Need to address Kill face properly.
I was unemployed for 6 months in 2009. Because I was a contractor I could not draw unemployment. I made my way during that time waiting tables and substitute teaching.
That is not unemployed that is “a substitute teacher” and “waiting tables.”
Just for reference substitute teaching is not always a guaranteed gig anymore. My wife’s district won’t hire any subs because they have enough teachers that have been laid off that it more than fills the sub lists.
Also Tax Money paid your salary while you were subbing, Taxes were good enough for you then. When the rich stated getting their tax break how come the economy started to suffer? Teaching is recession proof “they” used to say. “They” didn’t count on this level of greed.
Good luck trying to find a waiting tables job now.
In June, I began to promote and push my skills as a contractor for my own business. I was successful and made 6 figures in 2010.
Congratulations, but just because you made it into the buffet doesn’t mean you need to continue to eat after you’re full just so others may starve cause you’ve “earned it”
My family is not wealthy, closer to poor. I grew up dirt poor. My dad worked at Burger Street and my mother did not work. I got a partial scholarship to college for kids whose parents made a combined income of less than $35,000. That scholarship only covered tuition and not books, room and board, food…For those expenses I worked at Red Lobster to make ends meet between hitting the books.
Wish I could get a waiting tables job… I’d love to take a second job but I don’t need it, so I’m not going to take money out of the pocket out of some who needs that job more… but more so when I did need that job guess who wasn’t hiring?
Now that I’ve been successful on my own after years of hard work, the taxes I will have to pay for 2010 because of self employment tax and other bs programs that will never benefit me or my family, will barely afford me any money to pay down my student loan, car, home, and credit card debt.
Consider yourself lucky, years of hard work rarely pays off because someone is right there to exploit you.
But they did benefit your family, how can you not see that? If it was up to someone like the person you appear to be now, there would have been no scholarship money, there would have been no substitute teacher money for a district to be able to hire you.
If you make more than 250,000.00, which has a tax of 34% 85,000, which means you net 165,000 which is 13,750 a month take home, you’re not starving. No where close. You say you make 6 figures, let’s just put it at 100,000 which means you are taxed at 28% which means you take home 72,000, (most people don’t even gross that in 2 years. Let alone take it home)which is 6,000 a month. and you wanna plead hardship for $6000 a month take home?
Student loans are 300 a month, tops, car with insurance is roughly $500 on the high side, credit card payments (I don’t carry a balance so I can’t say for sure but my buddy had a 17,000 balance to American express owed 171 dollars a month) Is 200 a month. So not counting a house you are looking at 1,000 dollars for bills maybe what 5-600 on food and maintance…
So you’re looking at 3,500 left over for a house payment and work supplies… and you can’t cut it? Sounds like your living above your means if that’s not enough. Which is what seems to be what you are accusing the less fortunate of doing. Only it’s a lot easier to live above your means when you don’t make 6 Gs a month.
not only that, as long as you don’t go over 250,000 a year your tax bracket would stay at 28%.which is still a ton of cash hell it’s still a ton of cash even after 250,000 and the higher bracket
Now, if things keep going like they are, I will be wealthy at some point in the future. Because I have worked hard, studied and took chances instead of holding my hand out for government money, I deserve to be taxed so hard that it’s tough to get out of debt.
You do not get to be wealthy just because you work hard!!! Jesus, I’m sick of hearing that tired old mantra. My buddies mom did 25 years at burger King she worked harder than you ever will, harder than I ever will, harder than any pin head ceo ever will. She is nowhere near wealthy how ‘bout that shit? She had no chances, nor the opportunities that you did.
And the hell you didn’t have your hand out for government money. you took a scholarship and subbed. You can polish it all you want but it’s still a turd. by todays standards you started out socialist.
So you took chances that panned out… good for you. is that luck or is that hard work? I’m leaning towards luck. I’d like to point out it’s a good thing you had that opportunity to take those chances.
How is that fair to me?
Because it’s a privilege to give back to the country that afforded you the opportunity carve your path. You’re not an America hater are you? How about because you know what it’s like to suffer and wouldn’t want anyone else to go through that shit too.
Damn it, Obama.
Damn it indeed
Wow. It’s hard for you to not come off as a dick isn’t it?
I prefer to call it blunt.
If that scholarship program IS cut, it’ll be because politicians are too busy voting to give themselves more money, loading bills with earmarks, and flying in government funded private jets. Not because the rich are undertaxed.
The last politicians to vote themselves a raise were the republican congress in '04 or '05 when they gave themselves a raise but refused to raise the minimum wage, until they were bullied into it… once again a case of the wealthy giving themselves more while everyone else takes less. BTW I’m sure you’re wondering so
The ear marks leaders:
Senator Thad Cochran a REPUB out of Mississippi- 242 earmarks for a total of $497,591,000
next closest senator:
Daniel Inouye a DEM from Hawaii 158 earmarks for a total of $392,432,850
almost 100 earmarks less and $105,000,000 less
How about Representatives I hear you ask?
Bill Young a REPUB from Florida 63 earmarks for a total of $128,573,000.
Next closest:
Earl Pomeroy a DEM from North Dakota with 48 earmarks for a total of $121,740,350.
15 ear marks less and damn near 7 Million LESS.
So in both houses it’s Repubs who lead the way in fucking shit up
Do you really think the gov. does a good job with the tax dollars they already get? If yes, then you’re an idiot. If no, then why should ANYONE have to pay more?
absolutely not (cause it’s clearly not enough, Clinton did fine with his Tax dollars at 39% but that leveled the playing field too much for Repubs) but I’ll take governments incompetence over a company’s greed any day. At least the government is responsible to its citizens and can be removed. Who is an exec accountable to? When was the last time you got to vote out an exec that was corrupted?
By not taxing the wealthy you are giving them an extraordinary advantage over everyone else, thereby creating a divide so great it becomes impossible to overcome.
By not taxing the rich you are basically begging the rich for scraps at the table. People become desperate and then are in a land that lends themselves to exploitation and despite what Peligro thinks, Exploitation is NOT a good.
No taxes/lower taxes for the wealthy is akin to forcing the trickledown theory upon the nation which, has proven time and time again that it doesn’t work. You essentially wait for some rich fucker to throw you an allowance. Trickle down DOES NOT WORK. If workers set their own wages it would but they don’t so it can’t.
You can see that it doesn’t work in Wal mart towns. Wal Mart trickles down a little bit of money to the town. Where the town, in turn, runs right back to wal mart to buy their basic needs. How is that prosperous? Where is the ability to “make it?” There isn’t one because Wal Mart has you buy the balls and they suck all of the towns money back into it’s store.
Why aren’t you on here screaming about making our tax dollars more efficient?
I do. but I wouldn’t say I’m screaming. You make it sound as if the rich are so put upon when they are in fact not. They are taxed at 34% Obama proposed going back to 39% where they were under Clinton, for those that make over 250,000 Gs. oh my god 5 percent increase you’d think it was 50% Shit, they COULD tax 250,000 at 50 percent and you still ain’t starving. The greed needs to stop.
We’ve all been paying social security and who here will see a dime of that?
Again, the wealthy are to blame with this. Let’s look at Ford. Ford lays off 5,000 employees another 2500 retire last year.
5000 laid off, 2500 retired and now ford has cut their bills by 7500 salaries. NOW with the 5000 let go and the 2500 that are retired that they will not replace. That’s 7500 people that do NOT have jobs. That’s 7500 positions that are now NOT paying into social security. How do you expect social security to survive when the jobs that pay into it are no longer there because the rich are feeding their bottom line?
I don’t think I should have to pay more than 1/3rd of every cent I make to the government on top of 8% of every purchase I make.
8% of every purchase is the State tax and the income tax is the fed. They are different. And your thoughts still create and unfair advantage for the already wealthy.
You want a flat/low tax for the “Job providers” I’m sure you could find one… Jordan, Iraq… How are those societies doing?
I guess I’m just selfish.
I would call it misinformed. perhaps selfish But I like to be optimistic
Peligro
With the current financial crisis in the US I’d say right now there’s a whole lot of kids going through what you went through.
Doubtful because the scholarship programs are going bye and you have to compete with some person trying to feed his family for a fast food job let alone a restaurant job that pays tips.
When I was very young I was well provided more and can’t say I tasted the sting of real poverty. It must be bad when everyone around seems to be doing well and you’re constantly missing out. In a way I though, I think it’s character building. You’ll appreciate it more when times are good.
Considering the tent cities that are popping up around L.A. and the rest of the country there is bound to be a lot of happy people when they get a job… right? Prolly not though, who wants to hire a dirty bum?
Were there ever times when your parents had no money for food? Did their marriage survive ok?
That’s where we are now as a country. An it’s not cause people are lazy it’s because no one is hiring and no banks are lending for business loans.
We started out very well off but then, in about 1986, my dad changed jobs and started a new career from scratch, so he was earning virtually nothing - and he had 4 kids and a wife to provide for. We went from living in a really beautiful home with a pool and acreage to living in a virtual shack. I’ve no idea how we survived those years. But we did. My mum just about had a nervous breakdown.
Because your dad’s irresponsible gamble paid off is not testament to his work ethic. He could’ve worked just as hard and still failed miserably. And it’s not right that you look down on those that don’t have the luck that your dad had as if they’re lazy.
That sucks. Really sucks. I’d hate to make alot of money and have nothing to show for it.
Welcome to America pal. Many of our hardest workers don’t have shit to show for it.
Although Killface isn’t in that boat he has at least 6 grand a month to show for it.
I’m in a fortunate position in that I have alot of disposable income right now. Without being too specific I’d say I’d have close to 100 grand in cash that I’m unsure what to do with.
What a happy problem.
I’d have maybe 10 grand worth of debt tops and most of that I owe to my parents. I’d like to buy a factory and rent it out but I’ve been told the market is seriously close to a major downturn. The real estate bubble here has been too big for too long and could pop at any time.
So, in essence, you don’t take money from the government because you have BANK OF PARENTS to withdraw and borrow from.
How is that any different than those that don’t have the roots that you do?
Just wondering, are your Parents going to send a creditor after you if you don’t pay up on time? You gonna get your deposit back after you move out? Did you have to come up with a deposit? Did they run your credit?
I don’t mind living at home but it has its drawbacks. Hard to take a girl home on a first date when yr mum and dad are there.
Shit for a 100 Gs you can rent one that doesn’t give a shit where you live. Here in the US you probably wouldn’t have to look very hard to find one that has been kicked off unemployment and now has had to resort to prostitution. probably get her at a bargain too!
It’s hardly romantic. Plus my dad’s a diabetic and is losing his eyesight and has to be driven everywhere and my mum is recovering from cancer so they more or less need me to do alot for them. Don’t get as much private time as I’d like. But thems the breaks.
Just wondering. do they have private insurance or are they on the public system or is their medical covered in their retirement?
Damn it Gillard!
Thought you didn’t like that guy to begin with?
Late,
