A friend of mine is the hugest fan of Descendents/All, he fucking loves them. Have they even done anything in the last good few years? Enjoy the show!

I checked their discogs on Wiki . . . looks like the last thing ALL did was in 2000 and the Descendents in 2004.
I have no idea if either are “any good”. I never particularly liked them. I’ve always appreciated the Vandals, though.
Growing up in “OC” where all those old-school punk bands were, though, my local band of choice was always D.I.
Yeah, i thought it had been quite a while, i do recall my friend wondering when, or even if, they were going to record anything more. It should be nice to see them in concert after 20 years’ listening though, very good [:)]
These old man punk shows are a lot of fun. Especially if you see 'em near their home turf. You get a lot of that old school unity thing going and it’s fun watching the bands hammer away at their old songs just because they love it (they certainly ain’t getting rich from it).
I saw DI and the Dickies open for the Misfits in November and it was just fantastic. One of the bands was short a bass player and another was down a drummer so they just both did double duty like friggin’ troopers because that’s what they do.
All these old so-cal bands have known each other for a billion years and everyone has played with everyone else. It’s a good time. None of that “rockstar bullshit” or anything. And the crowd is usually a good mix of ages and types.
Just watch out if the Nazis come . . . I thought we’d gotten rid of them in the 90’s but I guess they’re still sloppin’ around. Creeps.

The newest thing I purchased from them was Somery in like 1990 or 1991. Their sound changed with “everything sucks” so I never bothered with anything after that. My wife has those albums but I don’t listen to them…
The show was fantastic. Those old punks brought quite the energy. The crowd was nuts for 'em. I met Milo and Karl Alvararez. got autographs on Somery, I don’t want to grow up, and everything sucks (My wife chose that one)
Bill Stevenson (drums) is a behemoth of a man but I didn’t meet him or Stephen Egerton (guitar).
They played about 2-3 newer songs and everything else was back catalog. They opened with “everything sucks” and then played 4 or 5 classics then a newer song the 3 or 4 older songs and that how the whole show went. They played for an hour. They closed with a cover from X (?) the only lyric I could really make out was, “Time to find a fuck buddy”
The sound they have live totally sounds like old school Descendents so even their newer tunes sounded great. I just don’t care for that newer polished sound that most punk bands today are doing. I like it to sound a step above hitting record on an old boom box!
Anyway, I’ve liked the descendents for 25 years now, I’m glad I got to see them. I don’t think they’re touring, I think this was a one off show for the musink festival. but if they are touring I would suggest checking them out if you have even a passing interest in punk
One other point of note, Milo ditched all of the anti gay lyrics in, “I’m not a loser.” In one instance he changed the lyric to something about how disco sucks and the other lyrics he just didn’t sing. Not sure if if he was pressured by GLAAD or just did it out of respect for the diverse audience. either way I thought it was respectful and didn’t hurt the song any.
(for prologue)
The vandals were cool, the guitarist was the one that interacted with the crowd, not really the singer. The guitarist was mega hyped up, probably hopped up on meth. he was that energetic and random with his dialogue with the audience. I’d never really listened to the vandals but they have some funny songs. Aside from meth boy’s over acting on stage, they brought a good show too. My wife knew most of the songs. and the crowd dug them too.
Glad I went. Just good shows all the way around.
Their merch was ridiculously cheap 10 dollar shirts 40 dollar hoodies and they had a “letterman jacket” for 50 bucks (it was made up of the same material as the hoodie but it had buttons and the two tone colors) it was cute but I would never rock it.
^ Thanks for the report. I saw the Vandals years ago. They put on a great show. I don’t remember anybody meth like but they were pretty animated. Glad you had a good time.
