell themselves that way. They’re not using Danzig’s voice and face. They put it right out there “NEW SINGER”

I think what pisses Jello fans off is the way the other members went about it and their deceitful advertising for their shows

It’s funny . . . you’re all about telling the rich to share the wealth until it comes to Biafra. Here’s three guys that just want to work and make a living but you want to suppress them and only make the rich guy richer . . . FASCIST!!!

As for saying they should have not used songs with Jello’s voice in the promos . . . that’s dumb. They are not allowed to (or maybe they respectfully decided not to) release new material under the DK name. This is because of Jello. If they came out with a new DK album with one of the other putzes singing Jello would crap his pants, and so would you and every other fanboy (actually, I wouldn’t be too happy about it either).

So quit trying to argue this issue over anything other than what you’ve already copped to . . . you’re gay for Biafra. That’s fine. Nothing wrong with that.

Some of us feel like a band is made up of musicians and that all of their talents contribute to something magical. You only care about the front man. That’s your right, but don’t try to mask it as anything else.

Not really. They were getting their share they just wanted more. And now they have cut jello out of royalties completely.

As for saying they should have not used songs with Jello’s voice in the promos . . . that’s dumb.

Why is that dumb? Otherwise its false advertising.

I am a fan boy but that doesn’t change the situation.

Neurosis blew me away live. I had heard very little of them before seeing them. That changed very quickly. I got to see them open for Machine Head, along with Downset and Vision of Disorder. It was a memorable concert also for the fact that Phil Anselmo was hanging out by the soundboard watching the show and I got to talk to him for a little while.

actually, it IS false advertising to play music with him singing.

that isnt the band that is going to be heard or seen, so it shouldnt be the band that is advertised. East Bay is writing a brand new DK album right now with his new scabs, and thats fine. i dont like the idea, but if he wants to call it that he should. but when he goes on tour, THOSE are the songs that should be used in advertisements.

jello has been accused of some shady things, but nothing has ever actually been proven. as stated, the court case has been misquoted out the wazoo for years. the current DKs are falsely advertising themselves, and there is no argument against that. the new Misfits dont do that, they are very upfront and honest. so is Journey.

but the DKs… eh. they are some scummy guys. i mean… if they did do so much of the writing and they are perfectly fine without Jello… then where is their follow up to Frankenchrist?

anyone who can just tour off of songs they only partially made 2+ decades ago is hardly an honest hardworking man…

with your sound reasoning you’re going to be in the “gay for Jello” club too with out a second thought for your logic.
You forgot to mention, if the others were so great why aren’t their solo careers anywhere near Jello’s?

i like Jello, but i would hardly say that i would join a gender based sexual binary just for him and his middle-aged body.
