I become citizen of the US tomorrow morning (after a 5 year wait!), however, I’ve always kept an eye on US politics, but more so on International. I’ve always supported Obama since he became a Senator of Illinois soon after I moved here to Chicago. He is very well spoken and intelligent and makes sense - I think a lot of people can identify with him.
Just watched the DNC and is it just me or is this all hype? I mean yes he’ll make a good leader and the US need him, but it was like a boy band concert.
Having said this, whoever said he couldn’t stand up to McCain though, has been proven wrong tonight.
wow, go afra! becoming a citizen is a big deal.everybody here had parents grandparents or older who got here off the boat at some point.and some, like al, probably speedboated over from cuba! anyway, congratulations, man.
yeah the dnc was kinda circus-like. but obama’s speech was great, and biden’s gonna be a bulldog.

Unless you’re Indian. No boats necessary.
Saw the Propostition 24 episode of The Simpsons again last night. A quality episode: Homer says “Get Out”. Its crazy how ridiculous some Americans are towards immigrants considering the USA was founded by them.

Conventions are pep rallies. While their original purpose was to tally up the primary votes and make the nominee official, we all know the results of that way ahead of time now. So instead, the conventions are now a to get your party (and, hopefully, the country) excited about the candidate.
You’ll see the same thing happen with McCain and the Republicans next week.
To me…Being a certain party for the sake of saying you’re in that party seems foolish (i.e. - dem, repub, ilb). I agree with the conventions - they’re “pep” rallies. I’ll vote for Obama probably. I perceive the presidency differently, and for the way I see it - Obama seems the best.
i will suffer my way through the republican convention too. background noise while i do other crap. i’m just waiting to see mccain lose his mind completely in front of a billion people. the guy’s in severe denial of alzheimer’s or something. and he has no program. obama was absolutely right last night when he said mccain’s voted 90-plus percent with the bush agenda. woo-hoo. get me my five million so i can join that club.
yeehaw. the guy’s clueless.
I will vote for Obama and hope that he stands up to all the hype and his promises. However, there is no way a president could do all that he said he would do last night. Probably not even in consecutive terms. The thing that bothers me is that so far it’s been mostly idealism. I haven’t heard a plan behind any of his ideas/promises. I do think he means well though and he’s twice the nominee McCain is.
Maybe one day America will realize that 2 parties is not enough choice to represent our population. Dems and Reps are polar opposites on nearly every issue, and both sets of brainwashed followers believe their party is correct on every issue. It’s funny in a very unfunny way.

How do you lay out a plan, in a 40 minute speech, to fix 8 years of crap? It’s impossible to do. Just let the man work. So far, I think, because he is saying the things that need to be said, that he is the one to run things, which is already a step in the right direction because McCain and Bush for the last 8 years haven’t been able to even do that!

Come on man, I’m talking about ever, not just his speech. His speech was great. I just don’t believe that he will cut taxes for 95% of people. Not with all of his proposed spending. There’s only so much you can tax the super rich before they start taking business elsewhere. I just think a lot of his ideas are just what he wants to happen with little in regards to how to make them come about.
I’ve never been one to trust a politician. Why should Obama get special treatment?
which is already a step in the right direction because McCain and Bush for the last 8 years haven’t been able to even do that!
This doesn’t make sense. McCain had nothing to do with the last 8 years. McCain worked hand in hand with many democrats to pass legislature that wasn’t held in good regards with most republicans. It’s just recently that McCain has turned into Mr. Christian Conservative. He voted against the Bush tax cuts, even though he supports them now.
McCain is playing up to this Christian conservative persona to get in to the white house because of all the hicks who need to see him like that. If he gets in rest assured he’ll do whatever the fuck he wants to do, even a re-invasion of ‘nam to get the “gook sonsabitches” who messed him up all those years ago. I’ve seen McCain give an address before and it was the easily the most confident and straight forward speech and q&a ive seen a politician give… ever. Im not keeping up with what the ol’ geezer is saying at the moment but if there was a man to bring confidence back into the Reps, its him. The fact that its right after Bush is a pain in the arse for the Dems. ie. they couldnt make a bit of ground until someone reputable came along to run for Rep candidate.
Anyhoo, I hope Obama does the business. The timing is just right for a guy like him to come in.
Also I prefer to see Michelle Obama on the tv to McCain’s pill popping skank… ah thats a bit harsh its the pharmacist’s fault.

As Far as I can tell you never reveal your plans early because then people will monkey wrench you or out right steal it. That’s my rational.
His speech was great. I just don’t believe that he will cut taxes for 95% of people.
NOT 95% of the People. 95% of the middle class!there’s a difference.
Not with all of his proposed spending. There’s only so much you can tax the super rich before they start taking business elsewhere.
Look around this place, the super rich have already taken their business elsewhere. He needs to find a way to make cheap labor NOT look so attractive. and I heard him say he was willing to cut their tax breaks AND charge them more for leaving. SO that’s more revenue right there.
I just think a lot of his ideas are just what he wants to happen with little in regards to how to make them come about.
I think your fears are completely justified in light of what we have been accustomed to in recent years. BUT remeber Bill Clinton walked into the same situation, Obama is walking into, back in’92. Granted the Fiscal crisis wasn’t as bad as it is now BUT it was the worst this country had ever seen (Save For Hoover!) He didn’t give out any details of his plans as Far as I remember and he still got it done! I’m willing to give Obama the same cred.

This doesn’t make sense. McCain had nothing to do with the last 8 years. [/reply]
This was written poorly. What I meant to write was in the last 8 years Bush has yet to even say the right things, and ever since McCain has been running for Pres He has also yet to say the right things! although the last 4 years apparently Mcains VOte record is abysmal
