Darkside on Vinyl

I just picked up DSOTS on vinyl today at Amoeba. I remember seeing a thread on here about it coming out but don’t remember seeing a release date just a “coming soon.” So, it’s apparently out now. I can’t bring myself to open it. But Damn I was stoked to find it. I picked up the limited 12 inch singles vinyl also and a smattering of Ozzy’s back catalogue. I’ve been stuck on No Rest for the Wicked, lately So I picked up Diary of a Madman, Bark at the Moon, and Speak of the Devil. I’ve been thoroughly enjoying Miracle Man and want some more old school Ozzy. 3 Ozzy cds for 15 bucks… Deal!!
Picked up Megadeth’s Risk for 3 bucks. hope it’s alright.
They had a bunch of Metallica Singles and interview discs. one had Hettfield with his cock out for the cover of one of the interview discs and Marilyn Manson had a few rare singles. I was going to get the Fight Single but they wanted 25 bucks for it but there are only 3 songs on it and I already had a high price total with the two Ministry vinyls so I passed on it. There was another MM single there called We’re From America but they wanted 12 bucks for it. again, too steep for my already ballooned bill.
Great day for Amoeba.

Nice scores!

I picked up a copy of Dark Side on ebay. They did a good job with it, it’s nicely mastered for vinyl.

That just leaves Animositisomina and Houses of the Mole, it would be nice to have those on vinyl someday. I’ve been eyeballing Cleo’s re-issue of Beers, Steers & Queers for a while, I might pick that one up sometime too.

As for Marilyn Manson, it seems there is wide assortment of nifty singles, but so far I’ve only picked up the re-issues of Antichrist Superstar and Mechanical Animals. I really want Portrait of an American Family, but I’ve only seen the uber expsenive editions that come with the t-shirt.

Are the MM reissues remastered as well or just reissued? I hadnt heard he was remastering anything. I wouldnt mind a remastered of mechanical, not that there is anything wrong with the original issue but i wouldnt mind hearing another take.
Is there anything special in with the dark side vinyl? Lyric sheet? New write up on the band? Anything?

I’ve only ever had those Manson albums on CD prior, so I’m not 100% on how the re-issues sound to the original vinyl releases. They both sound good on vinyl though.

Dark Side has a one page insert with the album credits, but no lyrics.

I’ve successfully forgotten like twice in a row that this happened. How does the album art look blown up in twelve glorious inches?

I kinda wanna snag it but fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck I’ve bought too much music lately. [:P]

You overpaid for Risk

You overpaid for Risk

Even at 3.99 i can say you are correct, sir. Spun it today on the way to work. Sounds like a pop album no thrash at all.

I forgot to mention-

Linda Summertime (the hidden track on the CD) isn’t on the vinyl.

If you need to find a silver lining on that dark cloud . . . . at least you didn’t buy “Super Collider”.

That’s good. I remember that track really annoying me when the album first came out. I’m not sure why exactly, ha.

It is incredibly annoying! It’s definitely one of those hidden tracks that’s not worth waiting to the end of the album for.

Totally annoying and all too common in the so-called Industrial scene of music.

Pigface: “Wrong fucking century darling” [repeat 200x]
Revolting Cocks: “TAAAAALLLLLKKK!!!” [repeat 200x]
Ministry: “Summertime Summertime summer summer blah blah blah.”

They think they’re so edgy putting some cryptic looped or random bullshit at the end of a CD and to make things worse, they’ll stash it in there as track 666 so it has to first scross through 655 dead tracks to get to it.

What does that mean? Well, it means that if you’re listening to the album on your stereo and you think you’re done, 15 minutes later it just starts screaming with some annoying retarded kid warbling about summertine.

Danzig did similar garbage with some of his discs (IV, at least, that I recall). It’s so stupid.

Haha, yeah. I almost forgot what it was like to have a CD keep playing after the album “finished” and then be startled by some bullshit a bit later. Maybe this should be a separate thread “albums with bullshit secret tracks” Were there ever any good ones?

The worst is when you pass out during the 15 minutes that it takes for the stupid hidden track to come on and then when it does eventually blare out of your speakers you shit your pants from being startled to death…

Nine Inch Nails’s Broken is a good one. The two hidden tracks are better than most of the disc.

Very true. That’s actually the only one I could think of so far.

On the subject of DSOTS, I was doing some homework about the album, and the Wikipedia page states that during the initial release, Kmart refused to stock it and the artwork was airbrushed. I’ve seen like maybe seven copies in the wild and have purchased two, and have never seen any of the “censored” versions. One (used) copy I did buy simply had the insert folded as to display the panel that reads “THE DARK SIDE OF THE SPOON” overlayed on a closeup of the nude model.

Google yields nothing either. I don’t know why, but I really want to see/own a copy with the airbrushed artwork. Like, HOW do you even censor that. Is the artwork just the vague outlines of a chalkboard with a clumsy green-black blob in the middle of it or what.

Any prongers have a copy?

Wasn’t there a different version of No W or something at the end of Houses of the Molé? It was good too.

That is EXACTLY how I found the last Ministry “Summertime” track and it was a most unpleasant experience indeed.

You know, I have never come across a copy of it either. I have seen copies of The Last Sucker and Rio Grande Blood with the inside of the digipak folded over the images of Bush. I guess some record shops don’t want any sort of political affiliation.
