Anyone listened to Chris Connelly’s solo work? I recently acquired a copy of “Whiplash Boychild” and I really dig it.
Seriously.
“Stowaway” has become an anthem of mine.
Amazing.
I completely agree. Wait until you pick up Phenobarb. To me, this is where Connelley hit his peek. It was lounge music with an edge.
After that, he really seemed to struggle to find any consistency.
The first two albums (Whiplash and Phenobarb) are absolute gems. The third (Shipwreck) has some pretty decent stuff on it as well. Since then, most of his solo stuff’s been decent but not amazing.
You might also try out Hyperhead. No Connelly but several of the PIgface crew doing loungy stuff with Mary Byker doing vocals. Great stuff and there’s even a cover of Ignition Times 4.
Most excellent, ladies and/or gents. I shall investigate. Thaks much.
Hyperhead…Great CD…Ep’s all great too. Also have Gaye Bikers on Acid with Mary Mary…to throw a curve. [tongue]
Shipwreck was decent. Chris certainly tried to go commercial with that album. Some of it works, some of it doesn’t.
To be honest, once Chris stopped working with former members of Ministry/Revco, his albums dropped off.
Groovy.
Couple of good tunes on Phenobarb “Ignition Times Four” and “Dirtbox Tennessee” (cool drums). Chris is a bit hit-and-miss for me, but I still like him in general. The first two are definitely his best. Sometimes he sounds so much like Bowie, it’s scary.
1002
I saw Chris (and met him) with William Tucker at the limelight in NYC…It was a really good show.
I enjoy:
Candyman Collapse
Stowaway
July
Come Down Here
Righteous.
“This Edge of Midnight” kicks ass, as well.
Shouldn’t his new one be out by now?
Shouldn’t his new one be out by now?
yeah, it’s been out for a while. Been curious to hear it as it is on Current 93’s label, but been to lazy to actually get it.
