DCD is great, I think I have pretty much everything they released, including a 7-CD bootleg titled “Unreleased and Rare, Vol. I-VII”. I have some Gerrard stuff, too, which is pretty cool, but I have to be in the mood.
Into The Labryinth is definitely one of their best, probably my second favorite. The debut album, in my opinion, is one of the best goth albums ever released. I listen to that one more than anything else in their discography.
The one thing about DCD was I always loved Lisa Gerrard’s voice but could never stand Brendan Perry’s. So many songs of theirs have been ruined by that guy bellowing halfway into the song. I went through their albums and deleted just about every song with his voice. Ah! Much better! Saves me the effort of skipping songs.
I also think they were better before they went into their indigenous music stage towards the end. Stick to your cracker roots guys.
Good stuff though. Gerard’s voice gives me the shivers.
My brother was huge into DCD, so I heard a lot of them growing up. The only album that really did it for me was “Aion”. I liked that album a lot and the Bosch cover suited it perfectly.
I’ve always wondered what the debut album sounded like. I’ve heard that it’s much more goth oriented (and I really like late 70’s/early 80’s goth stuff), but I’ve also read that they were unhappy with it. Is there anything you can compare it with 1002?
