Some of Bobby McFerrin’s covers are totally mind-blowing. They’re that pure vocal/ body noise (no instruments) and just insane.

“Suzy Q” and “Sunshine of Your Love” leave me speechless.

Concrete Blonde - Everybody Knows (Leonard Cohen)

Ooooh man how did I forget this?! Cohen’s studio version is damn near genius and concrete’s studio is just ok BUT the perfection of Concrete Blonde’s cover comes in the form of 120 minutes live version with their acoustic rendition. It’s fuckin’ brilliant!!! Good call.

For me, a lot of it depends on which version I’ve heard first. If I already know the original when I hear the cover it will be very hard to top it.

I completely agree which I why I think these covers are so special.

I thought this was supposed to be covers that are better than the original! Lots of these are fucking awful covers, especially Metallica’s cover of Whiskey in the Jar. Although Thin Lizzy’s was a cover anyway, Metallica’s version is totally cringeworthy, and i love Metallica. And Apocalyptica, as fun as they may be for a few minutes at a time, definitely didn’t make One better than the original.

Apocalyptica’s cover of One is way heavier than Metallica have ever played that song. The guitars and James’ voice can’t match the heaviness of the cello. It’s science fact. Now, as far as you and your tone are concerned, one more outburst like that and you are banished from my thread. Dismissed [pirate]

All of Greg Dulli’s(Afghan Whigs,Twilight Singers) covers I enjoy more than the originals…

I was never a fan of seals and croft so any cover of their songs are likely to be better. However, that being said summer breeze may as well be their own song since they kicked so much ass with it.

I love the Apocalyptica Metallica covers, though I certainly don’t think they are better than the originals.

I’m glad Eureka mentioned “Diamonds and Rust” by Judas Priest. So good.

Also, Priest’s cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Green Manalishi”.

I’ll put Priest’ “Better by You,Better by Me” in there too…better than the Spooky Tooth version
