Dead Of Night Listening

There are definitely certain songs that I enjoy listening to in the wee small hours. I’m not a big Nirvana fan by any stretch of the imagination but Something In The Way is a great listen at 2am after a night pubbing/clubbing and coming down off…whatever.

In terms of whole albums it would be mostly…

Brian Eno - Ambient 4: On Land
My Bloody Valentine - Isn’t Anything
Tracy Chapman - Tracy Chapman
Cocteau Twins - Blue Bell Knoll
Death Ambient - Drunken Forrest
Ghazal - The Rain

That’s probably the first mention of Tracy Chapman ever on this forum. Nice play!

I won’t go into repeats here
but aphex twin selcted ambient works is always a good one.
and buckethead - colma
which is like a must have to chill out too.
ascention of the watchers - numinosum is great as well

That’s probably the first mention of Tracy Chapman ever on this forum. Nice play!

HA HA!

Funnily enough, I was thinking about buying that Tracey Chapman album a few weeks ago as I’d seen it going cheaply in a record store. Am a closet fan of 80’s pop rock (Sade, Tears For Fears, Prince, Joe Jackson…).

Sade is inexpressibly brilliant.

No Ordinary Love live in concert is a resplendently beautiful piece.

This song breathes, and feels. And at night, beneath the full moon, it dreams while tiny fireflies stage a ballet in the sharp black grass.

Get thee to a copy of Sade Lovers Live for further info.

What a homo!

Lovers Rock is pretty cool[cool]

Why must you constantly reject my suggestions at more moody melodic sensitive music and consistently misinterpret them as as an attempt to get you to have anal sex with me? I think our bisexual relationship is solid enough to withstand a lot of bantering back and forth; I consider your jabs at me as mere badinage when, in retrospect, I detect that you may be deadly serious, and that I am not taking you seriously enough. Admittedly, although I have weighed your evaluations of artists on here, especially from a listening perspective, and always welcome them, there’s probably a part of me that feels a certain sensibility that champions an “Us and Them” over a “Pure” is too skewed, from my own p.o.v., to take entirely seriously.

I don’t think I often realize to what extent you refuse to countenance opinions with which you differ.

Hopefully one day our forensic debates will segue into a conversation proper before they are sadly derailed into silly combative take-no-prisoners discourse.

Stop trying to make me feel guilty and mind-shag me with your intellectual ranting Jizzim! I’ve almost had enough!

Pure is Godflesh’s weakest offering. The sooner you realise this the sooner i’ll be your wee pal again.

Oh yeah and until you admit Dubstep rules i’m not ever making you cottage pie again!

Now what the hell was this thread about again???

Oh yeah that’s right…

The B-Side of Brian Eno’s “Before And After Science”.

Side 2 of Current 93 “live at bar maldoror”
The conet Project
Whitehouse “erector”
Throbbing Gristle live at the Nuffield Theatre 1977

I’m unemployed at the moment so I do alot of soul searching in the small hours plus I have a small court case drama in my life going on right now which, while only fairly minor-ish (gulp!), is starting to play havoc with my nerves.

So I do my fair share of late night listening. Just spent a small fortune on a big cd/vinyl buy up…most of which I will be listening to very late…(ie 12am - 3am).

I bought:

Sunn O))) - Grimmrobe demos (japanese version with gatefold cd booklet and bonus live disc)
Sunn O))) - Double O Void (japanese version…with a Nurse With Wound remix on it)
Sunn O))) - White 2 (japanese version…)
Jesu - Pale Sketches (on ebay)
Whitehouse - Total Sex (vinyl reisuue…looks amazing)
Sutcliffe Jugend - The Fall Of Nature
Faust/Nurse With Wound - Disconnected
Acid Mothers - Recurring Dream And Apocalypse Of Darkness (vinyl…looks amazing)

All up a $350 splurge…not bad. the most I’ve ever spent at one time is $610 on records.

Will be listening to all of these in the dead of night to be sure!!

Good GOD, yes. Great to focus on while riding out a bad trip, for sure.

Lots of great stuff listed here so far, so I’ll add my little list. I tend to like ambient, droney music late at night especially as background noise while I paint.

Severed Heads - Clifford Darling… Please Don’t Live in the Past (a nice balance between the noisy loop based stuff, live bits, and mutant pop)
Controlled Bleeding - Songs From the Scourging Ground
Cocteau Twins - The Pink Opaque
Asmorod - A Faint Light Below
SPK - Leichenschrei
Kerovnian - Up From the Depths of Haron (actually this is the only album that makes me look over my shoulder while listening to it with headphones, its rather eerie)
Shinjuku Thief - Sacred Fury
Tones on Tail - Night Music
Robert Rich & Lustmord - Stalker
Phil Western - World’s End
Parker and Lily - The Low Lows (if ever a band was tailor made to be the house band in a David Lynch film its this one)
The Church - Priest = Aura
Severed Heads - The Illustrated Family Doctor OST

Wow, nice choices CM. Now I want to get a copy of “Clifford Darling” - I haven’t heard it for many years.

Tom has it as a double cd (which is nice so I don’t have to break out the vinyl anymore) and most of the Sevs catalogue at his website www.Sevcom.com. His prices are pretty good including shipping, and its nice putting money right into the artist’s pockets. Although Severed Heads is officially dead now after 29 years, there is a new 5 disc vinyl boxset out now covering the early noise period.

Severed Heads - The Illustrated Family Doctor OST

This one’s in rotation on the mp3 player for ‘going to sleep’ music. Great ambient CD. Kinda bummed the Sevs are dead, but Tom definitely left behind a goldmine of a catalogue.

1002

I’ll echo some of Peligro’s initial choices, and add one of my own:

Nico - Desertshore
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Vol. II
and
Jandek - Chair Beside a Window
