dark spoon(again) six years later

man i happened to pick this up again yesterday and like filth pig it sounds even better with age it actualy is sim. the darkest and funiest ministry record and compared to most newer releses like 'houses… or 'with teeth it sound layred and exparmental as hell after not listing to it for so long kinda like the way last rights hit me in '92 when i was twelve and nver heard anything like that i suggest everyone else whip it and give it a listen since as far as mijistry goes it’s all been houses and ani…it hit you kinda weird oh well what do you guy’s think?..[;)]

heh. There has to be one every 6 months minimum…

I never quit listening to Dark Side. It’s one of my favorite albums by Ministry. While not as great and/or revolutionary as some of the others (like IMO Filth Pig and Mind and Twitch) it is by far one of their most experimental and lyrically comedic albums. It’s almost (IMO only) what would happen if you put RevCo lyrics with Ministry’s music. It’s a great album altogether. There are only like MAYBE one or two tracks off of it that I truly don’t care for (one of those not even being a song… Linda Summertime… bleh… what kind of a hidden track is that???)…

Peace!

how many times can it be said, Dark Side is a class album

Dark Side has moments of brilliance, “Nursing Home” being the pinnacle IMO, but the lo-fi aesthetic that runs through most of it renders it unlistenable to some degree for me at least.

I prefer Animositisomina because it retained some of that experimental direction of Dark Side, but still sounded glossy production-wise.

Definately a strange album lyrically though, so dreary and bizarre. Too bad most of the music is sub-par. I look to Filth Pig for the slow rock side and LORAH/Twitch for the experimentation.

with teeth is a ministry album?

No, but it’s a recent release. Read Closer.

Hey, whaddya know, another DSOTS thread! Nothing’s changed for me - it’s still my least-favorite Ministry album. It’s great that they tried to experiment, but ye still gotta have some good songs in the end. Aside from the first three songs and Kaif, the rest is just uninteresting and forgettable. Of course, I hardly listen to it, so there you go.

Dark Side Of Of The Spoon is the freaking shiznite. Twas the first Ministry album I bought, and its a definite classic. Every song (except that crap Linda Summertime song) was a crusty, resin-charred, piece of gold. Speaking of heroin use, I tried it for the first time last night, it was interesting, but I think Im going to stick with my marijuana. Lol anyways, I loved the fact the Paul Barkers brilliance of distortion and layering came into play a lot more heavily on a Ministry album even more so than Filth Pig. Im probably going to get message board rocks thrown at me for saying this but its probably my second-favorite album and Im tired of waiting for Mr.Barkers new shite. Peace my fellow Ministry-l0vers… [:)]

aside from a few tracks (step, supermanic soul, bad blood) this album really hits the spot for me. it’s one of those mood albums for me. i listen to it quite a bit.

Heh, those are the tracks I like.
Well, not so much “Step”…

I hated it 6 years ago…and 6 years later, I still hate it.

Probably one of the worst CDs I own.

shocking! simply shocking! if you dont like it thats a matter of taste but how could it be probably one of the worst cd’s you own. everyone has some embarrasing numbers in their cd collection but i struggle to accept that dark side could one of your worst.

Linda Summertime isn’t that bad considering if you pay attention at some point in time either Al or Paul, I’m not quite sure who, says “Murder the slut. Murder the Slut.” I’ve mentioned it once before but no one seemed to know what was I talking about.

Every time this thread starts up, I blow off the dust on my copy and give it a listen. I keep thinking I MUST be missing something. But I still don’t get it!
Supermanic Soul and Step are quite good. Songs like Nursing Home and Linda Summertime are ok, if only for their experimental qualities (or humour…)

But I must admit, this listen through it wasn’t as bad as I remember it. Still is their weakest effort though.

I know that feeling all too well. My wife has mixed her cds to my collection. My friends come over and constantly make fun of me. stuff like ‘ministry…skinny puppy…pantera…toni braxton…usher…superjoint ritual…brian mcknight’
It’s HORRIBLE!

Yeah, if it hasn’t hooked you by now, it never will. I think the most I ever enjoyed DSOTS was the first two or three listens, but after that, liked it less and less. I remember the first time I played it, I thought “This is already better than Filth Pig”, but after multiple listens my opinion changed.

hmmmm some of you goy’s think the production was better on animos…really i think dark side has better drums than like that paper plate shit someone metioned ages ago on animos… and to me it sound crisper but i guess it really is more of a mood record and in that l. sumertime song/crank call i think if you pan one of your speakers completly left or right (can’t remeber) you hear less of her and more from the ministry side of the phone call and you can hear them laughing and al singing along but i’ll have to listen for that ‘kill the slut’ part also i rember posting something ages ago about why has’nt foetus and ministry colab. and lo and behold he (thirlwell) is all over the thank you credits maybe he had a finger or too in dsots and one more thing on this…where the fuck is the version they scrapped? where are those songs that would be cool in the song of the week thing though i have’nt been able to actually hear song’s from this site in months
