So, as my first thread, does anyone here listen to him at all? I was a Ministry junkie for years until his “Ocean Machine” album found my cd player.
Not me.
Love SYL. Not so much his solo stuff.
In 1993(when he sang for Vai) he blew snot on me from on top of a speaker…I’ve never forgiven him…
I heard City once, my friends told me i’d love it. It wasn’t my scene to be honest. He played here in Belfast last year and apparently it was really great.
I admit I’m so on the Devin bandwagon that I’m look gay for him but for me everything he puts out is solid. His solo stuff is much different from the SYL stuff. SYL was meant as a joke, the music was just too good to ignore. Check out Ocean Machine, Addicted, really anything he has done. His album “Ghost” is quiet, ambient flute music. Great to fall asleep to other night time activities.
Fucking ADORE “Ocean Machine.” Great album. I don’t think anything else Townsend has done (SYL or solo) lives up to it.
I agree lowelly! It’s phenomenal all the way though. Get on board people! [:)]
I don’t like his music.
And he’s very unattractive.
Not liking his music is one thing but unless he is playing guitar with his unattractive face who gives a shit what he looks like?

I agree with you gunnar and let’s face (pun intended) it if you have an ugly face you really have no business playing guitar. Townsend sucks. They should name a vacuum after him he sucks so much.

Well, I cared enough to comment on it.
And you cared enough to get butthurt about it.
So that makes two of us . . .
Oh, Grumpy agreed with me too. So that’s three now.
Lol, I’m not butthurt. I’ve just never gotten the whole “what musicians look like” thing. It’s how Brittany Spears made it past working at the drive thru.

You don’t get the “what musicians look like” thing and yet you have no problem assigning Britney Spears’ success to her appearance?

Yeah exactly. And beyond that people still using the tired old Britney Spears example of her supposedly lacking talent reveal their ignorance. In short, she’d be long gone if she didn’t have more talent in her thumb than most human beings have throughout their useless sacks of flesh.
Britney Spears… she’d be long gone if she didn’t have more talent in her thumb than most human beings have throughout their useless sacks of flesh.
Lady Gaga (god, I never thought I’d say this) gulp got there on the back of her song writing ability, her determination and persistence and through sheer force of will.
Ditto Madonna, who slaved in NY clubs (even appearing on the same bill as bands like Butthole Surfers at times) for years before making it on the back of a similar work ethic.
Britney however…look I have no doubt Britney works hard and is no slouch when it comes to getting off her ass but she is not comparable to the above two. Britney was a “product” who was picked from the ranks of the Mouseketeers (just like Christina Aguilera and the EXTREMELY over rated Justin Timberlake), was then nurtured, moulded and then shaped into the “star” she became. She is pretty, blonde and sexy. She is eye candy, albeit eye candy that was handed a lyrics sheet and taught how to perform. Britney obviously has a very dedicated team who ensure their little cash cow doesn’t grow fat and ugly. In fact I’m betting her whole “public breakdown” was a ploy by her PR team to get her on the front pages of gossip mags the world over.
If she hadn’t made it in pop music she would have made it in porn. There is a thin, thin line separating the two these days.
So please don’t go confusing “talented” with “opportunistic”.
<prepares for fight>
I like his work on FLA’s “Millenium” and “Hard Wired”, and he produced Unit:187 “Loaded”. Pretty good album.
I couldn’t get into Ocean Machine. I bought Addicted and it’s only about half good.
But I highly recommend the SYL stuff. Especially Alien and City.
