Has anyone ever identified the drum samples used on these songs? They all sound the same, and Cabaret Voltaire’s “Don’t Argue” seems to use the same drum sounds. Anyone know what machine/sampler they’re from? Maybe some heavily processed Linns? I have Linn samples on my computer, but they’re dry, and don’t sound like the same ones.
Reason I ask - I’m currently programming “Don’t Argue” for an upcoming gig (complete with soundbytes).
Can’t go wrong w/the 242. I change my avatar like I change my underwear.
Yeah, Don’t Argue is a fine song (the remixes with the backup singers are terrible). I actually found the WW2 propaganda film online called “Your Job In Germany”, which features all the samples heard in the song (“be watchful”, “suspicious”, “don’t clasp a hand”, “they were brought up on straight propaganda”, etc.). I’ve already split up all the samples (I just sampled the Budd Dwyer suicide and ‘beatbox’ intro right off the Code CD). I intend to make this thing sound off-the-record.
A friend/ex-drummer of mine is coming to town in late September, and we’re going to play over 2 hours of music for our friends at a party. The encore is all-industrial, and will include Nitzer Ebb, Ministry, Pigface, maybe Skinny Puppy, 242 and Pailhead, plus a couple of Corrugation songs. Should be a fun night. Jesse, you should make the trip for that one!
Yeah, if I’m not mistaken, you can see the AKAI in the YGDSOB video…trying to remember if it was next to the drummer, and if he was dialing up his triggers (would make sense). If that’s the case, who knows where the samples were sourced from, unless AKAI had their own drum library…I’ll stop geeking out about it and find something close. I guess non of the ex-Ministry guys here would know, either.

Those samples were actually adrian sherwoods, listen to his other productions, he used them all the time…I forget where they came from originally, if they were a drum machine or custom samples, but those signature kicks and snares from that era were definitely from adrian…
