early Ministry

So So Life really, really, REALLY should have been put on With Sympathy album. Just heard that again for the first time in many years…and I didn’t even know it was Ministry! I’d heard it in clubs somewhere. wow. Call me nuts. I’d sure love to find a CD with that on it!!

Good track. I’m pretty sure a studio version never leaked, so if you heard it in a club, the DJ must have been spinning a bootleg recording from one of the With Sympathy tours.

But yes, I believe this was a track intended for the album, and like “Same Old Madness” got left off because of stupid Arista reasons.

It was intended to be put on the album until Arista saw Al dancing in that YouTube video.

I liked his fancy footwork.
And on-point clapping.

i remember reading somewhere that same old madness was supposed to be ministry’s follow up to “cold life” on waxtrax

al even says “this one is called same old madness, it’s our next single” in some live bootleg of 1982 announcing the song

and as we know even the video was made, but supposedly whole thing was abandoned because the band got signed to arista

i guess after that al was in “creative chains” and was “being milli vanilli” as he himself put it, maybe there’s some truth to it, maybe not, who knows. but yeah according to bootlegs and also recordings wempathy posted, there was enough songs for 2nd “synthpop” album for sure.

i wonder if it even exists in proper studio form really, if it does, al should release all of it just for laughs - and who knows, maybe it will make him more money than the butt-metal albums of late ministry.

I wonder what percentage of Al quotes ever come to fruition? And knowing that 99% of his schtick is BS why should anyone bother quoting him at this point?

SSL was written as filler for the WS tour. It came to life during rehearsals in Cambridge so consequentially everyone in the band, Pothier and Hallen included, had some input on this one. I’m sure Al would love to not take credit anyway…and then claim credit for everything in the same sentence.

He says the same thing about Paisley and Filthpig on the new revelations bootleg.

that was bridge school benefit live, and it was way before filth pig release and i guess it was planned for the album but it got shoved aside for that soundtrack album? the final studio version sounds just like filth pig album anyway

that was bridge school benefit live,
Which is on the “New Revelations” bootleg

and it was way before filth pig release

Not really. Only about a year

Quite interesting…how things come about, and then change over time. At least, one might think, Al should have just gotten SSL and those other songs out there for his followers, former followers, etc. to have AND to make some more money. Maybe it was WFNX in Boston that I heard SSL on a long time ago. Call me weird, but I think the early 80’s was a much better time of music. Creativity was more wide open and there weren’t these dumb labels and divisions. Twitch was very good, too though.
